You Need to Read.

When people tell you to read, they aren't being pretentious. We are trying to help you. It wasn't until I started reading actual books that I realized how little you can inform yourself on Wikipedia and YouTube alone.

If you read books about race, you will understand racism better. If you read books about feminism, you will understand feminism better. If you want to deeply understand anything you will want to find a book about it. It will save you time to read books because you will understand faster. It will help you deeply understand issues so as to not be skewed by false analysis.

This does not mean that all books are good. Some are poorly written, some misrepresent evidence. Take time to find a good book from a scholar you respect. If it's an older text, find a podcast or guide breaking it down into easier language. There are thousands of good books out there, find one at your level to engage with. There's so much information that hasn't been made into an infographic.

There is something fundamentally evil about turning communication devices into bombs. To turn the integument of the modern world, the ability to interact with one another at a distance, into being something that could kill you and the people around you, it's just wrong.

You could say we were already there. Plenty of people out there in the world think about how making a phone call or posting a video could bring down a drone strike on their heads. Hezbollah ditched cellphones out of fear they could be easily spied on. But for the danger to be immediate, to be in your hand, to have been there for months by your bedside, in the radio on your belt...

The pagers yesterday beeped before they exploded, to make people bring them closer to their faces. We're conditioned to pay attention to the devices in our pockets. They are an indispensable part of our social worlds. And they are inextricably connected to the globalized supply chains that it's difficult to even imagine securing.

It seems like a fundamentally different kind of attack, and nobody knows the consequences. Planting explosives inside thousands of devices, at some point in a supply chain? It's a new kind of terrorism that only an immensely powerful state shielded from fear of consequences can perform.

everybody wants to be the perfect victim but the truth is that abuse and trauma make you a worse person (and that's okay). we can all readily admit to depression and anxiety but what about exaggerated self importance in the form of neuroticism, or how believing in your own victimhood makes you think your feelings are more important than others'? what about envy and jealousy, and constant distrust? what about volatile emotional reactions, however you justify them to yourself? these things actually hurt real people who matter. i am guilty. i want to change.
