The crisis facing women who give birth is unacceptable; and for black women it is dramatically more outrageous.
The problem isn’t “can” we solve this - the problem is we aren’t mustering the collective will to do so.
I will continue to lead this fight in Congress with some other determined legislators. We must all be a part of the movement to end the high rates of maternal mortality in America.
"As a Black woman who fought hard for my life for 5 days after having a c-section and suffering postpartum hemorrhaging and perioperative hypothermia, I approve of this message! Also, our rates for them giving us c-sections are doubled that of White women, which could also be a contributing factor in our labor mortality rate."
Meanwhile, the state of Georgia just dismissed all of the members of the maternal mortality committee 🤷🏽‍♀️

In a world full of instant gratification.. may we never lose sight of the natural cycles of life.. how the moon takes its time to be full or how the crops take their time to harvest..
May we slow down & just be present..

I’m gonna depress the hell out of all of you. ready? ok go
so, that “stop devaluing feminized work post”
nice idea and all
but the thing is, as soon as a decent number of women enter any field, it becomes “feminized,” and it becomes devalued.
as women enter a field in greater number, people become less willing to pay for it, the respect for it drops, and it’s seen as less of a big deal. it’s not about the job- it’s about the number of women in the job.
observe what happened with biology. it’s STEM, sure, but anyone in a male-dominated science will sneer at the idea of it being ‘for real,’ nevermind that everyone sure took it more seriously when it was a male dominated field. so has happened with scores of other areas; nursing comes to mind
so the thing is, it’s not the work or the job that has to be uplifted and seen as more respectable. it will never work out, until people start seeing women as respectable
but there’s a doozy and who the fuck knows if it’s ever happening in my life time

Yes get a routine but don’t worship it. Decide to do at least ten minutes of reading/languages/learning a new fact a day for mental stimulation. Be serious about your happiness, your joy, your beauty and commit to your self care practice, make it essential. Whatever it is you want for your life, decide you live it today and entrench yourself in it. Stop waiting for the perfect guru to remind you of your greatness & deservingness and work on your self esteem.

relationships are so much healthier when the goal is to experience life together and not to try to make the person into who you want them to be or to make them do what you want them to do.

if voicing concerns, needs, wants, feelings etc etc etc “ruins” something, let it get ruined.

There's something you need to know about US health insurance
While the topic is still hot I want to mention something I think is important. I have made a post or two before but it bears repeating.
I once worked at a call center of one of the leading health insurance companies
The corruption and coddling of "the rich" is REAL.
None of the executives of Facebook, snap chat, twitter (any social media or tech company) pay deductibles
YES THE RICH DO NOT HAVE DEDUCTIBLES
Not only that but ELECTIVE SURGERIES (noes jobs, boob jobs, face lifts, tummy tucks ect.) for these people was also covered in full.
And these are RICH people. Not your neighbor who collects fancy watches with the lake house. Not the guy with the loud shiny car or the lady with fancy clothes. Oh no those neighbors might as well be paupers cosplaying as rich compared to these people.
The other thing that I need to tell you is this: the children of the rich are walking pharmacies. All the party drugs normal people go to jail for "abusing" yeah these kids have a script even if the medications don't make sense to prescribe together.
One of the most radicalizing moments in my time there was:
I had one call with a RICH person and let them know their elective rhinoplasty and boob job for their wife was covered with no deductible. The plan they were on was like $250 a month, for a billionaire, for the whole family.
Right after that call I had to tell a young woman that her medically necessary abortion would not be covered.
Walking out of that job was not difficult. Keep in mind, the call center reps have no control over what insurance will and will not pay for. They cannot "do you favors" and push a claim in faster. I have plenty of stories from my time there, from people loosing their minds to actual threats to completely incompetent supervisors. But the thing that stuck with me the most is that the unfairness and corruption is baked into insurance from the start.
It's designed to keep/make you as poor as possible

In the 1960′s Legally a woman couldn’t
Open a bank account or get a credit card without signed permission from her father or hr husband.
Serve on a jury - because it might inconvenience the family not to have the woman at home being her husband’s helpmate.
Obtain any form of birth control without her husband’s permission. You had to be married, and your hub and had to agree to postpone having children.
Get an Ivy League education. Ivy League schools were men’s colleges ntil the 70′s and 80′s. When they opened their doors to women it was agree that women went there for their MRS. Degee.
Experience equality in the workplace: Kennedy’s Commission on the Status of Women produced a report in 1963 that revealed, among other things, that women earned 59 cents for every dollar that men earned and were kept out of the more lucrative professional positions.
Keep her job if she was pregnant.Until the Pregnancy Discrimination Act in 1978, women were regularly fired from their workplace for being pregnant.
Refuse to have sex with her husband. The mid 70s saw most states recognize marital rape and in 1993 it became criminalized in all 50 states. Nevertheless, marital rape is still often treated differently to other forms of rape in some states even today.
Get a divorce with some degree of ease. Before the No Fault Divorce law in 1969, spouses had to show the faults of the other party, such as adultery, and could easily be overturned by recrimination.
Have a legal abortion in most states. The Roe v. Wade case in 1973 protected a woman’s right to abortion until viability.
Take legal action against workplace sexual harassment. According to The Week, the first time a court recognized office sexual harassment as grounds for legal action was in 1977.
Play college sports Title IX of the  Education Amendments of protects people from discrimination  based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial  assistance It was nt until this statute that colleges had teams for women’s sports
Apply for men’s Jobs   The EEOC rules that sex-segregated help wanted ads in newspapers are illegal.  This ruling is upheld in 1973 by the Supreme Court, opening the way for women to apply for higher-paying jobs hitherto open only to men.
This is why we needed feminism - this is why we know that feminism works
