Title: Battleships 1914-1918 (Silent)
Reference: The Naval Career of Walter Edward Carlton, page 13 Grandad was on the USS Tennessee, ACR-10. I’m not sure if his ship is one of the ones seen in this clip but it would look very much like the ships you do see here.

Title: Shooting the M1917 Lewis Gun. (Ambient sounds)
Reference: The Naval Career of Walter Edward Carlton, page 47 This is the type of gun that Grandad is pictured firing on that page.
The Lewis gun could fire up to 600 rounds per minute and held up to 97 .30-06 rounds. Its weight of 28 lbs made it very portable. It was used by US military in both WW1 & WW2.

Title: Starting up the old Liberty 12a V-12 engine at Old Rhinebeck (Ambient sounds)
Reference: The Naval Career of Walter Edward Carlton, page 55 This is the engine that powered the HS-2L’s that Grandad flew.
The Liberty engine was a 1,649 cubic inch, water-cooled, V-12 aircraft engine capable of 400 horsepower. There should be a radiator behind the propeller.
