Shift Summary || Wendy Darling || 17
Wendy Darling is still the same head-in-the-clouds-esque girl. Her family is semi-wealthy and has lived in Adamsville their whole life. Wendy has always been a curious girl, believing in everything from the tooth fairy to werewolves. She spends her days either writing in her diary of all the ideas and interesting stories she comes up with in her head or out on the field, cheering with her girls and sneaking kisses with the boys. Every once i a while she babysits, finding herself the most at ease when she is around kids.

By the time they got to the parking lot, Wilbur was breathless, hand shaking where he held Wendy’s. He let go when he realized that they were in the clear, other hand firmly gripping his wand in his pocket. He wasn’t going to go waving it around but he wasn’t about to leave himself defenseless, either. Sure, they sold their story well enough to be allowed to pass, but that didn’t mean that they weren’t being watched or followed. “Are you alright?” he asked Wendy quietly, glancing around for any figures lurking in the shadows.
Wendy was confused. Why would witch hunters plan an attack in Adamsville? Did they want people like Wendy to see? She thought witches were supposed to be a secret. And she didn’t think she saw any people from the boarding school that she knew; in all honesty, she had no idea that many people from the boarding school were at the Carnival in the first place! But now she had to reevaluate everything; was Wilbur one too? She had only meant him once before. Now she didn’t know what to think. At his question she gave a small smile. “Yeah,” she said even though she was sure she was lying. “What about you? They gave you a harder time than me.”

Wendy looked at the blonde, startled out of her daydream about Peter. “You want me to give you answers for a job interview? It isn’t like a test...I mean it is, but that doesn’t mean you can steal answers, if that is what you’re thinking!” Wendy sighed a bit. “But if I was doing that, I would focus on my people skills and elaborate on those. You normally have to be a people-person to get a job. Charm gets you very far.”
“Uh-huh, yeah– I’m working on it.” Helga ended the phone call with frustration riddled in her voice and a snarl on her lips. She flipped her notepad open and sat down in the closest chair to her. Upon opening it, she noticed someone was occupying the seat across the table from her. “Let’s say you’re applying for a job, yeah? A really important job. Humor me, what would you put under ‘skills,’ ‘special talents,’ ‘expertise’… things of that nature?”

New Recruit || Wendy & Hiccup
@dragontamer-hiccup
Just because summer was coming sooner than Wendy would like, didn’t mean she couldn’t start handing out flyer for the Nature Walk Club. She had big plans for the club and figured if she had enough people who were interested in what the club had to offer she could form some sort of summer club. She had spent all night working on these flyers and started posting them around school early. Because she was her she had a small handful of flyers that she was trying to hand out personally. She only tried to give them to the individuals who believed in more than the mundane, people who were genuinely interested in the kooky things that went on in town; it was safe to say she didn’t have that many takers, but Wendy wasn’t the type to give up.
She was about to cal it a day when she spot a familiar lanky boy lingering near the AV room. She didn’t know Hiccup that well personally...but maybe he was looking for a new club to join. Wendy was juggling this and cheerleading now, so she didn’t think it would be hard for him to do both. She walked over to the boy and ran a hand through her hair before tapping his shoulder.
“Excuse me, Hiccup? Do you have a sec?”

As much as Wendy tried to follow her mother’s lesson sand come off as composed and ladylike as possible, she had a lot of weird habits. Her biggest and weirdest one was probably the fact that she talked to herself while she wrote. It was never intentional, but Wendy didn’t really talk to anyone else enough to critique her work. She was her own critique in a sense. And she was constantly fact-checking herself as well. Normally, she didn’t mind if a few people looked at her weird since they never had the nerve to say anything, but for once she was actually a little bothered.
She closed her diary, which she carelessly had in front of her, and fixed her hair a little. She knew she tended to look a bit disheveled when she got into her stuff, and the last thing she needed was this lady thinking she was crazy or something. “Oh! It’s nothing. Just..thinking aloud. You know, people do that plenty.” She smiled a little. “I guess it’s a sign I need more coffee. I pulled an all-nighter.”
Weird || Wendy & Anya
@sewingshadows
You look tired, they said. Get some coffee, they said. Her coworkers were always trying to get her to buy things she didn’t think she needed, but today they weren’t entirely incorrect. It wasn’t like she couldn’t afford to buy a fancy coffee, she just didn’t see the point when she could just make it at home. But she had just run out, and going to the store and then going home to make it seemed terribly inconvenient. So for the first time since coming to Adamsville, Anya made an exception and ordered herself a fancy mocha with extra espresso shots and everything.
As she turned around to leave the small coffee shop, she spotted a girl sitting in one of the chairs alone, talking to herself. It was curious that she was talking with no one beside her, and Anya made her way over to the younger girl. “What are you talking about?” she asked curiously. She seemed concerned about something, and Anya had always kind of been drawn to the weird people anyway, having grown up in a foster home. They were all weird kids, and they all needed a friend, especially when they looked worried over something.

reluctanthunterjohn:
John had gone on dates with his fair share of cheerleaders but Wendy wasn’t like the rest. Which was in no way a bad thing. It was nice, actually. She was nice and genuine. It was certainly refreshing not to be eye-fucked whenever he spoke to her.
“I’m captain this year. D-One scholarships don’t come in if you’re pulling the regular weight. Gotta push a little harder this year. I thought cheerleading practice was over?”
Wendy could understand what he was saying. There was probably a ton of pressure on him from the coach, the scholarships; Wendy was almost relieved she wasn’t trying to pursue athletics in her future. She wasn’t athletically gifted like John was and she knew that could never actually happen, but still.
“Well, you’re doing a great job so far, so I’m sure scholarships will practically be hand-delivered to you.” She nodded her head. “Oh, it just ended. It ran a little late because one girl was..distracted by someone out on the field.” Wendy knew all the other cheerleaders liked to swoon over John during practice and she guessed she could understand why now that she was actually up-close to him
“I’m just happy it’s over so I can focus on Nature Walk stuff.”

Wendy didn’t want to admit it, but she was really starting to love her position as a cheerleader. The Nature Walk Club was still first and foremost in her heart, but it felt kind of nice to dress p in those cute little outfits and cheer on her school’s sport’s teams. She had a lot of pride in Adamsville and being able to express it made her feel incredibly happy.
Practice was wrapping up for the day when she heard someone call out to her. It was lacrosse-god John. Wendy immediately fixed her hair and smoothed out her skirt; she had no desire to impress John, that wasn’t the reason behind her actions at all. She just didn’t like looking sloppy near anyone. She was a lady after all; she had to take care in her appearance (at least that was what her Mother would be telling her right now).
“Hey!” she greeted him with a smile. “What’s up? I thought lacrosse practice was over a while ago.”

Lacrosse was in full swing. John was a senior and the captain. Coach said it was great for colleges to see. John already applied to a few schools and got in. He was really hoping for a few last minute scholarships. That was the thing that sucked about lacrosse being a spring sport. The offers could still come in last minute.
With the potential of playing collegiate lacrosse, John was putting in double the effort. There must have been something in the California air that made his stamina and endurance increase tenfold. John was feeling like he was in the best shape of his life. That was the only explanation he could think of.
Shirtless and sweaty, John left the field and headed inside the school to shower and change. Along the way, he spotted someone. “Hey!” He shouted as a hand ran through his messy blonde locks in order to try and tame them.

Wendy didn’t realize she was staring until he spoke to her. She didn’t mean to stare in the first place; she was zoning out, daydreaming about the magical people she’s met and how it has been quite some time since she’s seen any of them. She wondered if they were alright, if the school was okay! She thought she saw wizards all the time at this rate in Adamsville but the last week or so was...surprisingly bland. “Sorry, I don’t need directions. I know this place like the back of my hand!” Wendy said cheerfully. “Why do you have a map though, if I may ask?”
“Yeah, you take a left at the Wendy’s, and you’re there.” Arthur didn’t know why the person came to them with directions, but he was nice enough to give them to the person. He shrugged it off and looked down at the map in his hands. He was trying to figure out why the sword was in the lake near Adamsville. What was so special about it? Was it the wizarding school? He still barely knew where the place was, but why there and not where Camelot used to be? “Hm?” He looked up and saw someone else looking at him. “Just because I have a map doesn’t mean I’m giving everyone directions today.

Wendy took the flyer from Hiccup, giving a polite smile. She knew his dad was running for Mayor and even though she was sure where she or her family aligned, she was still going to consider him. Besides, Hiccup looked a little miserable and Wendy felt bad. “Thanks Hiccup. How’s the campaigning going?”
Hiccup had finally been roped into handing out flyers to vote for his dad for Mayor. Which is exactly why he found himself outside of the shopping mall for once. “Vote for Stoick!” He called out weakly, holding out a flyer.

Alice pushed her tears back. She wasn’t going to let them see her be weak. She was going to ace this. She was going to show them that believing in magic didn’t mean she was useless. “We’re going to do this.” She whispered to her friend. She pulled away and got back into position. “No, start it up again.”
The little blonde moved along, forcing herself to sync up to the rest of the potential squad members. Wendy’s words fueled her anger. She loved Wendy, but Alice didn’t want to have to be stood up for again and again. The coach had asked Alice to try out before she moved up from the middle school. She was small. She would be a good flier, they told her. When the music stopped, she breathed heavily. “Did… Did I do it, Chicago?”
Wendy knew she was supposed to be dancing along with everyone but she couldn’t help but watch Alice too. She was doing amazing. She really was brilliant. When the music stopped again and Alice looked at her Wendy gave her two big thumbs up. “You were amazing! You have to make the squad at this point, you totally nailed it.” She looked at the other girls, lingering on Tiffany the longest. “How do you think she did, Tiff? Clearly Pacifica wasn’t paying attention because she doesn’t care. But I know you do.”
“That is out of line, Darling,” Wendy put her hands up in mock surrender. “I know. I just want to make sure we are all being given a fair shot. So tell us. How did we do?” She went over to Alice’s side. “We can handle it.”

Alice found her ground when Wendy squeezed her hand. She followed some of the moves before they were told, just so she could get the hang of it. It was difficult, but she let Wendy’s words of encouragement fuel her. When they were left on their own to dance, she felt like she was doing okay. She noticed Tiffany, one of the awful cheerleaders glaring her down. She wasn’t exactly in sync, but with more practice she could be. The music abruptly stopped, and Alice stopped. The older blonde stood in front of her, and she swallowed.
“Pacifica, look. Fairy girl wanted to be normal.” The older girl laughed in the tiny girl’s face.
“I just want to try out. I think I’d be good.” She looked down from the girl’s eyes.
“Why would you want to join the squad? Do you want to fly, like your stupid fairies?”
“They’re not stupid.” Alice whispered, and the girl laughed again.
“Let’s go again!”
When the music stopped, Wendy looked around, utterly confused. Was it over already? But then she saw Tiffany and she knew what was about to happen. When they were done getting their digs, Wendy spoke up. “Actually, let’s not go again.” She rushed back to Alice’s side and wrapped her arms around the girls shoulders. She glared extra hard at Tiffany and Pacifica’s shrill wail of “Don’t mess this up for yourself, Wendy,“ set her on edge.
“I don’t care if I messed this up for myself. What you guys said to Alice was not cool. Stop acting like she’s the only one who dreams of flying and believes in fairies because if you want to pick on her for that, you pick on us both. She looked at Alice. “You were doing great and they aren’t giving you a fair shot. I’m sure coach would love to hear all about that.” She glanced at the cheer squad again, daring them to argue.

Alice knew who Pacifica was. She was the biggest b-word at Adamsville high. It wouldn’t be surprising of the blonde didn’t have HBIC written on the back of her cheer shirt. The thought of going out into the gym shared her, but Wendy’s pep talk helped. She nodded, wiping the sweat from her palms on her shirt. “Let’s go then.”
The little blonde walked out into the gym, her head held high. She stood next to Wendy in the line up, and she listened to the girls speak. They were going to show the girls a dance, and they had to follow along. This part scared her the most, but no one said anything to her. Not yet, anyway. “I think we can do this. I believe in us.” When the music started, Alice watched in awe as Pacifica and her squad demonstrated the dance. It looked difficult. More difficult than anything she had ever done. “Maybe not…”
She followed Alice into the gym and held her hand so that she will relax a little. Pacifica was clearly in a special mood today because the choreography she gave them all was not for novices. She squeezed Alice’s hand. “We still got this,” she whispered. When the squad finished their routine, Wendy squeezed her hand once more before dropping it so she could move to the side and give her space. Pacifica started her countdown signaling that they had to start falling in line with the other girls and Wendy’s eye widened. She wasn’t ready to jump in so fast, but she guessed that was what’s happening. It took them doing it at least three times for her to jump in, but once she got the hang of it, it didn’t seem so bad. She tried to glance over at Alice to see how she was doing, shooting her a thumbs up.

Wendy was really excited to try out for the cheer squad. As much as she didn’t really like Pacifica, doing something fairly normal was welcomed. Besides, she loved the cute little outfits and she did work out enough to consider herself athletically-built. It was only natural that Alice would tryout too. She was her best friend, her practical sister; Wendy wouldn’t be able to go through this without her.
She put her hands on Alice’s shoulders. “They are going to love you, Alice. And if they even try to utter one harsh thing your way, I’ll fire back with my own words. I promise I have a lot of venom inside of me. But I save it for when people mess with my best friend.” She was confident that Alice was going to nail this. “I know you’re going to be great.”
Bring It On || Alice & Wendy
Alice sat in the locker room, twirling her thumbs. Wendy had asked her to join her that afternoon, and when she brought it up to her parents, they seemed excited. They were so happy that Alice had decided to do something “normal” that they bought her clothes just for the occasion.
“Are you sure this is a good idea, Chicago? They’re just going to laugh at me like they always do.” They would ask why the fairy girl wanted to join the cheer squad. Was it so she could experience flying? It seemed like something she would do… “I don’t want them to think I’m stupid… I’m not a good dancer. I never did gymnastics.” She bit her lip and tightened her ponytail.

Jack thought about it. He’d rather like a scrap yard. It seemed like the kind of place to find old used things. “Do you mind if I ask why you were in a scrap yard?” No-maj did things for such wonderful reasons. He just had to know.
Jack never thought about the proper term for himself. There were no-maj vampires. He knew a few. He never really had a distinction before. “Well, before I was a vampire, I was a wizard. I can use magic still. I guess you could call me any of those terms and still be correct.”
“The same reason I’m out here now,” she answered honestly. “I was searching for something extraordinary and just kind of..ended up there. I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said this didn’t happen a lot.”
She nodded her head at his words. “Alright, that’s good to know.” She wouldn’t ever want to offend him, but he was also probably hard to offend. “I’m going to stick with Master of Fright. Or Jolly Jack, because you’re very jolly.”
