Pretty heavily implied Wan/Raava (obviously, it's me). notes: OKAY okay...listen. i watched the book 2 finale for the first time in YEARS yesterday during a tattoo appointment, which only mildly numbed the pain (of the finale). today, i opened google docs to work on chapter 5 of claw machine, then classic twilight soundtrack banger A Thousand Years by Christina Perri came on autoplay, i lost my mind for a little bit, and when i came to, we had this. i'm so sad bro. 11 years, and there are some wounds time will never heal...waava week is not over for me

It’s tendrils of iridescent white smashing against rock and Korra is reaching, but she can’t reach far enough, and every strike brings new pain.

It’s faces. There are faces. 

There are faces she knows, and faces only Raava knows. She is seeing through Raava’s eyes instead of Raava through hers. 

Aang. Roku. Kyoshi. Kuruk. All of them her, all of them lined up, all of them burning. 

She’s feeling what Raava feels. 

They burn faster and faster, and all Korra hears inside of her own head is Raava’s voice, Raava’s pain, Raava’s screams . 

Then there is Wan. Only Wan. 

They see him longer than the rest and on a nightmarish loop, Korra feels her beg—

Please let me keep this one—please, please, please, let me just keep this one, not him, please—

He burns. 

There is only black.

In the twilight of the setting sun, Wan walks across the barren ground of the clifftop, calm ocean waters shimmering beneath him. The sky was a blend of blue and yellowed-orange, and as he turns about the flattened earth, he catches the shine of the light fading against the horizon. Salt air fills his lungs, and he feels a sense peace.

With this, he goes through the motions.

Summary: Maybe it's the way he looks at her in reverence and holds the lighter for her as she takes the first breath that makes her unusually willing to compromise her own control. / or, Raava gets high for the first time and Wan is just lucky to be here. metalbanders au.

Notes: a day late but we proceed!! i had a whole plan for a different update using "fairy tale" instead, but then this kinda ran away from me and I realized it could perfectly go for dragon & not disrupt the flow I had going too much. so...I did have a plan for fairy tale. and it will be chapter 4 instead & this takes place exactly where reverse left off :')

Wan follows a few steps behind as Raava leads him inside and up the stairs to her bedroom. He tries to keep up, but keeps getting distracted. 

The house is nice . Or at least, way nicer than what he’s used to. Although that’s not much of a comparison, all things considered. Yao barely makes enough to get by on his own, let alone for the three of them. He relies heavily on the government fostering checks he’s still managing to cash in for them. That’s the one thing Wan dreads about turning eighteen, and why he’ll always jump at double shifts for the Oasis Cafe. 

“Are you coming?”

He stops, looking up the stairs to see Raava waiting with a hand on her hip. 

“Sorry,” Wan laughs. He realizes he’s been stuck staring at a series of picture frames on the white wall beside him. There aren’t many anywhere else—just clean, unwelcoming white mostly. He nods to one of the photos and asks, “this you?”

Wan is two weeks into the first semester at his new school--though of course, his first semester is everyone else’s second. Why Yao thought it would be a good idea to move back to this shithole village and make them jump ship mid-school year is anyone’s guess.

If there’s anything Wan is good at by seventeen, it’s rolling with the punches.

This time, he’s just grateful everything else is still the same. His hometown, somewhere else, and back again—the where doesn’t matter; as long as it’s still him, Jaya, and Yao, then that’s good enough for him. He’ll take whatever else comes along with it.

So he’s two weeks in, and already—

“Wan!” comes a boisterous, albeit already a bit slurred, voice from across the yard.

Wan turns his head to see the girl coming towards him with eager eyes. It still strikes him with surprise that for once, a classmate is actually happy to see him.

“You came!” the girl cheers and punches him in the shoulder with an unexpected amount of force.

“Fucking hell, Korra,” he swears in surprise, rubbing the incoming bruise. “Is that how you say hi to everyone?”

“If you’re lucky,” Korra shrugs casually. “And we’re friends now, so that means you gotta deal with it.”
