"It's not that I don't want to. It's just a very long and confusing story - and I'm not the best storyteller." She tried to remember one of the songs Leliana wrote about it, but the only thing that came to mind was the tune. She smiled and reached out to take some grapes from Tav. "Fereldan. Well, Thedas. It's-" she waved her hand in the air. "-a very very very long away away. Across several seas and oceans-" and maybe even more. Eloren's journey to Faerun was filled with very bizzare twists and turns.
She hoped she'd be able to go back home. Preferably without tentacles.
"Its very different to here. Similar. But different. Like magic. Back home it's more... restricted who can learn it." Eloren mused. She knew several people who would faint on the spot when if they saw how magic was just so... everyday! People could practise Magic without fear of imprisonment or worse. Gods she wished Morrigan and Anders could see this. "Elves are taller here. That's something I noticed too."
TAV LET the silence dangle in the air for a moment as they processed what the other said. They nodded slowly before clicking their tongue.
"... Right. Of course. You should tell me that story sometime. No pressure if you don't want to yet, though. I reckon we've got plenty of time to warm-up to it. 'Cause I guess we're sort of stuck together. Or probably should be. Because of the worms. Tadpoles. Whatever."
Tav stands up, silently offering some grapes to Eloren. "Seriously though, that sounds like a good story you have. I'm quite fond of stories, but I haven't heard of that one before. Then again, I suppose my knowledge is only limited to that from Baldur's Gate. Where did you say you were from again?"

I’ve never believed in destiny. No, the stars never whispered my name, my future. I grabbed my own fate with two hungry hands, pulling and pushing and molding my life, leaving smudges and dirty fingerprints all over a once clean soul. My mistakes belong entirely to me. No, the stars never mapped out a path for me to follow, never planned my downfalls, my triumphs. I RULE THE STARS, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! I take their dust and inject it in my veins; I breathe in their light as I live, I live, I live!!

Zevran: I am hardly the person to lecture on the worthier points of human nature, but surely this is a fine time to display the oft-lauded virtue known as mercy?
Zevran: I deserved to die, and you spared me. Why are you so quick to condemn these mages?
Warden: You’re a lot better-looking than most of the mages.
Zevran: Why, thank you. Flattery would normally distract me, but not today. Inconvenient, no?
Warden: You’re saying I made a mistake sparing you?
Zevran: (Nervous laughter) Perhaps. But you did it nevertheless, no?
Warden: Magic and knives are different.
Zevran: Magic can kill. Knives can kill. Even small children launched at great speed could kill.
Zevran: Why single out the wielders of one and not the others?
Warden: Mages can do more damage with one spell than you ever could.
Zevran: Mm. Touché.
Zevran: I’ve taken the lives of many throughout my career, but this is no measured act. There is no chase, no hunt, no dignity in this… there is only slaughter.
Warden: What about the people they might slaughter?
Zevran: Might, not will. Committing genocide just because something might happen is more than the mark of a weak mind. It is insanity.
Warden: Zevran, you’re a hypocrite.
Zevran: Perhaps I am at that, and a thief and a murderer as well. But I looked my victims in the face.

"Oh gods no-" hands are raised in mock playful (but with a dash of seriousness) alarm. "You don't want me anywhere near your head with sharp objects. Unless you want me to chop your head off. Which might be a solution to the worm but the survival rate is preeeetty low." there's a pause as she hops from one stone on the road to another. "It wasn't THAT kind of plague anyway. I stopped it by killing a dragon. Undead dragon. Technically an old god who was a dragon who was... undead." another pause. "It's a long story."
@wardenduty liked this for a starter
TAV CAUGHT another grape in her mouth, relishing in feeling it pop between her teeth. She'd found this bunch in the pack of some rotting cadaver a ways off the road. Poor sod.
Amidst relishing her good fortune, she'd been eyeing her companion almost suspiciously. Well - not really suspiciously. It was mostly intrigue disguised as a playful dash of suspicion.
Tav addressed the Warden around the newest grape to enter her maw, "So... Y' stopped a plague before, right? Figure you can get the worms outta our heads 'f I scrounge up a surgery kit fr' you?"

"I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't want to go back before we had an unwelcome passenger in our heads." she's sitting up on a table, legs swinging as she looked over their camp before flicking her gaze to eve. How far back would she go though, that's the question. To just before the mindflayers? Delay going to the city for a few days? Maybe, but her luck stands she would have gotten dragged into this anyway. At least this way she has allies - and free will. What about before leaving home? Before becoming Warden-Commander? To the Blight? It's almost laughable about how the Blight seems like the simplest part of her life these days.
"It's me. I'm your bad luck charm, disaster follows me wherever I go." she said, corner of her lips pulled up into a smile. It's a joke. Mostly. "I know what you mean though. The uncertainty. At least with the past we have hindsight. Maybe I won't go to the city. Maybe I won't touch the mirror." she pauses. "Who knows, maybe in another ten years you'll be looking back upon this adventure wishing you were back in the simpler times." If they survive that long, that is.
@wardenduty liked this for a starter!
"Do you ever wish that you could go back?" Eve found herself pondering out loud, knowing full well that Mahariel was right near her at the moment.
There were few things that Eve tended to try to pry out of the people that had joined them on this quest to get rid of the tadpoles, but there were times she just felt Mahariel would UNDERSTAND on some level what she meant. Her past was not without things she wished not to relive, but now? Things just seemed so utterly heavy that she wished things could be more certain.
"I'm not saying the PAST was better, but I knew better what to expect," Eve continued, shaking her head a little bit. "Can't help but wonder what we might have done to be so spectacularly unlucky in our plight..."

"I'm not saying that I'm GOING TO - but on a scale of one to ten, how mad do you think Morrigan would be if I put spiders in her bedroll? She can turn INTO a spider, so - would she consider them like friends?" a pause. "And how likely do you think I could get away with pinning the blame on Alistair?"

been Thinking about warden mahariel going on the search for a cure to the Calling
every warden/origin is going for their friends, their found family, their lover, etc but a Mahariel is also going for themselves. Yes the others are too but for Mahariel there’s a different kind of selfishness behind it— because they were tainted. They know what it’s like. They know what awaits a warden going to their calling better than anyone else. Mahariel is searching for a cure for their own sake as much as any other reason.
Mahariel, who was on the edge of death and madness, the taint this close to taking them. Mahariel, who lived only by sheer chance of Duncan being there to recruit them. Mahariel, who watched the taint take Tamlen and destroy their closest clan mate. Mahariel, who didn’t just go through all the horrors of the darkspawn and the archdemon and the broodmothers, but who had also been tainted and stared corruption straight in the face, balanced on a ledge a hairsbreadth away from it.
Mahariel is looking for a cure to the calling because they’re fucking terrified.
#yes yes yes yes yes thank you#this put to words what i've been trying to say#⚔ musings // why can't the dead stay in the ground where they belong

INQUISITION PARTY BANTER * assorted dialogue from dragon age inquisition
you... actually look like that?
thank you for remembering. sometimes people forget me.
it's interesting watching you. the way you carry yourself when you use magic.
why are you so angry at your father? he wants to help and you know he does.
no one needs to see my arse.
you're set on being sad forever.
remember, do not use it like a sword.
i'd just eat the cheese.
always knew you were up to something.
you didn't always have a beard.
sometimes love isn't enough.
there were so many wonderful hats.
you're happier now, [name].
you have so many feelings.
i am uncertain whether to believe you.
the world doesn't make sense to them. it's too real.
you're right about that. they would.
do you need to eat? or sleep?
you would stop it if you could.
i can't tug it loose without tearing it.
stop. it isn't about you.
i believe i can work with that.
you have other things to carry.
you're serious, aren't you?
you let it keep hurting because you think hurting is who you are.
it is because you think you have to?
you ask a lot of questions, [name].
why be ashamed? power should be respected, not swept under the carpet.
i'll have to steal that one.
hey, when this is all done, if you ever need my help for anything, you just ask, all right?
maybe you're not a complete moron.
we were having a moment, and now you've ruined it.
i can't believe you drank that swill at the tavern.
i'm well aware you lied to me.
that is... remarkably decent of you.
i don't want to think about that right now.
you need a hairbrush.
when you charge at them, you make them hit you.
i'm curious about you. i had no idea something like you was possible.
how do you want to be remembered? valiant yet sexy rebel against the status quo?
it's not easy finding people willing to shoulder such a terrible responsibility.
it's not such a terrible thing. some of my best friends are murderers.
who's judging now?
i know your kind.
i know that what comes out of your mouth is the same drivel that comes out of theirs.
careful i don't club you on the head.
if i had something to say, i'd say it.
if we're going to fight at each other's side, we need to get along.
enough, both of you.
you said i could ask you questions.
how do you get your hair to do that?
do you think we could ever be friends?
killing him won't make anything better.
if you really cared, you could ask.
you caught the eye of a young woman in that last village.
i just need to know you're capable of higher thought. for my own comfort.
i question your reasons for being here.
my reasons for being here are the same as yours.
i think that's the first time i've heard you admit anything is complicated.
what made you change your mind?
i will try to be more like you.
you should learn to watch your back.
i mean. could be naked more. that'd be better.
beardy people are supposed to be jolly.
why are you complaining?
you're smirking again.
right, here we go. what is it from you?
there is no need to tell anyone that.
does yelling while we're walking around count?
stop pointing that at me!
you need a drink or something, you tell me.
