A grand book of letters sent between two all time authors over a period of 20+ years. Henry Miller; ever suave, always astute, a brutal social observer and a brilliant (by all accounts) lover, most gifted writer. Anais; the thoughtful temptress, the clever wordsmith and the reigning mistress of heart to task erotic literature. Nowadays many people use emoticon for correspondence. Such a shame, when pen to paper is the premium medium for articulating that love stuff. On a completely different note, I began to smoke at 14. My school bus picked me up from a highway underpass nearby a service station named 'Piston Broke'. I would walk across the road and buy red frog lollies or whatnot with some silver change. A French man (unattractive 40 ish) with a black beret, curly dark hair, a long oil slicked goatee and a striped shirt (sometimes a bow tie) worked there at the counter. He wore that outfit everyday as a proud extension of his heritage, of this I am sure. Each morning he would smile gleefully as I walked in, "hello mon cherie". I would blank stare back, my Doc Marten boots already as heavy as my mood. That sunshine state sun barely up to temp yet. Frenchie would gift me cigarettes, I'd never ask, he'd just slide a fresh pack across the desk and nod. Peter Jackson 'Virginia' Dark Blue - dank tobacco hey ho. Bored, by life, and yeah the long bus stop wait, I lit up, spluttered a touch and then got the nicotine good. Not long back I told my father the story of how I started to smoke (him a committed puff daddy himself). He thought back, I could see his mind catching up to the time line, the bus stop, the servo and yep the flicker of recognition as he pictured that caricature type French bloke. Do what you can to make positive a difference on earth. A hash tag might not do much but people power certainly can. This post is simply to highlight the future plight of Australia's Great Barrier Reef region. Y'know - one of the 7 wonders of the natural world! Adani will be a grandiose example of unsustainable mining and negatively impact the delicate oceanic ecosystems. Along with delivering a host of land care issues too. I'm unsure on the current laws regarding peaceful protests in the state of Queensland and yet, irregardless of the legalities I'll head there to make my mark up north when the call comes forth.
