Randomly remembered how as a kid my mom would always fast forward through the beginning of 'Finding Nemo' because she thought Coral's death was too violent, so for years I never knew why Nemo was raised by a single father and assumed Nemo's parents had gotten fish divorced and Marlin had won custody of Nemo. My dad's biological parents divorced when my dad was young, so I always knew what divorce was and I knew my Grandma had gotten primary custody of my dad, so I just assumed that's what happened with Nemo. It wasn't until years later when I watched Finding Nemo with my grandparents without my mom and they didn't know to fast forward through the beginning that I finally knew what happened to Coral and I was *devastated*.

we have to pump the brakes on the narrative that there was an extreme rightward shift since 2020. that nyt map with the red arrows does not depict the popular vote. trump is currently set to win the popular vote with *fewer* votes than he lost with in 2020. right now the signs don't indicate dem voters flipped to trump or significantly voted third party/write-in, they did not turn out.

meanwhile abortion ballot measures and many downballot democratic candidates are outperforming harris in the same districts. whatever your diagnosis of what harris/walz's specific mistakes were, their loss is a failure of the dem presidential campaign, not a sign of a significant ideological shift.

there are a serious number of fascist, racist, misogynistic voters whom we cannot underestimate, but the harris campaign is already trying to claim this was "out of our control" and "the whole country moved to the right." rejecting this explanation is critical because the idea that the electorate is simply becoming more conservative/racist/fascist is logic that will be used to run further and further to the right. i mean, they want to anyway, but we must not help them.
