had this massive epiphany last night regarding the architecture and its inhabitants both on the island and the moon. the cream color/quartz material of the school complements the saturated nature of the gem's appearances, such as their hair. in contrast, the bismuth-like structure, the real crystal containing a diverse range of colors, complements the pearly appearance of the Lunarians.

I know it's been heavily debated whether the moon city is colorful or not, but based off of numerous official art portraying life on the moon (i.e., Love, Freedom, Hell), id like to think that that was the intention ichikawa had.
