I promised @thetiredstuff I would make a fic rec post with AU fics that I really like, so thit is what this list is about :)

Disclaimer: I usually read a lot of strangers to lovers or enemies to lovers, with a few established relationships sprinkled in; friends to lovers not that much but it does happen. My favorite tropes are misunderstandings, secrets, or secret identity, curses, and anything that can lead to complications and Dean and Cas being idiots. Summary:

Dean and Cas take out a vamp nest on a hunt that almost goes all wrong when Dean is injured. Cas lets Dean take his grace to heal him, and they spend the next couple of days getting closer than ever before. 

Excerpt:

In the shadow of a broken statue of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Castiel tastes the whiskey on Dean Winchester’s tongue. Underneath the glare of moonlight spilling through a cracked stained-glass Virgin Mary, Castiel’s fingers find Dean’s mouth, run along Dean’s teeth. And in this place, where so many used to beg God for forgiveness for their sins, Castiel wants nothing more than to be condemned.

“Should we have checked into some other motel, or something?” Castiel says, watching Dean’s bottom lip become wet with saliva as he moves his fingertip over it.

“No.” Dean drops the empty bottle still in his hand onto the ground. “I’m tired of motels. Tired of sleeping in some bed that belongs to no one. Tired of listening to other people’s conversations, other people fucking, through walls. You know. It’s quiet here. No one getting railed by their husband’s best friend or something like that.”

Hours ago, after the middle-of-the-road blow job Dean had given Castiel, they had found this place, at the end of some highway at the end of some town. Dean had texted Sam, told Sam they needed one more night for this hunt, to take out the entire vamp nest. And Sam had responded with 'Sure Dean', and Dean knows Sam knows he’s just lying, but it doesn’t matter anymore.

Hours ago, in the sunset, as he picked the lock on the door of this long-neglected world, Dean had asked Castiel if all of this was okay, if this is what he really wanted, if he wanted to stop all of this before it went any further. And Castiel had responded only by kissing the back of Dean’s neck and breaking the metal reinforcement above the splintered keyhole.

They’d shared a bottle of bourbon that Dean had in the trunk of the Impala, and now Dean is maybe drunk and Castiel is maybe buzzed, and they’re both trying to pretend that what they’re going to do here, in this empty sanctuary, isn’t inevitable, hasn’t been inevitable for years. They’re both trying to pretend that they didn’t find this place, pick this place, because there’s no better place for Castiel to fall than in a discarded house of God.

“You want drama? You want a story? I won’t give you Isaac and Abraham. You can’t have Cain and Abel. But—” Cas’s voice drops. “I can do betrayal. I can be Delilah.”

Chuck blinks, then cocks his brow. “Oh?” He smiles cruelly, spreading his arms out in mock-grandeur. “And where is your Samson, Cas? How will you cut his hair?” 

Cas swallows. He knows, he knows this is wrong, but it’s the only way. Yes, it’s a betrayal—a violation of the worst kind, unforgivable, even, and yet—still necessary. Still the only course of action to ensure both Jack’s safety and the Winchesters’ happiness. 

We were a family, and I didn’t want to lose that, so I thought I could fix it on my own.

This is Cas’s chance to finally fix it, for good this time.
