It’s 1996.

Ten years have passed and everything has changed.

And for everyone Steve loves, it’s been for the better: Robin is elatedly working her ass off in the city, Dustin is across the country working a computer job that Steve only pretends to understand, Max and Lucas are a picture of domestic bliss off in Michigan, and Eddie is a bona fide fucking rock star.

Everyone has everything they’ve always wanted.

But Steve? Well, Steve’s working an office job that he hates, all of his friends are woefully out of reach, his marriage has reached its breaking point—and he hasn’t got the damnedest clue who he is anymore.

Just before he can truly capitulate to all he’ll never be, a call from Robin forces a reunion with his on-top-of-the-world former friend, Eddie Munson. And during one fateful week that follows, Steve is finally able to answer every question he’s ever had about himself.

Welcome to Corroded Coffin Fest!

This is a fanworks challenge/event that is all about Corroded Coffin. It will take place from July 1st thru July 31st.

Since there are so many events going on (and we love to see it!) we've decided to set a word count range for this event, so the love can be spread around to more events.

GUIDELINES:

Ideas for works include: fic, art, gifsets, fanvids, moodboards, edits, playlists, or anything else you can think of to celebrate Corroded Coffin!

For fics, there is a word count minimum/maximum of between 300-1000 words per drabble. We'll use wordcounter.net to check the word counts before reblogging, so make sure you stick to that range!

Do one prompt, do them all. Hell, do them all twice! It's totally up to you. You can pick and choose what you're interested in. And we're not going to police how you interpret the prompt. Just use them as a jumping off point to be inspired by the boys of Corroded Coffin, and then share that inspiration with us! (Not everything has to be band related, we encourage you to explore other parts of their lives, too!)

Submissions can absolutely be connected to other prompts from the event, or even past works, but should still be able to stand alone each day.

Every morning a new prompt card will go up, reminding everyone of what that day's prompt will be.

I’m not sure if this fic ever made it past the first chapter cause that’s all I read, but Steve has a partner who died. He and Eddie used to date but I think Eddie was an addict and they broke up? Eddie shows up to the funeral because he knew Steve’s boyfriend from AA I think, and didn’t know Steve and him were dating. The chapter ended with them talking on the phone catching up. I think it was meant to be Steddie endgame. Thanks !

I don't plan on writing any additional snippets for Saltwater Prayer. I consider it a well-wrapped gift that's now out of my hands, being enjoyed by all of you.

That being said, I think that Wayne and Jerome's reunion was hesitant, but comfortable in the way familiar things often are.

Imagine a room: it has a couch with sloped cushions from years of use, dust-lined shelves with knick-knacks, a steady cuckoo-cuckoo clock ticking in the corner, and a fireplace. You haven't been here in a long, long while. But there's ambient heat—a resonating warmth pluming from the hearth. Your presence disturbs the dust, but everything else in the room remembers you. You're drawn to the warmth, so you approach the fireplace and disturb the coals. They sizzle in their shuffle, exposing their burnt-orange bellies and revealing themselves as embers. It's then you realize that, despite the unstoppable tick-tock of the clock, everything else was in stasis. Waiting for you. Sure, you'll need to dust the shelves, pat the cushions down on the porch, clear the chimney. But the bones of the past are there. They sigh as you touch them, care for them. Caress and lean. Your heart swells before it, too, releases a sigh of its own. There is still a place for you here. You add wood to the remaining embers and watch as the fire blooms, bright and inviting. It asks not only for your attention, but your active participation. That's the only way it can grow, the only way it can continue. And so, you feed it, arrange it so that it has the best potential to exist, before settling in on that old couch. You kick your feet up and enjoy the encompassing warmth that radiates out to every lonely corner of that room. Lonely no longer. That's how I see their renewed relationship. They never forgot the bones, the embers, the cherished memories. They forgot about time, though. In an effort to make up for the lost years, they steadily refamiliarized themselves with the room and the hearth. They fed the fire when they were ready. Jerome was ready before Wayne was, but Wayne kissed him first—over mugs of freshly brewed coffee. When Jerome invited Wayne to live with him, Wayne cracked a wide smile and swore he could smell the dust and hot asphalt of the road where they first met.
