Imo, capitalism’s purported ability to consume all challenges made against it has as much to do with the nature of capitalism as it dies the nature of critiques/challenges offered by “anti-capitalists.” Like, Squid Game Funko Pop is ironic sure, but let’s not kid ourselves and pretend that Squid Game ever represented a serious challenge to the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. I've been reflecting for a while on why "anyone can do what they want forever" rubbed me the wrong way so strongly when I first saw it and I think the answer has to do with Rachel Dolezal.

People who were in the trans community at the time were forced to wrestle with someone who had a bad idea of who she wants to be and what her identity is and what makes us different from that. A modern politics rooted in slogans might have someone say "policing anyone's gender/identity is wrong" but, after directly confronting and being compared to lifestyle blackface and deciding that what I do as a trans woman is different and worth doing: I do think people's identities and modes of expression are worth analyzing and criticizing.

There's a phenomenon in left-wing circles where initially reasonable statements and concepts get repeated ad nauseum until they not only lose their meaning but transform into deeply bigoted ideas.

The idea "there is no single white culture," is true because white is a concept created to describe the powerful position in Western societies. There are many different cultures, who's members are often white. But this idea became "white people have no culture" which is just not true, deeply dehumanizing, and harmful, especially to people who look white but experience marginalization because of their culture.

Another example might be cultural appropriation, which perhaps should be understood as a misrepresentation or exploitation of the cultural practices of another, especially where the person exploiting does so for personal gain, without acknowledgment. But now, people have basically transformed this into "when somebody does something from a culture they weren't raised in" or "when a particular race or ethnicity behaves in a way that's different from how they normally do" which promotes racial and cultural stereotypes and attempts to control the behaviors of people based on their race, ethnicity, and culture.

Nah I think most of them are legit honestly. Most of them are people with internalized transphobia. A person detransitioning despite being dysphoric will often adopt an ideology that allows them to justify their decision, especially if they want to regain the acceptance of family or are from a right-wing environment/have other right-wing beliefs.

They're a very very loud minority given that they've been radicalized into a hate group that they're going to leave in a few months to get back on t again. Some even take it secretly like "ex-gay" people who get caught on Grindr. They spend their time online talking about their transphobic beliefs because it's the only outlet for their extreme misery.

Believe me I've known some of these idiots personally and they're unfortunately very real. Most TERF blogs aren't ran by detransitioners ime but there's definitely a good proportion on Tumblr for the same reason there's a lot of transmasculine people on Tumblr: they're the same group just with different ideologies.

Think about it! Trans people are a small minority of humanity. Detransitioners are an even smaller minority within that. The majority of detransitioners do so cuz of safety and money, not because they weren't actually trans. People detransitioning cuz they arent trans is so incredibly rare. So a rare minority of a rare minority of a minority. And yet somehow almost every terf blog is a detransitioner? It can't be real. It's so convenient to the bigots that all these "detransitioners" would just agree with them! Statistically speaking, it just can not be true.

They are lying. The majority of "detransitioners" on this site are lying.

They did not actually transition medically. They identified as trans and realized later they weren't trans. They never pursued a medical transition through hrt but use this previous experience to claim they "detransitioned" even though they never "transitioned" with hrt.

Even in the really really rare case of a legit detransitioned terf, their ideology is wrong. Bigotry isn't suddenly chill cuz you realized you weren't lgbt/trans.

If someone who isn't a terf claims to be a detransitioner, I'm more than willing to take them seriously with no extra. But, the fact that every other trans woman hating rad fem is supposedly "detransitioned" it can't be true. It's literally impossible. I'm always skeptical of terf "detransitioners" cuz they are liars.

These people also just don't understand Latino communities at all evidently. A Cuban American Republican voter who came here legally and has citizenship isn't going to care if an undocumented Guatemalan gets deported.

Extremely ironic how the liberals on twitter talking about calling ICE on the undocumented family members of immigrants who didn't vote/voted third party/voted for trump because they blame them for Harris losing are accidentally demonstrating how little material difference there actually is for immigrants when it comes to a republican on democrat presidency.

Like. Trump hasn't even been sworn in yet. He's made zero changes to any currently existent policies from the Biden administration. Biden is the one in power right now. And yet, under the current administration (one that campaigned heavily on opposing Trump's anti-immigration rhethoric) all it takes for you to get these people deported and ruin their lives forever is one call? 🤨

Even setting aside how much of a fascist mask-off moment this is, you're not exactly making a strong case for how voting for the Democrats again would have been in their best interest (besides "if you don't vote for them I'll calle ICE on your family and ruin their life forever", ig)
