The so called Season 2 only released about 60 days in total so far, but hey OP the staff roll made another nearly full change. Except the solo directing assistant Sooran Lee, the poor OG writer Summer Yoon, and BGM composer ROGIA, other staffs are either changed into complete new team, or only left out with one person. The sections that seems has the same number of staffs before like art team and communication only have 1 staff from last October with others being new. It's really hard to working for Cheritz I guess lol

I wanted to write a post about this because it was the nail in the coffin convincing me that The Ssum won't get better. I really want to be optimistic, I was for the first year of the game's release. But with how hard they're fumbling June's route, and having some context by seeing the dramatic changes that happen behind the scenes, I don't have any hope for the game's future in its original concept.

So here's a big fat list of credits, comparison of them, and my own stupid commentary.

These are in the lyric booklet included in the Teo Love Bundle. Strangely enough, I'm already seeing differences between the 2018 credits and 2019. Uh oh?

As of release + a few months

These screenshots don't feature all the credits, unfortunately. I'm relying on screenshots someone else took because I'm not proactive but hindsight is 20/20.

Changes: Project is no longer managed by Heinrich Dortmann, instead by Juho Woo. Scenario team cut down to 2 people, one of which is a new name (Jooyoung Lim). Art team also cut down to 2 people. Sound is no longer resourced by Songhee Kim, but Jaeryeon Park and ROGIA. All new team of directing assistants as well, it expanded to 4 people but they're all new names. 2 fewer programmers, only one of the listed names was already working.

October 2023 (June's release)

Here's where it somehow gets worse lol.

Changes: A lot. Directing assisted by 1 person. They were not a part of the team credited in the OP. Down to 3 programmers, only 1 being in the OP. Entirely new art team! It's up to 4 people, but all of them are new, even compared to only a few months prior. Down to 1 scenario writer pobrecita (but we're coming back to that). Since I don't have screenshots of the project assistant credits from launch, can't say anything for that, except that Gui Zhenghao is new compared to the OP but the number of staff there remained the same. Flaming Heart is gone for the BGM! He's been working with Cheritz for forever but is gone now. One person from the communication team left, so they're down to 2. That would explain why emails have been slower since October. Only 1 translator, though Cheritz is now looking to recruit new ones.

Important note:

According to Cheritz's post acknowledging their use of gAI, Sujin Ri was not involved in writing season 1 of the game, but IS the main writer for season 2. I won't make a rant about how much I hate what she's writing cuz this isn't the post for that, but it explains why season 2 is so vastly different.

The fact that only a few people (like, in the lower single digits) remain even from 2019/early 2022, let alone who's still around from 2018, is really frustrating for the game. The game started with one vision, but now it's being turned into something completely different. Even the app's functions are inconsistant between season 1 and 2 (and a little so between Harry and Teo). According to an email I got from Cheritz, season 2 takes place a few years before season 1. Just sit with that knowledge for a bit :P. It's like the current people in charge of The Ssum (*cough Sujiin Ri*) couldn't be bothered to keep the original concept in mind, let alone how the timeline would work.

This post was a long time coming, I was caught up in just how bizarre this all is and finding tons of stuff that I haven't even included in the post. Writing this has taken about 3 hours (including the time I spent on a post ONLY FOR TUMBLR TO NOT WANNA WORK PROPERLY WHEN I TRIED TO POST IT SO IT GOT DELETED) and uhhh yeah. Now I gotta wait a few years to ask former staff if their NDAs are expired yet LOL

I want to talk to Teo about our concerns without having to endure the bad mood or not feeling identified with certain answers because there is not much attachment

We want Teo's route, we want to continue with his story and see how he fulfills his dream of making a big movie, Just because four people don't care about Teo doesn't mean the rest do too.

Only four people waiting for the new route that was unnecessary at the moment.

We are not asking that they not make other routes, but that they listen to the fans, Cheritz completely ignores their players who have been asking for the continuation of his route for a long time.

People pay subscriptions to want to play with Teo in the future, but they are offering nothing more than silence.

We came to play The Ssum because we were expecting something new and fresh, not a Mystic Messenger 2.0, I know we and you liked that game, but we are playing a totally different game this time

@cheritzteam , please, I ask you to tell us whether or not you are going to continue with Teo's route, that is all we ask, if not, you are going to lose many players.

Wow, people already sense their problem years ago, yet Cheritz is still indulging in its "Mystic Messenger retirement fund dream" today on the edge of bankruptcy.

The Ssum was set to release March 31st, 2018.

The day hit and everyone excitedly waited for the game to drop…

to nothing.

An apology and postponement were issued, and a soft-launch demo was to be released April 4th the same year in two countries. Afterwards, the new release date was the end of 2018.

Now normally, these things happen, games can have unexpected results, and bugs can appear last minute. Completely understandable.

However, this isn’t the company’s first offense.

As of now, 2019, it has been over a year since The Ssum’s postponement, with absolutely no comment from Cheritz on the state of the game.

One of the reasons why Harry have so many fans is his looks, and Cheritz just destroyed his charm. They said like it's our fault for not barking at their ears everyday how we loved S1 art and story, so only took in haters' voice of wanting more sensational writing with cartoon art. I never thought we need to treat a 10 yrs company like a baby to tell them how we think in every single details. But Cheritz take our undetstanding and peaceful attitude as we don't care, we don't have any opinions of them changing this game into neither fish nor fowl.

No point going for cartoon style if you can't manage Tear of Themis/Light&Night quality like Chinese mobile otome games. No point using money on video calls when you're cutting budget on good artist if you can't make Live 2D similar to Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3 's level (a more than 10 yrs old game)

I'm sorry why can't the video calls be a toggle!! It feels like they restrict the calls more than anything. There are multiple calls where harry is moving around, one even when he's jerked around in a car. With how rudimentary Cheritz's video calls are, I'd rather have it stay voice only.

Also when that video they posted of harry finally loaded it was a jumpscare the only part i like is this
