As someone who started the Fallout franchise with 4 and is only casually familiar with the older entries, playing The Outer Worlds really opened my eyes to the level of satire i was missing out in by only playing the bethesda entries.

Like yeah, both of them do the “woah, cool retro future!” thing, but TOW uses that early 1900s retrofuture setting to sell this wildly satirical parody of an anarchocapitalist society. A setting which -despite being so balls to the wall- works because everyone in the world takes it 1000% seriously: “What do you mean ‘why do we pay rent on our own graves?’ It’s only fair to the company!” “Sorry I know i’m dying but i can’t accept medical assistance from you if you’re from a competing company”.

Thoughts on Outer Worlds Creatures: Mantiqueens and Primals

Both are too big, fuckoff big as my great uncle would say. Whenever a character mentions getting into a scrape with one on purpose, I wonder how they survived as long as they have

I fight Mantiqueens and Mantisaurs because the plot puts me in their way, otherwise I would not fight them, XP be damned.

They make me viscerally afraid, because they are very Big and I am very Small and they have a Thought Process.

I had never fought a Primal on my first playthrough, because the idea of fighting a giant glowing gorilla with anything smaller than a rocket launcher is not my favorite thing.

I will fight Primals this time. But I will not like it.

Killing Mantipillars is fine though, because that means less Manti anything.

I hate the fly swarms. Why did science make you Like This. What purpose does this serve other than making me very itchy.
