We are living through another realignment of the two major parties. The Bush/Cheney style neocons are moving towards the democrats. While old school liberals are drifting into the Republican camp. Its a trend thats been slowly building for the last decade, but has really come to a head with this election.

If Trump wins, I think this change will be cemented for the forseeable future. The neocons will find their home among the democrats, and probably push them more rightward. Meanwhile the Republican party will become the party of hippies and would-be dissidents from 'respectable' culture.

(I'm talking in terms of popular perception and their primary voting base. Policy wise there will be less change, and they probably will never drift that far apart).

if Harris wins, theres a chance that this trend will reverse. Though honestly I doubt the momentum can be fully stopped.
