Picture Zoro settling in for a nap. He's sitting up against a wall or something and is about to fall asleep until he feels a weight on his thigh. When he opens his eye he sees Sanji smiling up at him, head in his lap. "Wanted to see what all the fuss was about," Sanji tells him.

Zoro smirks and closes his eyes, playing with Sanji's hair until they both fall asleep and take a nap together.

Sanji petting Zoro's hair is just a staple of my writing this point. You can probably expect to see it come up at least once in my Zosan fics.

But I've never asked myself how Sanji started petting Zoro's hair and how Zoro realized that he liked it. So that's what I did this morning.

Zoro's not used to soft touches. Sure, he can be soft and gentle with others just fine when he wants to be, but he's never really had that directed at him before Sanji.

I think it happens on accident one day. Zoro's settling in for a nap and Sanji can't help hhimself, so he reaches out and touches the green hair he's made fun of so many times. It's soft. It feels nice to be able to be close enough to Zoro to pet his hair like this.

Zoro jolts, eyes snapping open. Sanji snatches his hand back. "Ah, I'm sorry," he mumbles, embarrassed.

Zoro stares at him for a few tense moments before he says, tentatively, "What were you just doing?"

"Touching your hair," Sanji says. "I wanted to know how it feels, but I won't do it again if it makes you uncomfortable."

"It's fine," Zoro says, the tension leaving his shoulders as he settles back down. "You just surprised me, is all."

"Right," Sanji says, moving to stand. "Again, sorry. I'll leave you alone now."

But Zoro grabs him by the wrist before Sanji can get up to leave. "Could you..." he says, uncertainty coating his words. "Could you do it again?"

Sanji smiles and sits back down next to him, tells him "Sure." He pets Zoro's hair until Zoro falls asleep, content and relaxed under Sanji's attention.

It's only a matter of time until Sanji and Zoro learn just how much Zoro likes having Sanji play with his hair.

Mo Dao Zu Shi Fic Recs

This fandom has a LOT of fic, but it took me a while to really find The Good Stuff.  So here is some of it.  Also this is sampled so randomly and favors recent stuff but I’ve been rolling in fic for the last week, so here.  Also also I prefer the original setting, so no modern AUs here.   Also all wangxian, because…yeah.

a stone to break your soul, a song to save it by rikke  (M, 141K,  WIP but nearly finished) - I can’t say enough good things about this fic. It’s my favorite story I’ve read in the fandom so far (in one 24 hour binge of awesomeness.)  It’s a canon divergent AU, an arranged marriage AU, and manages to be a fix-it of the entire canon.  One arranged marriage and the sad things don’t happen!  (Okay most of the sad things.)  Seriously the alternate plot the author has created is BRILLIANT and rivals MXTX in a big way.   It honestly feels like reading an alternate universe version of the novel.  

the impracticality of zithers as weapons by sushicorps (E, 45K, Complete) - Canon divergent fic in which WWX is poisoned but does not die and instead locks himself away for 13 years.  He finally returns to a meeting of sects to uncover the evil plots of JGY.  A little angst, but ultimately a happy ending, with good communication/reunions with JC and LWJ. 

If You Were Made For Me by etymology playground (M, 8K, Oneshot) - I love this author and this is a beautiful example of their work.  This canon compliant fic imagines that LWJ spent the night in Yiling after his visit.  Wangxian get one night together before parting.  Sad ending.  Utterly gorgeous, soft, and heartbreaking.

i want your heart to be for me by thirtysixsavefiles (T, 8K, Oneshot) - Soulmate AU, pretty much canon compliant.  Lots of mutual pining and angst in this fic where they both know they are soulmates but are waiting for each other.  Happy ending.

So go on and let the rain pour by allollipoppins (T, 4K, First in series) - Pride and Prejudice AU.  You guys KNOW I’m a fool for 19th cen AUs, and there’s something perfect about WWX as Elizabeth Bennet and LWJ as Darcy.  This is the falling in love fic, the next in the series is the wedding night.  It’s also omegaverse, but very minorly.  

tempestuous by @omgkatsudonplease (M, 5K, First in Series) - I have to admit I haven’t read the author’s long fics in this fandom yet, but this CQL-verse set of fics are DELIGHTFUL.  They imagine teenaged Wangxian starting a friends with benefits relationship and looks at canon’s events in that light. I’m always partial to a “what if they were screwing in the background” fic. 

I’ll keep your crystal heart by captainhurricane (E, 2K, Oneshot) - I said (somewhere, maybe a tag?) that I wanted to see the dynamic of Yiling Patriarch/LWJ and then this fic just appeared as if by magic.  Set during LWJ’s visit to the Burial Mounds, this is a fairly dark Yiling Laozu who takes control and a LWJ who is conflicted about the whole thing.  A totally different side of the characters nicely done.  

Perfectly Arranged by mondengel (M, 11K, Oneshot) - This is an A/B/O Arranged Marriage AU in which LWJ unknowingly meets his intended while he’s sneaking over a wall bearing alcohol. Neither of them know the person they keep running into at night is the person they have to marry without seeing.  Cute and hot.

the meaning of the ritual by newamsterdam (E, 8241, Oneshot) - WWX agrees to a purification ritual in which an unspecified cultivator has sex with him in order to keep the sects happy with him and the Wens safe.  Naturally LWJ volunteers.  You knew I had to have one fic that was mostly smut, right?  But this is remarkably soft and gentle for a fic where WWX is bound and blindfolded on an altar.

Maintaining a convo with WYB is not easy!

In this convo he needs to act out a scene where one of the women always says yes and also to things, and one who always says no.

Woman 1: Yes, and I hear Lego have come out with a new model ...

WYB: Really, how come I don’t know about this?

Woman 1: [Speechless]

This is how WYB often cuts conversations dead.

WYB: aren’t i meant to be rejecting people?

others: no, you are not.

Woman 1: Let’s go look at Lego models and go by car.

WYB: [immediate slip of the tongue] 不行 we cannot. [LOL]

Then it’s decided they will go out to buy Lego

Woman 2: No, I want to stay at home.

Stepping out of character: emphasises how she doesn’t want to reject WYB and she’s doing it for the sake of the skit

WYB: Rejection is good!

Woman 2: SWEAT DROPS

Woman 1: yes lets stay home and also we can eat ice cream etc.

Woman 2: No, aren’t you a dancer you shouldn’t eat so much you’d get fat we should dance instead.

Woman 1: Yes that’s good and maybe Wang Yibo should show as a dance.

Woman 2: I AGREE TO THIS WITH MY ENTIRE BEING.

WYB: [rage] 你不是 NO 吗？！！

WYB: Aren’t you the NO person?!😡😡😡
