now that we’ve got a bit of grass, sheep grazing can begin! here you see two cranberry bogs (the dark red vegetation… the vines are still dormant) surrounded by water filled ditches (the water is very iron rich as you can see by the brown color lol) and green grass on the shoulders of the ditches and access roads. one thing I didn’t appreciate about farming before starting is that you do have to mow/weed ALL of the farm… because where do you think the stuff in the crop fields is coming from? this small flock of sheep has a much easier time in the steep banks than I do with a mower, and they (like pretty much every other animal except for certain bugs) think cranberry vines are nasty, so they are here to live out their retirements walking around socializing and eating.
dapple doggie is still on a harness and drag line around the sheep because she still has a lot of puppy energy and needs help navigating around them calmly from time to time. she’s been doing awesome lately though!

snake tracks leading into(?) a cranberry bog. the other side of this dirt road is a small natural pond. I’m guessing based on the size this was a rat snake or black racer which can be very large but shy so like to sun themselves on dirt roads near the water where they can swim away quickly if spotted.
#weweantica#one of my favorite kinda guys to see!!#I’m working on a rat snake tattoo that will cover most of my left leg… need to get back on that
