WAR AGAINST WEAKNESS - January Challenge
1.) Lift weights and make your body strong.
We will start the new year off from a strong position, by improving our overall strength and conditioning.
If you already go to the gym, great, grab a piece of paper and a pen and jot down two areas you need to improve in.
Don't do cardio? Start rowing.
Can't press your enemies into the local bog? Grab a barbell and throw it overhead.
Don't remember your last leg day? Now you're just asking for it.
If you don't go to the gym, let's start!
There are plenty of cheap gym options if money is a limiting factor. If for any reason you can't afford or don't have access to a gym shoot me an email on our "Contact Us" page.
If you have access to a gym but lack direction, a great place to start is by finding a gym partner. Hopefully they have more knowledge than you, but if not - never fear; You can find a free downloadable weightlifting program in our "Resources" page.
Youtube is a great resource for learning proper form and technique for new lifters. Youtuber Omar Isuf has some great videos on how to properly perform the big lifts. If you've found a friend to go to the gym with sit down with them and watch the videos. That way you both can help tweak each others form as you learn.
2.) Make and save an additional $100 through cutting out poor spending habits, selling old material objects, or through a side business.
Money makes the world go round. It's how we leverage the world to work with us.
This month you will go through all subscriptions, bills, and other spending and cut what no longer gives you value.
The same will be done with material goods throughout the home. Have an old guitar you never play? Sell it to someone who will.
Finally, if you wish to avoid cutting your Netflix subscription, here's the best option:
Go out and make more money.
There's nothing like the ol' buy low, sell high method. As a kid you may have even employed the same strategies playing games like Runescape, or World of Warcraft. Now as adults we can play the same game, but instead, our town square is garage sales, auctions, online marketplaces, or really wherever people sell things.
If manual labor is more your cup of tea, go out and shovel driveways (or cut grass). $20 bucks a pop and you'll have yourself that extra $100 in a day.
Have a creative side? Start selling your artwork, or better yet start teaching others how to get better.
Once you have that $100, put it aside. We'll need that for next months challenge.
Keep in mind, it doesn't have to stop with $100.
3.) Perform a new-year ritual, dedicated to sacrificing yourself to a higher and better version of yourself.
Focus is everything when it comes to meeting goals, and ritual is the master at refocusing your attention.
The tale of Odin, sacrificing himself to himself on Yggdrasil, has always been one that's stuck with me. If you want to become something in this world, it requires sacrifice. Sacrifice of your time, money, effort, and certainly that Netflix account.
"What I do today will have a direct result on where I am tomorrow."
You must choose, everyday, the actions that will further your purpose and goals. However, in the modern world there are distractions around every corner.
That is where ritual comes in.
Ritual has the amazing ability to refocus, and ground a person. Every culture has had or still has ritual in some shape or form.
I'm not going to tell you how to perform this ritual, I'm only going to give you a purpose going into it.
You should focus on the person you wish to become.
Think about all of the steps that will lead you to becoming that person.
Meditate on which negative attributes and habits you will have to discard to make room for this new personal growth.
Finally, think about what would be possible if you accomplished what you set out to become?
Remember how this ritual makes you feel.
You can use this feeling whenever you get off track. Use it like a way-point keeping you on your path in a blinding snowstorm.
