WRITTEN COMMENTARY (300 words or less)
I was asked to create this graphic by my school for the Overwatch team going undefeated in their 2023 season. With the theme provided to me being Overwatch I decided the best bet was just to start with a recolor of Overwatch's cover character Tracer. After establishing that I went through multiple design choices and styles until I settled on this final one with the low visibility 2023 in the background. However before I got to this point I struggled because this was my first esports related graphic I have made and to add onto that I was also having to meet the standards and time constraint my school gave me. To remedy it being my first time making an esports graphic I turned to teams that were in the Overwatch League for the graphics they have on twitter, where I noticed a common theme of words on left or center of the screen with a recolored character on the right side. Then after figuring out a baseline for the design the school's standards started to provide challenges. Just one of these being the first design I actually was happy with ended up being denied the reason being the school didn't want anything that could resemble blood even though blood was not the intention of the red paint splatters. I proceeded to go back to the drawing board and ended up filling the background with the 2023 that is seen in the final design, which the players on the Overwatch team ended up really enjoying. In the end I loved this piece not just because of the end product but because it gave me more experience in meeting the expectations of others and being able to meet time requirements provided.
