Learning log:

Algorithms:

Bucket Sort, where items go into an array based on floor after dividing it by length of array. Collisions are handled by just keeping a list at that index and then sorting using insertion sort, need to look at the upper/lower bound again to refresh my memory. Need to kick my ass tomorrow and finish my project here.

Also started on dynamic programming (bottom-up approach) and dealing with binomial coefficients (n!/k!(n-k)!), saving time at cost of complexity. Fibonacci sequence was covered as well.

Got results of midterm back. It was a 69%, which may or may not be a sign from patron God that I'm being looked out for. There was a curve, which my imposter syndrome is murdering me for. Talked w student I had a bitch session with after the midterm, he got a 63%. Regardless, I will kick my ass and do best I can on final now that I know what to study.

Lunch was fun, I hung out in q center with Cas and I took a look at the skeleton they have. The bones of the hand are odd because the upper carpals are all smashed together and merge into the metacarpals, which shouldn't be how it is. They've also got a ball hinge joint perpendicular between the radius and ulna. A agreed it's funny.

Need to look more into the bioinformatics with R book I picked up. I seem to have forgotten nearly everything when it comes to genetics, which is a shame I hope to remedy.

Machine Vision: optical flow, I need to rewatch lectures and look at slides. I don't understand partial derivatives still which is messing with me actually learning anything, I need to sit down and go through Khan Academy because that's shameful at this point in the semester and it's keeping me from performing work. Project is priority 3.

Machine Learning: neutral networks and deep theory relating to mathematical implications. The class is dry as hell at this point but a necessary evil. I need to identify the textbook the professor is using to teach this, I think a common theme is the textbooks teaching the subject far better than he is. Need to submit the email regarding my project group's choice of papers. I'm in a tough situation because one of our group members has done a fair chunk of the code already. That's not why I'm getting my Masters, but hopefully the further modifications we make will get enough to satisfy me. The homework is my last priority.

Programming Languages: Today was a worksheet day and I need to watch all of the lectures for this unit because I don't think slides will sustain me during the quiz, I got lost reading them during the worksheet.

- Look more at organs and pick out a nice dissection kit that A and I can share when they arrive in December

Finally on ADHD meds so I feel I can write more on here. My IT supervisor has me working hard today, but I need to finish algorithms theory homework. I got a 70% on previous theory homework which saddened me. I need to go back and figure out what I missed, because the TA didn't comment anything of use other than "wrong". That combined with the less than optimal grade on the quiz makes me nervous as to the midterm.

Also need to work on machine vision project which is due Sunday.

The two types of math are algebra and analysis. All math falls into these two categories.

Probability theory? Analysis. Category theory? Algebra. Differential geometry? Analysis. Complex analysis? Believe it or not, Algebra.

Taken slightly aback because I just realized while reviewing theory that the notation for asymptotic definitions have been different between book and the slides. It's arbitrary, but I worry my professor will take off points if I recite the "wrong" definitions, so I need to start writing definitions like g(n) ∈ O(f(n)) instead of f(n) ∈ O(g(n))

Okay, finished up my Algorithms project so I get a treat. A little uneasy because I didn't really know how to generate a power set so I did use GeeksForGeeks to help me with that aspect, but I'm not foreseeing many issues w getting help there since a) not the point of the assignment and b) we're explicitly told that we can use stack overflow

Alright, feel a bit better because the professor talked about an upcoming quiz where we'll be talking about asymptotic notation and recurrence. Class was interesting and we talked about recurrence trees. I will work on textbook problems later on to hammer home the concept.

Returning to this. I feel relaxed and ready to buckle down today. A little grouchy because I ended up paying 8.50 instead of 4.50 at the dining hall.for breakfast, but that won't kill me. Need to print my notes for algorithms and revise notes further, the professor hasn't said anything regarding midterms and that makes me uneasy. Need to also finish up my brute force project, which should be easy.

Feeling very good today, I woke up late which got me anxious, but said "fuck it" and showered. Smart call, I smell like Pumpkin Spice now. I'm on campus a half hour before first class of the day, which isn't enough time to study but whatcha gonna do? Got 10/10 on Machine Vision quiz, need to write an email to Programming Languages TA saying I can't make it to office hours since I misread his times (I need to make a calendar with all office hours on it). Need to work further on Machine Vision project, need to finish on Tuesday at latest if I hope to hit the club with @bagalois but I'm making good progress. It helps I'd accidentally worked on the project before when I was doing Google Colab class notes. Also need to finish algorithms class project.
