The Agojie were regiments of soldiers who served in the army of Dahomey (now Benin) in West Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were all assigned female at birth but expressed their gender in a variety of ways. Some renounced womanhood, and identified themselves as men. At other times, the group embraced womanhood in their war songs, comparing themselves to lionesses, and linking womanhood to their superiority over male regiments.

1 February 2025.
A powerful moment of joy as a Palestinian man, overwhelmed with emotion, leaps into the crowd to embrace his relative who was freed as part of the hostage exchange deal between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli terrorist occupation.
May all Palestinian hostages be free.

i don't wanna sound hopeless but i feel like so many of you don't care or have stopped caring about palestine.
the news of hospitals being bombed, children being massacred, people dying from the cold, and the famine spreading in gaza does not seem enough to grab attention or make people care.
what new tragedy needs to befall gaza for you to start talking about it? the occupation kills a child every few minutes. people are cold and are starving. refugee camps are being bombed with bombs that can level city blocks.
this all happens because of all of us. we are complicit in this genocide because our governments use the taxes we pay to send weapons to the occupation. weapons that are used to kill children and impose a blockade that is starving 2 million people.
the very fact that we're still going about our days when all of this is going on breaks my heart. especially because we have failed to stop our governments from using our money to arm israel.
i urge you, please be generous and donate to suad and her baby khaled. he is just six months old and suad is unable to find any formula for him. if she finds anything, it is extremely expensive. the baby also needs warm clothes and is suffering from a respiratory problem and needs a nebulizer.
@suad-khaled has been verified [#279]
please help suad and her baby boy

in real life you will probably not respond to harassment in a sexy, clever, scripted way where you come out with the upper hand and everyone claps. you will freeze up and your moment will pass, or your voice will shake when you tell them to stop and you’ll realize two minutes later that you’re gross and sweaty and sticky from the adrenaline. maybe you’ll be on the ball and answer in a way you actually think is pretty smart and get ignored, or they’ll get more aggressive when you mouth off to them. you almost never will walk away feeling victorious. you walk away feeling uncomfortable and relieved that it’s over. you’ll think about it later and imagine that maybe you could have said something else. maybe you’ll feel ashamed that you weren’t quicker-witted, weren’t able to cut them down to size, weren’t able to avoid that lingering sick feeling in the pit of your stomach, as though there’s some kind of magical words you could have said that would have left you feeling less powerless. there really aren’t.

Life advice for the ages. Those doing wrong want you tired and hopeless. But stay angry. And when a chance is in front of you: bite back. Digital plans for a real linocut. I'm anxiously awaiting a press to make this stuff possible with my RSI in my hands.

I know tumblr is America centric, but yesterday the worst mass shooting in modern swedish history happened. It was a school shooting with over ten people dead, a lot more hurt and in critical condition. The school is a Municipal adult education, with a lot of other schools close by. Apparently videos were taken from schools nearby who heard the gunshots.
It was a horrible incident that has sent Sweden into a state of shock. I just feel like people need to know about this.

Now that there has been a ceasefire (really a reduction in assaults, there have still been incidents of israeli agression), WE NEED to support our Palestinian friends in moving forward in the way THEY CHOOSE.
One such person is my friend @samah-2 who is an absolute sweetheart. She has a whole family that she looks after and their home has been decimated from the war. Unfortunately the aftermath is VERY expensive for Palestinian families. Please help Samah and her family on their journey to a free Palestine and their own goals and self-determination. Show up now more than ever. I have linked her gfm. If we can raise 2k by the time this poll closes, that would be amazing.

In 1617, Ethiopian noblewoman Walatta Petros left her husband to take up life as a nun. She maintained her Orthodox faith in the face of Portuguese attempts to convert Ethiopia to Catholicism, and went on to found seven religious communities, working alongside her life partner, fellow nun Eheta Kristos.

If you are trans I need you to stay alive.
Stay alive for every other trans person fighting, stay alive for every trans person who is no longer here, and most importantly stay alive for yourself.
They don’t get to erase us! They don’t get to take away our rights, and treat us as less than human. Don’t let them erase us, and don’t let them make you a statistic. Don’t let them win.
Stay alive
If you won’t do it for yourself, then do it for others. Do it out of spite.
