The lost child almost doesn't see the would-be savior's gesture of kindness. They would have missed it completely had the latter not struggled in Sans' hold to sign their sympathies at them. In a gesture that would have been unheard of just mere months ago, Chara places a careful, yet still chilling, hand on the child's shoulder. Though the contact is brief it still speaks volumes where the spirit cannot.
The contact lasts but a moment before they're a distance away once more, attempting to re-solidify their resolve before they're forced to move once again. They stare at the door once more, and a small pang of yearning sweeps through them before they turn to face the grey horizon, face some indescribable amalgum of emotions. This was their choice, just like everything else was, and they were going to see this through to the end.
Even if all they wanted to do was savor the warmth of being embraced by their loved ones, even if all they wanted to do was go back to those shitty days where, though resets loomed in the not so distant horizon, they still had people who knew them and loved them and. . .Well, that wasn't quite fair. There was still the guide, trapped in the void as he was, who they loved very much and the plethora of other lost souls, though one in particular came to mind, that they didn't entirely hate. But the feeling remained. No matter how much they reminded themselves they still had or how good the times before were, they missed their home.
And home wasn't just a huge castle in a city, or a small cottage in the ruins. Home was Toriel's pie, and Asgore's garden, and bed time stories that were much too fun and exciting to put anyone to sleep. Home was Asriel, kind and strong, and willing to do whatever he could and yet somehow managed to not be a doormat. Home was a weird scientist with grey morals and his two sons, all different and interesting in their own ways; Papyrus with his exuberance and patience and willingness to try anything.
Home was Sans; A friend, a beacon, and a pillar. Someone who held you up and reminded you what was important, even when you felt you were breaking into something awful. A constant in an otherwise maddening life sentence of rewinds. Home was all of these things and more.
And home was gone.
Your reaction actually startled you a bit. And you don’t know why you even reacted like you did. It didn’t make any sense to you.
You laughed.

The Greek Godly Parent Quiz!!
Tagged By: @mrpunnybones Tagging: @puzzlingrecalibrations @senseofhumerus @guardsruins @gasteritis @octavuscadere @huesofjadeharley @legendaryfiiend @madomadotsuki
Your godly parent is Poseidon, Stormbringer, Earthshaker and Lord of the Oceans.
Children of Poseidon display similar qualities to those of Zeus, including pride and stubbornness but are more in control of their emotions, making them reasonable in nature. You place high value on those you care about and will go to extremes to help them out. Your greatest strength and weakness is your devotion to those closest to you. Children of Poseidon are generally calm and easy to get along with, which lulls people into a sense of comfort with them. However, being influenced by the never-still ocean, unpredictability should be your middle name, and when provoked, you can unleash rage that you might not even be able to control. Children of Poseidon, unlike those of Zeus, are driven not by law and duty, but by emotional attachments instead, not pausing to judge the consequences of their actions until it's too late. Some demigods might be influenced by the thrilling nature of the power they possess and can lose their heads in it, usually requiring a calming external force to snap them out of it. Without a control factor, children of Poseidon may begin to crave destruction rather than stay balanced.
Qualities
Pride, loyalty, devotion, reason, leadership, humor, unpredictability, rage

Continued From Here:
When Chara's eye settle on the, very human, face staring back at them in vague distress they open their mouth, ready to shriek this persons brains out of their ears. But they started up their own noise of alarm first and that was the only thing that stopped the small void child from attempting to unleash hell. That voice was. . .eerily familiar. They squint from across the room before speaking up.
"You're. . ." A plethora of things, for certain, but they were also wearing Humerus' jacket. Which almost flips their rage switch until they notice the lack of dust and the familiarity of the soul crammed in the squishy flesh prison.
"Humerus?" There's a look of confusion and mild disgust on their face.

You wait, in the space between reality and void as the small human hopelessly searches through the snow for their skeleton friend. Well, even if he was here it's not like finding a bag of bones in a pile of snow was easy. Especially if they didn't want to be found. Rather than voice that, however, you merely look on before a small spike in magic, and the numbness of the void, shift you to high alert.
And though you're on high alert you don't do anything to stop the approaching figure. You know that magic. You know it, and it's weilder, well. And you absolutely know this kid is in no danger, even as a certain someone snuck up on your charge and englufed them in the shittiest hoodie for a half hug, half swooping action.
You watch with whatever you can muster as passive indifference as the heartfelt scene before you played. This was the right step, you knew that already. There was no point in wishing you could do the same, in hoping to hug your friend even once more. Your time is well passed.
And though wishing and hoping don't do much, the longing in your SOUL as you glance away from the reunited pair to the grand, but lonely, door is not something to be taken for granted.
You want to go home.
It’s them.
…
It’s them.
You’re not sure what else to think beyond that. Beyond that they’re here. Actually, there is one dawning realization that comes in barreling in after that. You realize that within these three months, you had no idea what the say to Frisk when they had come out. Then again, you were expecting it to be, like, say, a week, at best. After the first month, you should’ve thought that you should’ve had something beyond a “Hey, kiddo. Welcome back.” You had to have something else, right?

Chara is stiff, well as stiff as a projection of a soul can be, as the two of them stand before the final door. It's strange, the apprehensiveness they felt. On one hand this was a step in the right direction, a step toward getting this kid (and subsequiently their best friend) to safety. On the other. . .they didn't want to? Certainly they were going more than a bit stir crazy in the cozy little house in the Ruins but they just wanted. . . what did they want?
This entire time, the only thing they'd done was go with the flow, following other peoples ideas and whims. It frustrated them but that frustration left them feeling hollow. They'd chosen this path of their own volition for the ones they cared about. So, there was no point in stalling. In wanting what wasn't theirs.
This quiet resolve is the only thing that keeps them from completely abandoning this unstable quest as the child pushes the door open to the snowy wonder of their home. The revenant barely floats through the door, allowing it to close through, and behind them, as their ward wanders out and frantically searches for. . .
Oh.
You consider speaking, noting the distress on their face and some long untouched part of you considered comforting them. But you don't. You remain nearly motionless beside them, allowing them a moment of possible grief as they search for another person you have in common. Though, that he wasn't here for something so important surprised you.
Maybe he didn't care after all.
You wait outside the Ruins every day. You know you don’t have to, and part of you tells you that they’ll never come out. You wouldn’t have blamed them. Toriel would be good to them, you knew that much. But you missed them. Terribly so. It’s been months, but you still wait because you don’t want to give up.
You talked to the door a lot, even though you knew that no one was listening anymore. It made you feel better, though, so you didn’t see a reason to stop. Whenever you ran out of things to talk about, you found yourself singing instead.
And when you weren’t singing, you were pleading the door to open.
Today was different, though. You didn’t know it yet, but today, while you opted to take a nap outside the heavy doors, they creaked. The heavy door pressed against your back and that was probably the weirdest thing you ever experienced. And you’ve done some really weird shit in your life. It surprised you beyond belief to the point you zapped yourself away to appear on top of the arch of the door, afraid that the massive door was finally crumbling away and trying to fall on top of you.
That was, in fact, not what was happening. The heavy door was slow to open, and you just looked on in disbelief as the loud creaking slowed to a halt, and you were just holding your non-existent breath as you so hoped to the stars above that out of these huge doors would come your tiny, human child.

Three months.
Three months you'd been stuck in the ruins. Three months you'd been subjected to this child’s whims. Three months you'd had to watch them cozy up to your mom because if they died then your best friend would too and you couldn't have that.
But today. Today was different. You could feel it. When they woke up, earlier than usual, with a firm set to their young and normally gentle face, you knew. When they put on their favorite sweater from Toriel, you knew. When they approach your, shared, mother looking apprehensive but stalwart, you knew. When they paused at the top of the stairs, looking conflicted, you knew.
It was time.
As you venture to the end of the hall, you make your presence known to them after the former queen retreats to her home above, you take one glance back. As much as you wished you alone could stay, you knew it wasn't meant to be.
The door to the Ruins opens.

Alphys' lab is surprisingly busy today. Normally her timeline stays pretty dead, pun mostly not intended, so the surge in activity surprised you. However, rather than attempt to be social, you decide to stay invisible and explore for a bit.
That's when things go wrong.
You've distracted yourself by rifling through a huge stack of papers when your person and space are forcibly and rudely assaulted. This is awful! You weren't even doing anything and suddenly people are attacking you. This stinks! You just wanted to relax and maybe ask the scientist about some more of those movies she'd shown a while ago. It wasn't great but it was halfway decent enough to make you curious about more. But, nooooo. Life just had to hate you.
It's like one second you're minding your own business, completely intangible while waiting for your official unofficial science lizard to show up, and the next someone has yanked you into existence and into their arms. The continuous stream of shrieks you let out at this jarring experience are sure to ruin someones ears. Or at least give some fucked up headaches.
This is terrible and no one wants this. You're not going to stop struggling until something different happens. Or Alphys comes back.
@voidedcore
It was weird being outside of his timeline. Of his universe. Of his home. It was weird even thinking about the vast expansion of the multiverse and how many universes there where and how many timelines there were with only very minor changes here and there, and then the more drastic changes and-
Actually, Papyrus never really thought about it. He viewed everything as meeting new friends, just in their own homes. Meeting other Papyruses (Papyrii?) was maybe a little unsettling, but that was a-okay! Because they were also friends! Just weird self-friends!
However, sitting in an Alphys’ lab he was not well acquainted with while his brother went to see one of his self-friends was just a little strange. He didn’t mind, but the small lizard seemed to avoid him for some reason, so it was a little lonely. But wait! There is another small friend here! This one was different, though. He didn’t recognize them, not even as an alternate. Small, floating, a little translucent… Couldn’t be a ghost. Couldn’t be a human? Could humans fly?????
He’d have to ask Frisk later. This was suddenly very important.
Still, the skeleton approached the wandering child, as they seemed to either ignore him or just not have noticed yet. Not that they were to be blamed for that, since they seemed to be busy looking around for someone else. Maybe the Royal Scientist herself? Would make sense, seeing as this was her lab and all.
Well, obviously, the only course of events from here was to reach out and YOINK the see-through void child from the air and hug them relentlessly. Obviously. What could go wrong?
“I HAVE NOT SEEN YOU AROUND BEFORE!!” Papyrus shouted unnecessarily, before his voice went back to a normal volume. Well, normal for Papyrus. He was still needlessly loud, but it was at least more acceptable now. “Are you a new friend, too? Lots of them seemed to show up around here! We should just call this place ‘the Friend Zone’.” Papyrus no.

"Dude." The spirit looks personally affronted by this. "They're your friends. You're basically depriving them of a whole day of fun stuff. Like how often do you guys get together to just do junk? Not a lot right? This is basically all the excuse they need!"
“Just. Tell people. They'll heckle you way more than I can for not telling them sooner, though."
“Like I said, it’s fine. I don’t mind.” A small pause before the little ghost tipped their head at their companion. “Have you told your friends yet?”
