The first floor of Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum is indeed unique as it exhibits the lifestyles of Chhattisgarh. It has display of utensils, coins, ornaments and weapons dug from many locations of Chhattisgarh including Sirpur, Tala, Madku and many others. Also the display of Hindu deities and moieties prevalent during those days. A timeline of language starting from histograms to Sanskrit can be seen here. It has rare collection of masks often used during rituals. There are torcher weapons, collection of musical instruments used by various tribes. If you’re a musician then you’ll be amazed to see a pentatonic flute. Tribes also use to jazz in those days? For a moment this place will have you lost in a totally different world. The way our ancestors connected nature to their daily life is one heck of a remarkable feat. Everything made of wood, clay, stones, bones and similar natural things. And they might not have language through which they could write and communicate. But they had elaborated system of art which can express things way beyond words. Traveling in Chhattisgarh I’ve seen the moieties they’ve sculpted on doors, on the pillars of temples and even on wood. And then at this museum just by looking various things around, connecting them to our journeys and improvising, and when mind just recreates their whole world... its like a movie of a real world. Once you’ve reached Arang then you’ll find yourself in the middle of tributaries of destinations. Go straight Devhills, go left to Sirpur and much before that, go right to Mahasamund.... further up on this road there’s Khallari. Visit to Khallari is usually accompanied with visit to Bagbahara, but you need to stay tough. Because Khallari is going to give you about 800+ stairs before the darshan of Khallari mata. Now that you’re at an altitude already, go around the premise. A see horizon, hills and greenery, some ponds and lake and take a deep breath - a gush of fresh air (perhaps with smell of coconuts if you’re really close to the sanctum). You must’ve seen this on the way to Nagpur via Train. This is an interesting waterfall which is actually in Maharashtra Border but you’ll be traveling well within the periphery of Chhattisgarh to reach here. Right, you’ll never know that you’re in Maharashtra now. Ok, so the thing about this waterfall is the flow don’t propagate anywhere, as you can see in the video there’s no forward stream. So where the water go? It’s been said that the floor is so porous that water travels right underneath the ground and then connects somewhere with river branches. So that’s what make this spot intriguing. It was one of the most fascinating ride, driving through this wildlife sanctuary on a silent Maruti Gypsy hoping to see the king of the jungle. Well, that dream didn’t come true. But at Achanakmar, we did witness highly dense forest located on hilly terrains. We came across some shy animals expert in hiding away from the lens smartly using dense plants and trees to their advantage. Bhoramdev at Kawardha, said to be built by the Gonds is dedicated to Bhoramdev - the Shiva of Kawardha. The temple is also famously known as the Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh, but let’s not make stereotypes here. This magnificent temple has every inch of its wall covered in sculptures. It might look no different but on a closer look you’ll notice, the layer at the base of Bharabahakas (dwarves Vamana) who’re lifting the heavy weight of temple’s longest built. Second pattern that emerges is of jangha – the warriors and the third row is erotic scriptures while the fourth have worshippers some of them playing instruments. Found this clip again and I thought I lost it. It was taken during 2012 with Nokia N8. Yes you know the place, its Tirathgadh in Kanger Valley National Park (that I found in Bilaspur folder :/ some geotag issue) during November. So the water is super muddy and in the quantum of juggernaut! It’s gorgeous and scary at the same time. It has been a while that this space completely turned around with facelift. Not that it wasn’t happening earlier but the new structures just blend in to the jazz. An attempt to make it complete and seems perfectly working with more space to walk, new bridge to cross and a space for get together. But there’s one thing about rivers that really don’t need much touch ups - the river banks. When you’re done playing your roles with rest of the world and you need to give some rest to your turbulent mind, all you want to do is to sit at a riverside and stare as it flows. Nature has given everything for us to grow, create, evolve and heal. Nature has all the capacity to make us wound-proof, hurt-proof beings but it choose otherwise.
