On casting Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, Muschietti wanted an actor who not only matched the physical description, but also embodied the character as “Some of the characters of the Losers’ Club are very, very particular and very specific and, for me, you can’t play Richie Tozier if you’re not Richie Tozier. So, for me that was probably the character where I said, ‘Man, I have to find Richie Tozier in real life.’ then along came Finn, and I immediately realized this kid had a burning need inside to express himself and be funny and when I saw him, I said, ’Yeah, that’s him.’
