The Nobel Prize-winning professor who said this:
“Let me tell you about my trouble with girls. Three things happen when they are in the lab: you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them, they cry.“
Has now resigned.

i would suggest reading this article that says that this trick is partly true and sometimes unreliable, but overall a good tactic.

How can you tell when you are in a room, restroom, motel etc. with a mirror or a 2-way glass? Here’s how: I thought it was quite interesting! And I know in about 30 seconds you’re going to do what I did and find the nearest mirror. Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or not? A policewoman who travels all over the US and gives seminars and techniques for businesswomen passed this on… . When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror (i.e., they can see you, but you can’t see them)? There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms . It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by looking at it. So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at? TWO WAY GLASS IMAGE MIRROR IMAGE Just conduct this simple test: Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE! IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR! “No Space, Leave the Place” So remember, every time you see a mirror, do the “fingernail test.” It doesn’t cost you anything. REMEMBER. No Space, Leave the Place: Ladies: Share this with your girlfriends, sisters, daughters, etc. Men: Share this with your wives, daughters, daughters-in-law, mothers, girlfriends and/or friends.

First of all, I checked the FOX26 news page about this story. This is what it said:
“Clifford Hall says he's more than happy to pay child support for his 11-year-old son. "I'm his father it's my responsibility to take care of him," Hall says. But Hall says when the amount of child support was modified no one told him. "I discovered for some reason his employer was withholding a large amount some weeks a small amount some weeks a zero amount some weeks," says Hall's attorney Tyesha Elam. "I didn't want to go to jail basically," Hall says. So Hall quickly paid almost 3 grand in back child support. When Hall and his ex were in Judge Lisa Millard's court last November he owed nothing. "Opposing counsel testified twice that he's all paid up," says Elam. But the attorney representing the child's mother wanted Hall to pay her three grand in attorney fees and Judge Millard agreed. Court documents also reveal Hall wasn't following the court's scheduled times to pick his son up for visitation. Another modification Hall says he knew nothing about. (Source)
I also checked Snopes.com and this is what they said about it:
“The details of the issue as presented in news accounts were somewhat unclear, but the claim that Hall was punished for "paying too much child support" was a misinterpretation of the facts of the case. Based on Hall's side of the story, the crux of the matter was that (as maintained by Hall) a court agreement specifying child support and visitation terms was modified without his knowledge, resulting in his underpaying child support and taking custody of his son outside of the court-approved visitation schedule.  When Hall found out about the modified terms, in order to avoid jail time he quickly paid nearly $3,000 in back child support (despite, he claims, having been told during a court appearance several weeks earlier that he was all paid up) and agreed to pay the child's mother $3,000 in attorney's fees.   Nonetheless, Judge Lisa Millard found Hall in contempt of court and sentenced him to 180 days in county jail for some combination of his failure to pay required child support on time, his failure to follow the court's scheduled visitation times with his son, and/or his walking out of the courtroom in the middle of a hearing. (News accounts at the time were murky about which of these factors was the basis for his sentence.)” (Source)
Basically, Snopes has this story as FALSE. The details are kind of the same, but the information was changed a bit. The guy did not go to jail because he “overpaid child support”

phantom shield at national gallery of victoria
wikipedia article about the phantom (details about the wahgi can be found under Other Appearances)
So, in my art history class today, my professor was talking about something that is so fuckin awesome.
Tumblr media
These are warrior shields from the Wahgi people of Papua New Guinea. The warriors paint them with imagery meant to symbolize animals who have traits they wish to embody in battle. These depictions are intended to give the person using it the powers of what they’re depicting.
Now. Look at this Wahgi shield:
Tumblr media
Hmm. That looks a bit different from the others.
Tumblr media
That looks VERY different. Why, it looks like
Tumblr media
The Phantom… American comic book character by Lee Falk. And that’s because it is.
Tumblr media
The Wahgi people were isolated from the rest of the “modern” world until 1933. They came into contact with WWII service men who shared some aspects of western culture with the tribesmen. In particular, they showed them the comic books they read while shipped out. The Wahgi loved them. In particular, the Wahgi adored the stories of the Phantom, who wasn’t even particularly popular in its home of America.
He is so popular that the few Wahgi who can read english will read the comics out loud in the village center and hold out the pages for everyone to see, so the whole tripe can enjoy them and marvel at the Phantom’s might in battle.
They identify with the Phantom because he came from a jungle territory, like them, wore a mask to fight, like them, and came from a long line of warriors, which the Wahgi, who worshiped their ancestors, deeply respected. Further, despite not really having superpowers, the Phantom is strong, clever, and incredibly fast. He was so fast that his enemies began to believe that he was impervious to bullets and could not be killed.
Therefore, the Wahgi began painting HIM on their shields to invoke HIS abilities in battle. There are TONS of Phantom-Wahgi shields out there.
So, you might think that you’re huge comic book fan, but the Wahgi have taken their Phantom fandom to the next level and have made the Phantom a fucking talisman to carry into battle for strength.

In Need of Mods
a mod's duty here at wesourcestuff is simple -- source stuff. if you see a post on your dash with factual information that lacks a credible source, just do a search on google with some keywords and see if you can find anything on the topic from credible sources, such as cnn, ny times, or huffington post. if it's factual, then reblog the post here and add your confirming sources to the bottom of the post. if not, give a short explanation (if possible) why this information is wrong and give some sources that support the explanation. a mod should also be able to give sources to posts that other uses question (via an ask) and post them. hopefully this will not be any more taxing than it needs to be, especially if we gather enough mods. please message this blog or @mcayauch if you are interested!!
