Barangay Tominobo, Iligan City
Barangay Tominobo is one of the barangays in the city of Iligan, which is also called as the Majestic City of Waterfalls, which is located at Northern Mindanao Region X. It has a determined population of 8,780 by the year 2015, which represents that 2.56% of the total population of the city. Tominobo proper is situated at approximately 8.2045, 124.2266 in the island of Mindanao. Elevation of these coordinates are estimated at 62.9 meters or 206.4 ft above mean sea level.
Upon entering the barangay of Tominobo, from the west side of Iligan City is the province of Lanao del Norte. In terms of exiting the barangay, you’re enetering the barangay Tubod and Mahayahay.
What is the origin of the barangay’s name?
In the past, the barangay’s name was told by the residents as unknown, not until multiple datas and researchs were gathered from the elders. It was told by them that the name of the barangay came from the name “Tommy,” which was recognized as an American Cavalry Officer who used to visit “Nagtubo,” a certain place located inside the barangay. Nagtubo is a bisaya term for the word grew, and it said that they called the place nagtubo because during that time, the population of the said place was rapidly growing.
On December 31, 1967, the name Barangay Tominobo was created by the virtue of a resolution no. 58, series 1967 of the City Council of Iligan and City Ordinance no, 337 which was approved. And that is where Barangay Tominobo was named.
But later on 19778. Feliciano L. Palos, the Barangay Kagawad, authorized to change the barangay name from Tominobo to Tomas Cabili, in honor of the late Philippine Senator from Iligan City, Tomás Lluisma Cabili , who died in a plane crash together with late former President, Ramón del Fierro Magsaysay and 23 others, that happened in Mount Manunggal in Balamban, Cebu on March 17,1957.
On this day, Iliganons calls the barangay both Tominobo and Tomas Cabili.
