SO! here it is! The roof comes off with the rafters attached; the floor for the 'ground' level is also removable--remember that this is designed to sit in about 3 inches of litter. The windows are inset so that after this is fired, I can cut and glue in little panes of stained glass.

I finished my temperature blanket! Because the number of days in a year is not neatly divisible by the dimensions of a twin-size blanket, or at least not in a way that makes whole numbers of crochet rows, my temperature blanket actually covers 1/1/24-1/8/25 (374 days). I'm going to add a charcoal grey border around the edge to even out some of the wiggliness and bind up some of the ends, but! The important part is done!
I'm really proud of myself for sticking with a project for a whole year (and change). Watching my blanket grow square by square and row by row was both a delight and an exercise in patience. I'm glad I made something I really like and that I'm excited to have in my life for a long time to come. I hope to carry forward the delight in incremental change and the patience required to achieve that change into the rest of 2025.
Special thanks to my friends putting up with and cheering on my frequent blanket pics and updates in the arts and crafts channel of our discord server, as well as to Minion, who has taken every opportunity to snuggle with me while working in this blanket (and frequently hindering my ability to work by demanding my attention).

im watching a little doc on youtube about an 11th century castle, and theres a bit where they are talking to a group of older women who are working on a large hand embroidered tapestry commemorating its nearly 1000 years of history & into the modern era.. and off on the border they show a bit where the women have stitched themselves working on it into the piece itself, and it made me kinda emotional
Tumblr media
how amazing to have a visual depiction of the women who spent literal years painstakingly stitching such a wonderful piece of art that historically would have gone uncredited

I’m working on getting my pile of smaller sewing projects done (hi I haven’t really posted here in a hundred years) so I have more space to work on quilts so here’s a thread to keep myself honest

urghhhh i just finished this very cute cowl i was knitting, and bound off using the bind-off they recommended as being nicely elastic (sewn bind-off; p2 on the needle, k1 off the needle). instead, it’s just loose, and the top edge has kind of mushroomed as a result:
Tumblr media
i’m going to have to rip it out and redo it (including probably doing back a row or three of ribbing because the yarn will be messed up). blergh.
anyone got any idea for good elastic bind-offs that are actually elastic, rather than just Loose?

Knitting a garment and then wearing it is surreal enough like woag I made that but having a knitted garment for a year is even more surreal like. Yeah that sweater I’ve worn all year so it feels like it’s always been a sweater? Guess what that was all yarn before I got ahold of it. The longer time passes since it’s been yarn the more wild it is to think that it used to be a bunch of balls of yarn

I was walking out of court yesterday and the deputy working the security desk goes 'stay safe out there!" And I go, yeah the sidewalks are pretty slippery. He responds, "hey, do you carry?' and I said no, because we're very much not allowed to bring guns to court. And he goes, "You want some mace? or a knife? we got extras"
so now I have some random mace and a knife.
Just in case.
