I had a lucid dream last night.

I went back to our old home for a visit.

Not sure how I got there.

But when have I ever been sure how I got anywhere?

The family that lived there now greeted me friendly and let me look around.

I found it odd that they never redecorated.

I talk to them. A normal family. I met their son, a silent child.

At the end of the tour, I gazed out the window to take in the sunset.

Pink and baby blue striped the sky interlade with thin clouds that don't rain enough.

The family stood in the corner of the room between our desks where the lamp still was.

Their gaze made me feel it was time to leave.

I became turned around now squatting for some reason.

But I wanted to get one last look of the view.

I turn again, and there you are, a silhouette in the sunset.

I'm stunned but push to break the silence with what I can only guess was gibberish.

And to my surprise you respond.

You say "Hi".

You say my name.

And I don't know where the conversation will go but I can see on your face that you know just how sorry I am.

We look at each other for a bit.

And then I wake up.

Idk man the holidays really just stand as a time where I'm hyper-aware of the people no longer in my life
