Using his cryptic powers, Arlo managed to sneak on to the ship and get the gift right to Kaspar's door. It was a sampler set of various scotch whisky and a card that said "Merry Christmas! Don't eat too many babies ;o) -Arlo"

“You’re shitting me.”

Dakota hands Kaspar a plastic grocery bag with a ketchup stained button up shirt at the bottom. He obviously forgot to get Kaspar a proper present and went into his own closet to get a shitty present at the last minute. "Uh...merry Christmas."
Kaspar looks up from his book at pulls his chair away as he rises from his sport at an innocuous wooden table. He takes the plastic bag and sets it down on the tables so that he can take a look at the contents. “Thank you very much Dakota, that’s very thoughtful of you. I didn’t get you a present. I’ll have to think of something for new years.”

Kaspar knocks on Emily’s door, adorned in pressed gym shorts and a collared workout shirt (you can find anything on amazon these days). Tucked under his arm is a basketball, bought only hours ago.
“Excuse me, Emily? Are you here?” He could never be sure. He had been told that Emily doesn’t stay on board the ship, but he sees her around with Samiri frequently enough to take the time and check.

Kaspar curses under his breath, his own ability manifesting his phantom hand. With it, he draws a suppressed Glock and aims it at the door. The rattling of rubber soles against metal stairs is unmistakable, there were gunmen on their way. That kind of response time is impressive, if only Roderich was a capable enough leader to-
He hears Arthur’s voice and peeks out over the edge of the building again to look down upon the man. Responding is likely what the man wants, to keep him here long enough for his goons to arrive and comprehend him.
Despite that, he’s angry. And thus he decides to act against his own better judgement.
“Fucking Austrian, somehow never leaves his room and still gets people sick. Maybe He should have been my target today instead of you.” He speaks just loud enough for Arthur to hear him, his free hand scooping up the rifle and slinging it over his shoulder. The fire escape will have to suffice.

Kaspar waits perfectly still, rifle braced against an outcropping of a building 4 blocks away from the mafia headquarters.
Breath in, count to five, breath out.
He slowly shifts his eye up to meet the reticle in his scope as Arthur sets foot out of the mafia building, lining up the cross-hairs on the Brit's head.
Breath in, count to five, breath out.
The seconds blur together as he waits, him having found himself in a perfect zen moment, still as a tree in a windless night...
He pulls the trigger.
and he sneezes.
Goddamit it Roderich, getting him sick. He had been bedridden for the better part of the last month because of it. He thought that his recovery had ended and he was well enough to work again. He was wrong. His shot misses.

She made her way back to her desk, pressed a button and the door to her office swung open. Ms. Nettes gave a wave as Samiri disappeared through the door. He made his way down the hall, and once the door finally closed, he paused and waited for Kaspar.
“I got a text that we will be meeting with the next person’s wife instead. They are rather similar though, so I’m not too worried just uh- don’t make her feel threatened.” He would fill him in later, but he still had the aching feeling of being watched. When Kaspar caught up, Samiri made stride down the hall, when they reached the end they were greeted by more guards. This time they were escorted through a Guard Hall, completely bypassing the prisoners. After they settle back into the helicopter, Samiri huffed.
“You did well in there, thank you for keeping calm with her. The next place we’re going to is a park.”
“Thank you. We’ll be there momentarily.” He starts up the rotors and quietly seethes as he settles into his seat. He is still profoundly perturbed by Miss Nettes, despite his best efforts.
“He sets the helicopter down atop a nearby skyscraper, the guild friendly staff promising to take especially good care of it whilst he escorts Samiri out and down.
“Need I be worried about potential threats during this...meeting?” It’s always better to check in first.

Holy shit! Holy shit!
This is so… weirdly romantic? Listen, the k-dramas she’s been watching recently showed her that rich guys who take you to a helicopter is basically amazing. And oo, nice ability there.
Tumblr media
“Not really! Someone I know recommended I do this kind of work since it fits me.. Kind of my first job doin’ this but I think I’m pretty decent so far. B0se seems fine with me beating up … uh… the big Russian dude.”
God this feels like shes talking to some disappointed high school teacher!
“Be nice if ya can show me the ropes ‘n stuff!” Wink wink.
Tumblr media
“I’m sure I will, although there is something that I would like to do first. Would you be alright with shopping before we eat? ...Call it a, congratulatory gift for joining the Guild.” He avoids looking at her, her clothing only serving to distract him as he takes off.  Also the wink. It’s always the wink that throws him off.
“Ah, Samiri also had me sabotaging Viktor. He may not have told you but I served as a temporary solution to his body-guarding needs. I may have already said it, but I’ve done this kind of thing before, so I’d be happy to get you up to speed.”
"You're Samiri's new bodyguard. That's what I hear." Kaspar gives her a once over, frowning. She doesn't dress the part. "My name is Kaspar. I'm glad that we could meet"
Tumblr media
“Mhm! B0ss personal bodyguard, out here protecting his life.” It’s called she’s not going to wear a suit everyday, that’s cliche and stupid. “Emily, nice to meet ya too! What do ya do exactly, Casper?”

His face remains stony as he takes her hand. His grip is resolute and he continues to avoid eye contact with her. Because he despises people like her. Obnoxious folk. People who don’t know their place.
“Likewise, Miss Nettes.” He offers up a quick prayer that he never has to lay eyes on her ever again.

“In my experience, each teammate doing their part and not stepping on each other’s toes helps contribute to a more cohesive whole. Also, I choose 1.” He doesn’t take his gaze away from the wall, completely ignoring her grin.
She’s clearly a mess, but he’ll let himself play her game. If nothing else, it will give Samiri a moment of respite from her.
“Why do you ask.”

“I don’t mind heading out there. Don’t need to stay on the ship for everything, we aren’t Roderich here.” Viktor let out a laugh, before stepping towards the door. “Besides trying someone new won’t hurt at all.”
“I think being compared to Roderich is the last thing I’d like to have happen to me today, thank you very much.” Kaspar runs a hand through his hair, taking a deep breath and brushing off his coat.
“Shall we?”
"You've been working quite hard lately, I think you deserve a good drink for what you've done."
Kaspar looks up from his computer, having been previously viewing surveillance footage in and around Mafia control territory. Viktor was right. All he was doing these days was work. Ever since the event, he’s been laboring day and night, trying to find everyone that was with them at the murder house. So far, he hasn’t had much luck.
“…You’re right. I do deserve a drink. Did you have something in mind?”

“Your deal doesn’t concern me. I’m here to protect Samiri, he’s here to broker the deal. There’s no benefit to me for knowing what exactly the deal entails, in fact, I think i’d prefer to not know. I’ve got plenty to focus on as is.” He answers he bluntly and quickly before shutting up again. As is usually the case, Kaspar is ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice.
Again he reorient’s his gaze to focus on the wall behind Ms. Nettes.

Samiri dare not turn his head around to see what ever expression Kaspar was making at this moment. There was clearly a reason the warden felt like picking on Kaspar instead of himself, and he had to have full faith that his colleague would react appropriately to what ever nonsense Ms. Nettes would spew. He remained as calm and collected as he could be, despite hearing the anger in Kaspar’s voice.
And unfortunately for Kaspar, Ms. Nettes was not done playing with him.
“Are you sure? You looked real grumpy with the cellmates. Suuurely, you are not trying to lie to me, are you?” She slumped her feet off her desk, and leaned forward in her chair. “In fact, the look on your face says you’re feeling rather crabby now. Are you feeling prickly today, Mister Baumer?”
“Not in the slightest.” The corner of his lip twitches, as he briefly fantasizes about doing some pretty abhorrent things to Ms. Nettes. Mashing her face against some iron bars, or killing her outright sounds pretty fucking salubrious right now.
“The inmates were being disrespectful towards Samiri. They’ll think twice about doing that when we leave.” He hastily shuts up before tacking on a rude comment about how she’s running the prison.

Samiri cracked a smile as he heard the heads smack into the bars, good to know his fellow Guild member did not put up with that fuck shit either. He waited for the door to close before responding to Kaspar’s question.
“Yes, she is. Don’t get too hung up on that or we might have to circle the whole damn jail if she gets whiff of anything she deems ‘weak.’ Unfortunately, she is doing favors for us, not the other way around. Remember that.” This was his way of saying to Kaspar to cool his jets.
He walked down the hallway and eventually reached the door that had ‘Warden’ painted on the front in curly lettering. Samiri pressed the buzzer on the intercom and waited to hear the sickly sweet voice on the other end.
“Who is it?~”
“Mr. Al-Dilmun and Mr. Baumer.”
“Samiri! Did you bring a new boy toy with you?”
This irked Samiri, and his voice turned sharp “Ms. Nettes, refer to him as Mr. Baumer or not at all. I will refuse to do further business with you if you disrespect my employees.”
“You’re so boring, Samiri.” A fake sigh from the other side. “Fiiiine. Come on in!”
The door clicked, and Samiri stood back from the door as it swung open on its own. He gave a quick look to Kaspar, akin to a pissed off mother in a grocery store, but his face resettled before the warden could see.
Stepping in, the room was quite bland, especially for the personality they would have to deal with. A simple desk with two chairs opposing each other, and Ms. Nettes settled on the opposite chair with her feet crossed on the desk. Samiri sat in the chair, and set his briefcase in his lap, but moved it with an eye roll when the other motioned for him to do so.
“I really do not have the time for this.” Samiri pointedly said to the other.
“Of course you do!” She said with a giggle. Ms. Nettes considered drilling Samiri like she normally would, instead she looked straight at Kaspar. “How are you, Mr. Baumer?”
Tumblr media
Boy toy.
That’s it. She’s dead to him.
It’s hard for him to disguise his disgust with the warden. In his opinion, these kinds of people should be licking the grime off of Samiri’s (and his) boots, and certainly not talking to them in such a conversational and candid fashion. Does she not know what the Guild could do to her life and career? He stows these thoughts away as she addresses him, his expression simmering into something halfway between a scowl and a grimace.
“I’m fine. Thank you for asking.” He focuses his eyes on the wall behind Ms. Nettes, forcing himself to say nothing more.

“It would be interesting to show you, but I wouldn’t want to see you get injured just to see me use my ability.” Markell let out a small amused huff at that. “But I am here if that ever does happen.”
“Of course. You can even put my number on speed dial if you feel the need.”
“Excellent.”
He tugs his phone out of his pocket and passes it over to Markell once he’s ready to add a new contact to his (nominal) list of associates. Markell seems approachable, well mannered, respectful, useful and quite agreeable. An ideal role model for their failure of a leader.
“I was just about to make dinner at my apartment, would you care to join me? I would like to get to know you better.”
"You're the newcomer. I'm sorry that I haven't been able to introduce myself yet, work has kept me quite busy. I'm Kaspar."
“Oh- Hello.”
Markell looked up from what he was doing to look at Kaspar. He gave the other a once over, more curious than anything else.
“I’m Markell. As you know I am new here.”

“No prob, Casper. I beat up uh… the Russian dude, Viktor was it? With like a door, so pretty sure I can take on anyone now.” Big grin as she gives a thumbs a up. “I’m a kickboxer so like I know my shit!”
Roderich almost got assassinated? Personally she didn’t care, she wasn’t loyal to the guild like at all. Only to Samiri at this point. “Ah shit, didn’t hear about that… Uh, yeah sure! Name the place, though can’t say I’ll be able to split the bill if it’s some place super expensive. Still haven’t gotten paid yet.”
“A kick boxer you say. Also, it’s Kaspar. And you don’t have to worry about paying. I can bill the Guild. Shall we?” He’s a little off-put by Emily, her whole aesthetic was off and it bothers him more than he can put into words.
He hikes with her up to the helicopters, starting it up with the help of his ability. One short phone call later, he’s got himself and Emily a reservation at a decent-ish restaurant.

“Wet work and reconnaissance for the most part. And it’s Kaspar, by the way. I appreciate you looking after Samiri, God knows he needs it now.” A mental image of Vik explodes into his subconscious in 1080p high resolution.
“We’ll likely be very busy in the coming days, what with all of the aftermath of our esteemed leader’s attempted assassination. Would you mind sharing a meal with me? I want to understand how you operate. Team-building is invaluable, after all.”

“Mafia?- Oh, yeah. I’ve also had a lot of practice.” lul. Arlo did cheat a bit by having his ability activate, but all is fair in love and war. He did have the practice from the bi-weekly fights he would get into at pubs and such.
“I thought Guild members were all talk and business. Interestin’ that you work for them.”
“I suppose so.” Kas takes a few steps forward before turning on his heel and walking away. Honestly, this was all more trouble than it was worth.
“You should go home too. It’s getting late.”
"Excuse me, sir. Despite your... fashion sense, ya look really straight. Please tell me am wrong in thinkin' that?" Having received a tip that the other had gone on a date with Mattie, Arlo knew that he could engage in some capacity. And this was one of the things he could think of on the spot. He means no harm I promise.
“No, I’m actually Bi. But I appreciate you putting in effort. Perhaps I chose my outfit poorly today…” He vaguely remembers saying something similar to someone in the recent past…but it matters not.
“Why do you ask? Also, who are you?”
