she had every faith that kronk would crack the recipe that was currently driving him mad. wendy hopped off her seat and made her way to the fridge to pick out the butter for him and looked closer at the page when she returned to his side. "sure, i can get started on those for you" she smiled up at him and went about her task the chef had set her

Kronk tried to relax a bit and take a deep breath. He knew that she was right, and getting frustrated would only make it worse. There was nothing worse than trying to focus when you were upset. “Alright, that’s a good idea. Well, I guess we should restock on ingredients. It’s Bananas foster, so we’ll need 2 ripened bananas butter, cup brown sugar, cinnamon, banana liqueur and rum. Do you think you could slice these bananas for me?” He asked, bringing the recipe closer so they can both see.

"no, no, they're more than okay. they keep nanny feeling young with them wanting her to run around with them." she smiled at the mention of the dogs adoring their owners "they love you both, you can see it written all over their faces. dogs are the best"

"as long as they're not too hyper for nanny, they forget that not everyone has the energy they do. those two are so full of energy i wonder how they don't buzz with excitement constantly. the park is a godsend to let them run around and tire themselves out, though they'll see adam when we get home and get overexcited all over again"

"they're no trouble at all, mary. it's nice seeing nanny run around with her friends. they bring her out her shell" she smiled, watching the dogs running around

"as long as they're not causing any trouble. they're used to running around with one another that sometimes they forget that other dogs might not want to do that"

"how are you finding teaching at the university so far? it must be an interesting job to have" wendy wondered if it would be a profession she would consider as a career one day "things are good. my coursework has calmed down a bit so i get to enjoy a bit of a breather" and then same the second question, one that sent a blush straight to wendy's cheeks "maybe...okay, yeah he did. he made a picnic and asked me to be his girlfriend. he's the sweetest guy."

"thank you, a few people at work have told me the same thing, but it does help to know some people before being thrown in the deep end" she smiled "anyway, enough about me. how are things, wendy? did that guy you like finally ask you out?"

waiting in line at the cafe never bothered her. given the time of year, she expected to be waiting a bit longer thanks to people wanting hot drinks "i know, next thing we know next christmas will be rolling round in no time" she answered while she chatted away with anna

Anna was at the coffee shop, getting some hot chocolate and chocolate chips because why not. "I can't believe is January already. Time is going by so fast." She spoke with the person next to her.

she was out walking nanny around the park when kitty and doggo ran over. wendy smiled as she let the three dogs play together. "it's okay, they've made friends with nanny" she reassured mary that the dogs were no bother "nanny enjoys the company."

mary was out taking kitty and doggo on one of their many walks of the day. she loved seeing the two running around together and hoped to see her eventual children with them years down the line.

she smiled at the dogs darting around and she tossed their tennis ball for them to fetch but apparently they'd found something else that they decided to divert their attention to.

"kitty! doggo!" she called out, running after them "sorry, they love people"

wendy was happy to make a new friend and with a friend like belle, she had someone to talk all things literature and science about without feeling like she was boring someone.

"anytime, i'm glad i could be of some help to you. people around town are very social, you'll settle in in no time"

being new in town came with its challenges. she had an unwell father, a new job to deal with all while moving to a new town to start her life over. she wasn't sure if things would turn out as well as it was sold to her when the university was trying to win her over but she figured anything was worth a try.

"thank you for sitting down with me. i don't know people around here and it helps to have someone like you to help ease the transition into the town"

wendy held her hands to her cheeks, flustered about the mess she made. "i'm sorry, i didn't mean to..." she apologised again on instinct while she tried to clean up the table.

"there's nothing wrong with you or your friends" they were a lively bunch but there was nothing wrong with them

"umm yeah, i'm okay." she said, not sure if she was trying to convince him or herself. "i've just been studying a lot and not really been sleeping great, that's all"

"It's absolutely no worries, Wen, don't worry about it." Jim said. "Better you than someone like----well me and my friends."

Jim had a friendly smile on his face despite the mess before him.

"You doing alright though? You seem very tired." Jim asked.

it wasn't a question she was expecting to hear, but it was one that she was more than happy to. around him, gone were the days of anxiety and uncertainty. wendy smiled as he moved closer "i don't think i'll ever tire of you at all" the compliments were something she'd need to get used to but there wasn't a moment she wouldn't want to share with him.

wendy felt the butterflies in her chest again, feeling the excitement in the anticipation. her eyes fluttered closed in their kiss, it felt like a dream.

Now that the question had finally gotten out there, Kronk felt like he could relax. It had been weighing on him all day, worrying about whether or not Wendy would say yes. He had felt as though their relationship was progressing that way, but hadn’t wanted to risk losing their friendship if he’d been mistaken. “What a relief,” he smiled, scooting closer to her. “Hopefully you never tire of me telling you how wonderful you are.”

Reaching a hand up to caress her cheek, Kronk hesitated only slightly, trying to assess the situation before leaning in to kiss her.

nothing is as tender as annotating your favourite books. it’s like leaving a piece of your heart on the pages for somebody else to find.

"you can assume, you'd be right" she smiled over at him.

she wasn't sure how long they sat staring at one another but the time had passed her by like it was nothing. absentmindedly swooning over him had become a key part of her daily schedule. "oh, okay" she smiled, the touch of his hand bringing her back to earth. she instantly felt the tension leaving her shoulders. her heart skipped a beat at being asked to be his girlfriend. kronk had been a lifeline when she needed one. he had shown up for her when no one else ever had "kronk, i'd love to be your girlfriend" she grinned "you've been a saving grace in my life. i want to hear about everything and anything you want to tell me."

"No, no, of course not... I mean, I hoped, but you know... I didn't want to assume." Kronk instantly remembered his siblings and parents all saying that infamous phrase, growing up. when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me. "Good," he smiled, feeling reassured.

There was a brief pause in the air as the two of them sat, looking fondly at one another. Kronk reached for her hand, and gave it a gentle, and reassuring squeeze. "Nothing, I just have a question to ask you, that's all," he insisted. "Wendy... getting to know you has been my favorite thing, and I want to continue to do so for as long as you'll let me. But I was hoping, that you might let me do so, as your boyfriend?"

conversation flowed easily for them both but today it felt like they were tripping over themselves at every turn. it was nervous. unsaid words making them pause for thought instead of their usual openness. wendy had thought a million times over of what to say to him, the possibility of ruining their friendship and losing him was a high risk. the one question that played over in her head was is the high risk worth the possible high reward? and for kronk she was sure it was. the problem was how would she tell him?

wendy laughed along with him, finding his nervous energy as endearing as the rest of him was. “of course, you’re incredibly important to me. did you think you weren’t? that’s just not true” she reassured him. at the news of another reason to ask her to meet him her stomach flipped over the stress “oh? there was? what can i help you with?”

It wasn't like Kronk had a fear of talking to people. He was pretty good at it, honestly, and it was normally very easy to talk to Wendy. However, he was finding it a bit difficult to try and put into words what he wanted to ask her. He was more of a let actions speak for you kind of person, and always tried to express himself to the best of his ability.

So why did this seem almost impossible? He was overthinking, he was sure of it, but he wanted everything to come out just right, and didn't want to accidentally embarrass himself. "Really? That's a relief," he chuckled, a bit nervously. Okay... you can do this buddy... just... be yourself. "Wendy... I uh, I have to confess... There's um... well, there's another reason I asked you to meet me here..."
