I AM ME : Part 1

When it comes to writing i've always made it personal, but with this particular monologue I have written and performed , it really comes straight from the hart, I feel like this was my way of getting my herd and making a ripple of change in the water

What is my monologue about

My monologue is called “I am me”, the topic that circles my monologue is discrimination, “I am me” is about a young girl called Ciera who works in a police station, she is trying to be a good police woman but her boss is giving her a hard time and treating her different from other staff members, her boss doesn't trust that she is capable of being a detective due to the fact she has Disabilities and thinks it will get in her way.

within the scene of the monologue you see Ciera entering the office on her day off and sits down on the chear, She begins to talk about discrimination as she knows she's not going to be given the opportunity of working as a detective do to her bosses opinion on her disabilities , threw out the monologue Ciera talks about how different people treat her from others and that her disabilities do not define her, towards the end she mentions that if her boss wants things done right and to do right then he must stand by her side and not against her, the monalog ends with her leavivg the office.

Notorious wednesday

Every wednesday I tend a lecture and with that lecture we discuss different topics each week, such as women's Representation and roles in performance, majority of the topics we discussed we go off and find images or some form of art and performance that represents our view on each topic, for the Women's representation I picked a comic book character, yes I know a comic book character isn't a real woman but the comic book world is something I grew up on, I picked Captain Marvel, she was the first ever woman that I read in a comic book that was so powerful the most powerful person within the Marvel Franchise and up until that point there was only powerful men so that made quite an impact for me. I soon realized that I have very passionate views on the world thanks to the e Wednesday lesson with the debate on Political and non-political topics , this defneatly helped Debate my own subject that I have picked for my monalog which is discrimination, we have not done this topic in detail withing with in lechurs especially discrimanachon thwords disabilities.

The Wednesday's lessons also helped with in crating more details for characters, during one part of the lesson we got given an opportunity to create any character we wanted, I decided to create a character call Bradley who is a bear, then we was given a task to join a FaceTime call dressed as our character, within this we also had to give information about our characters in any format we liked and I decided to make a dating profile for my character Bradley . This has definitely helped me towards creating a character for my monologue “I am me” with the subject of discrimination.

Why did I pick Discrimination

I was given the opportunity to write a monologue on any topic I liked, I knew what topic I wanted to do which was discrimination but it was also scary due to the fact discrimination is a wide subject and and I cannot speak on the behalf of people that get discriminated on there skin coiler, sexuality and so on, I try to keep my monologue close to discrimination on disabilities as I can relate to that and I do reference discrimination on other subjects but I don't go into detail as I have not experienced that for myself.

I'm very passionate when it comes to my disabilities as for a very long time I was made to feel ashamed of them from other people's opinions and I was told that people like me won't make it far and I have been really put down into the dirt about it so when I was given an opportunity to To represent people like me I jump straight to it. being discriminated against of having disabilities is very exhausting, not all of my opinion is in this monologue because I don't want to overwhelm people but I did want to get a point across not just with me but with other people who I also have experienced hate and discrimination.

I want to change negative views towards Things that aren't perfect to do to society, I'm hoping that my monologue and my performance will get people listening to what I'm saying and hopefully understand what some people have to go through, I have realised no matter what you do no matter who you are you are put in a category. It's really 2 to fit in in Society and I would say it's even harder when you have something about you that people don't class as normal

Overall I picked this topic because I am passionate about my disabilities and that I want to enspier popele to embrasses themslfs and have otheres understand their differences.

Filming and set

Planing

I was set in my ways for what topic I wanted to write about and I had a creative and brilliant idea on how I wanted to film my monologue, i had many voilier actors who were willing to film at home as my idea was to have the label you believe the defines you on your head, then have the negative and decriminashon comments on your body, at the end of my monologue I wanted the actors to wipe off the negative comments on there body and keep the label. Unfortunately I couldn't run with this idea as many of my actors pulled out.

For my second plan, I had one of my friends come in and pretend to be my brother, I really hated this idea, this then led me on to plan three where I had my charter sitting on a chair in front of blank wall, and directly talking to the camera

Why did I chose this way to film -

After my first 2 ideas and having them fail , I came to the idea that I really want people to here what i'm saying, to really listen, therefore I decided to have a blank wall so that there is nothing desrating you from my character, my character is looking directly at the camera so its more impactful as if she's talking to you specifically, I wanted my audience to feel like they were in the scene, that they where the boss who discriminated here.

Character building

Stanislavski Technique -

I thoroughly enjoy using the Stanislavski method when I am creating a detailed and realistic background for my characters, this gives opportunities for people to relate and connect with my characters more. The method comes from a Rssian man called Stanislavski, heans the name, who is a director and practitioner. The method is known for helping you develop your characters with a detailed background it goes as far as creating scenarios for your characters and know what exactly what they would do in that situation, that alone is called the “Magic If”

The 5 W’s -

The 5 W’S is another version of the Stanislavski technique. It means Who, What, Where, When and Why. This gives you plenty of scenarios and multiple ways of asking each of the 5Ws. For a perfect example of one of the W’s would be “where am I” “where am I going” “where do I live” and so on. here are my 5 W’s I have chosen to develop my character

Why am I there: I am there because I have come in on my day off to confront my boss about discriminating me and not allowing me to become a detective due to my disabilities

Final thoughts

If I was able to perform this again without covid I would definitely go with my first filming idea, as felt it was my stronges, if I had the actors for it. With my final filming, I felt like I could have pushed myself more in my acting abilities, it was rushed, I could of left longer pusses to let people really soak up the words I was saying. With the writing itself I'm proud of how I worded things as I'm new to the writing scene, I really feel I got my point across without bombarding people.
