stares right into the void i honestly need to say it bc jkr makes me very mad with her ,,, everything but re : the ‘ baron ’ & helena — athelstan did not kill helena because she rejected his advances . 

their duel was literally from a very intense argument because guess what stan’s heir apparent , he LITERALLY is in line to RULE ENGLAND & because he CARES !!!! about rowena as someone he highly respects & because he CARES !!! about helena , who he may have been in love with but was ok with being rejected by , he went ... all the way ... to albania ... to try to convince helena to give the diadem back to her mother who was DYING . & helena said no . 

now , stan’s relationship with his mother & sisters wasn’t great , he only left shit to his younger brother when he died , but boy there was a part of him that was like ... he saw a lot of his own stubborn nature in that & honestly it wasn’t that he liked being distant from the women in his family , but ... he’s also stubborn so clearly that wasn’t resolved but he thought maybe helena could fix whatever was going on between her & her mother 

& she basically told him to fuck off . which uh . did not help ANYTHING at all . so they got in a fight & at first it was just words & then it was spells & swords & of course he regrets it , he should’ve just gone back to rowena & explained as best he could , because boy if he’d done that , maybe helena would’ve lived . maybe she would’ve gotten her head out of her ass & ditched the diadem , because he always thought she was brilliant , she didn’t need that thing , maybe he’d be alive . maybe he would’ve had a better relationship with his mother & sisters , because maybe he would’ve patched things up , but no . they both died & not right away either . 

he doesn’t expect helena to forgive him , & it’s been like a thousand years & he honestly knows that maybe they’ll both move on if they just find closure , & he’s starting to think that no closure might be the only closure he’ll ever get , so it’s like a path to acceptance of both of their mistakes , which he thinks will help him finally pass on .

ATHELSTAN , CROWN PRINCE OF THE KINGDOM OF ENGLAND 

( vague history with a new magic spin ) 

born in 983 , athelstan of the house of wessex was heir apparent to the kingdom of england . the oldest son of aethelred the unready , athelstan was disant from almost all of his younger siblings & his mother , favoring his brother edmund & adoring his grandmother . possessing powerful magic , athelstan was kept away from the family if he wasn’t studying at the then newly founded hogwarts school . 

a star student of salazar slytherin , athelstan never used a wand , but instead trained with the irish high king to channel his magic through his body as a whole . the tactic gave him the greatest use of his magic , but took a toll on his heart , eventually causing palpations & dizzy spells . it was salazar who taught athelstan how to fight , & from that he made a name as a warrior prince . 

in the year 1012 , athelstan took notice of helena ravenclaw . she was one of few people not of royal blood even remotely close to his age who treated him as ‘ anyone else ’ rather than a prince to grovel before . for that , he grew to adore her . helena rejected athelstan’s multiple romantic advances — which is not what made him so angry . he was happy to remain her friend .

despite this , it didn’t change his feelings for her , & at the request of rowena , athelstan set out to find helena , who had fled with her mother’s diadem . in june of 1014 , athelstan did find helena , asking her to return with him so that she could return her mother’s diadem . the two fought , resulting in athelstan stabbing helena . horrified , he did his best to heal her — apparating with her in his arms back to his castle in west sussex , where he tended to her for four days before she succumbed to her wound . in a deep despair , athelstan took his own life not but hours after helena passed . the two returned to hogwarts as ghosts together . 

the diadem was left where helena & athelstan fought . a forest in albania .

which means in all logic , if he was nobility he was probably ROYALTY , as many kingdoms was a THING back then u kno . he very well may have been a prince .

          he had not been raised in the world of magic, only standing beside it. it had been salazar that pulled him fully into magic, but before that it had been well established that godric was a warrior. for his sons, though? godric had always been intent on letting them decide their own paths. and all three of them had made him proud beyond measure. ‘ i have a gift for you, ‘ he said as he approached his eldest, holding a long rectangular box.

godric the brave had always been his idol — but , that was natural for a son , was it not ? for the firstborn to wish to live up to the family name , for in truth , he was antioch gryffindor . oh , the smile upon his face is bright , blue eyes almost sparkling ! yes , he knew his father was proud of him . proud of his brothers . for they worked hard to follow the paths they believed were right — & now ... 

❛ a gift ... ❜ laughter nigh bubbles over , excitement impossible to contain — ❛ is it for making it to my last year of schooling ? ❜ because the journey has been long & strenuous , the world around them full of peril — at hogwarts , they were safe , but there was so much in the world beyond . & come the end of the year , antioch would be out in the world . a new adventure , although in his heart he knew his father would worry . that was , after all , the job of a father . ❛ i think i should be the one giving you gifts — it’s because of your guidance that i’ve made it this far , that we all have — ❜

OBLIGATORY POST ABOUT THE ELDER WAND TO FOLLOW UP ON THE ANTIOCH POST ! 

the elder wand , named such for being exactly what’s on the label . a wand of elder wood , it has a thestral tail hair core . this is death’s wand . there is a controversy about whether or not antioch actually made the wand . he didn’t . however , he did make a wand of yew & thestral tail hair , which was death’s challenge to him . 

death never just handed out gifts . while antioch did ask for a wand that would give him the power to protect his family & to strike down those who would wish them harm , death essentially said ‘ make one yourself ’ . so , antioch made the yew - thestral tail hair wand . death bestowed the elder wand to antioch as a gift . until the violent battle with the wizard who had once attacked ignotus , antioch used the yew wand if he used a wand at all . he kept the elder wand on his person . 

it seems that the elder wand functions much like antioch’s wands , bringing out the full power a person possesses , even if it is not being actively used ( however , very few people could bring out the wand’s full potential , with antioch & albus dumbledore being the only wielders who ever managed ) . this made many covet it . greedy individuals believed antioch to be unworthy of it , if he never used it . 

a person who uses the elder wand out of selfish greed or desire for power will die within a month of casting the first spell , as the wand will backfire on them . antioch did not die because of the elder wand , he died because he was murdered , the wand had no part in that , another vengeful wizard did .

ANTIOCH PEVERELL , SOME INFO . 

the oldest son of godric gryffindor , a descendent of england’s most powerful giant clan — antioch peverell proudly held the title of ‘ heir of gryffindor ’ . of course , tutored by his own father , he proved to be an incredibly capable swordsman , although he also quickly showed that much like a lion , he was a little too prideful for his own good . distant from most people outside his family , he was seen as an unreachable paragon of gryffindor house by his classmates . 

at the age of fourteen , antioch developed an interest in wandlore , taking a summer apprenticeship with the famous ollivander family . antioch’s wands were sturdy & powerful . he learned to utilize rare cores & to combine them with the perfect wood to make for a wand that would bring out the best in the witch or wizard it chose . antioch’s wands are still in existence , they sit in ollivander’s shop . very rarely , if a wizard or witch is not matched with a wand made by ollivander , he will try one of antioch’s wands . there is a gorgeous yew wand that sits on display at ollivander’s , it is the only other wand in existence that has a thestral tail hair as a core . this wand became antioch’s wand , which will be discussed in a different post . 

antioch had no wand of his own prior to the elder wand . instead , he was known for channeling his magic through weaponry , be it his father’s sword or his own . watching him duel another wizard or witch was a sight to behold . he was incredibly skilled at nonverbal magic . 

antioch’s patronus was a grizzly bear . strong & a protector , but also capable of being very vicious , associated with his own personality . family oriented , but competitive & rough around the edges . 

antioch died after a violent battle with another wizard who had once attacked ignotus ( & yes , antioch holds grudges ) . antioch killed his opponent with the elder wand , saying that the same fate would meet anyone else who dared to challenge him or lay a hand on his family . the brother of the ( now deceased ) wizard killed antioch while he slept , stealing the elder wand . 

antioch was buried in godric’s hollow by his distraught father & mother . instead of becoming a ghost , his soul was revived to be the embodiment of war . a curse that death had placed on him without his knowledge . it is said that the side that antioch favors will win a war , so many have tried to earn his favor in times of strife . antioch had made a visit to godric’s hollow the night before voldemort was defeated for the first time . he wished to bestow a blessing on his youngest brother’s descendant , harry potter . 

beedle the bard made antioch out to be a villain . this was untrue . antioch’s rage was terrible to be at the receiving end of , but in the end , he desired power to protect his loved ones .

yknow if i had time i’d literally sit & tolkien style my way thru dragontongue like i feel like i SHOULD at some point in my life bc im just … it is its own language , like i know jkr decided parseltongue was just a bunch of hissing but no im sorry that’s not even how that should work like ??? by no means am i the world’s greatest expert on linguistics , but i guess the rundown i have is ??? 

there’s a parent language to dragontongue , but no one knows what it is . dragontongue evolved on its own to be like a regional thing , so salazar’s version of dragontongue resembles the dragontongue spoken by like … welsh greens & hebridean blacks , & he can at least gather most of the things hungarian horntails , sweedish shortsnouts , or ukranian ironbellies say to him , but good gods if he ever tried to converse with a chinese fireball they’d both just be ???¿¿¿??? at each other . 

so , similarly , any derivative languages of dragontongue fall under the same principles . a lot of languages that are under the dragontongue umbrella are also influenced by other languages around them , so fun fact don’t call someone a parselmouth or ‘ they speak parseltongue ’  in front of a dragon or a serpent because that’s not what they call the language . most commonly , regardless of which dialect of dragontongue the resulting language comes from , the dragons & serpents call what wizards & witches call parseltongue ‘ draconic creole ’ .

ok i gotta bulletpoint this bc i otherwise will be So Scattered i don’t have the focus to go all out on this but uhHHH 

salazar is noted by the other founders to have wiped out a LOT of people ( adults , 18+ , thank the gods godric reinforced that children need to learn & should not be judged so harshly ) whose hearts he deemed impure . he would be found covered in blood devouring hearts because dragons are so STRANGE … 

the founders knew about the chamber of secrets , defense against the dark arts was held down there , godric & salazar would spar down there , so the castle itself wouldn’t take damage ?? it was a great idea

tHEY KNEW ABOUT THE BASILISK , TOO . what they didn’t anticipate was tom m riddle in the future being a rat bastard & trying to kill muggleborns . salazar had intended to have the basilisk serve as judgement when he was no longer around . the other founders were in fact taught commands in case the basilisk decided to try to do things . 

sal might be lawful evil but that sure looks like lawful good when he’s focused on something he truly values , so it’s not like he was always a rat bastard himself , he has the capacity to love , he loves so deeply & can’t fathom people who lack the capability to do so
