My surgeon came out and told my mom and brother on Tuesday that I’d be down and out for about two weeks.
My brother: TWO WEEKS? Holy shit.
Surgeon: Well, consider this. She and I just had a knife fight. And I won. Because she was asleep during it.
My brother: Oh. Yeah, okay, that’s fair.

The 2nd Amendment is no longer the right to bear arms. The 2nd Amendment has become the right to take lives. The 2nd Amendment is no longer aiding citizens. The 2nd Amendment is now abetting murderers.
When the laws don’t work, the laws must change.

Pictured: my 11-year-old cat, Buffy, and some of her medical bills over the past month. Not pictured: $80+ in special food, $40 for a three-day dose of painkillers, and $20 for calming cat pheromones.
Long post concerning animal health ahead.
My move to Boston at the end of March went very well. I had money saved up, with help from my old security deposit and the sale of my briefly-owned used car. I found a part-time job within two weeks, and am taking steps toward getting a better full-time job within the next month. I have housing secured, no longer have car payments or repairs, and even have health insurance.
The only trouble has been with Buffy. She just turned 11, has had at least four owners, and has moved at least 8 times with no issues or medical problems, including twice in the past two years. She’s the most relaxed and friendly cat anyone’s ever met. On April 7th, she started showing symptoms of what looked like a UTI–frequently using the litter box with no result, then leaving spots of urine with blood around the house–and I rushed her to another vet with later hours. $345 later, she had fluids and painkillers, had her blood and urine tested, and was put on a 10-day dose of antibiotics. It seemed to help, but two days after the dose ran out, on April the same symptoms occurred. Another $240 for another test and exam (with pity discounts), and another 10-day round of antibiotics. That helped a lot more, until May 3rd, when it happened again. This time the vet took an x-ray, which turned up nothing, and again dosed her with painkillers and diagnosed it as cystitis, prescribing her with a special diet for urinary care and stress relief.
On May 10th, after a week on the special food, when the symptoms occurred again, the vet gave me a 3-day dose of painkillers and said it just needed to be waited out. Same on the morning of the 14th, when her symptoms came back again, and this time I made an appointment with the first vet, asking what else could be done to make sure the diagnosis was correct. They’re recommending a full urinology and urine culture at her appointment tomorrow, which would cost $300, and if that turns up nothing, an ultrasound would be the next step, at another $300. I was considering waiting it out instead, but the symptoms made another appearance tonight, so I guess I don’t have a choice.
After spending over a thousand dollars of what was supposed to be a comfortable living fund until I was fully established, I’m at my wit’s end. If this is a fixable problem, I obviously want to fix it. If it’s not, I need to know that as well so I can plan accordingly. What I can’t do is let Buffy be in pain while I wait for the cystitis treatment to work. Even if the cystitis diagnosis is correct, having her be on painkillers for a month will also be expensive.
I hate asking for help, especially financially, but while I was ready for moving, I wasn’t ready for this. My PayPal is here, and honestly, anything at all would help me be able to get Buffy taken care of while also paying for my own food, transportation, student loans, and rent.

This is only the second time I have ever seen a pink grasshopper, and the first time I’ve ever gotten a photo of one.
The pink color is caused by a recessive gene similar to the one that causes albinism. It was hopping around on a hill at Curecanti National Recreation Area, June 2014.
