More questions from the 'Drawn Through the Telephone' Interest Check:
Q: Would the mods assign prompts, or would there be a list for contributors to pick from like a pitch sheet?
A: Contributors will be assigned prompts! We'll aim to match people with prompts we think they'll like.
--
Q: Is there any way to ensure the prompt isn't something the contrbutor would not want to work with?
A: There will be space to let us know if there's any specific media you don't want to work on, either because of discomfort or to avoid spoilers.
--
Q: At what point would the contributor learn what the original media was?
A: After the creation period ends (and they've submitted their piece), before the zine is finalised!
--
Q: Would there be some sort of limit on existing media that is eligible to be prompted?
A: We recommend avoiding media that is so popular everyone will recognise it just from a vague summary, and media that is so obscure no-one will recognise it even after it's been described in detail. We haven't made a list of media that absolutely cannot be included, but if you have a specific concern, you can let us know in a message!

Drawn Through the Telephone - a new original concept zine - will be a free, digital anthology, containing both art and writing.
Contributors will submit a vague description of a piece of media they like, and this pitch will then be passed on to a different contributor to create an original work - without knowing what story inspired it. For example: Stardew Valley could be submitted as 'main character moves to old family home, uncovers supernatural secrets and destroys local business'. A creator could turn this into an unwilling vampire hunter overturning the restaurant a coven uses as a front business to feed off locals.

More questions from the 'Drawn Through the Telephone' Interest Check:
Q: Would there be a way to make sure you don't interact with any media you wouldn't want to?
A: We will include the option for people to give a few pieces of media they don't want anything to do with, whether that's because of content or simply if they want to avoid spoilers for something. We will also ask people for their biggest fandoms to avoid matching them up with something they're very familiar with already!
--
Q: Will the prompt writers be asked to write a prompt in a genre distinct from the source work?
A: Prompts will not need to include any specific genre hints. You can leave things open to be interpreted in a different genre, but don't need to force your prompt to fit anything specific.
--
Q: Is this intended to be more like an original fiction zine with a subtle gimmick, or is it meant to be about recogniseable retellings?
A: The idea is to see how different the results of a basic premise can turn out. The works people are creating will be original, and it'll be interesting to see whether they have similarities to the piece of media they share a prompt with, or look totally different!
--
Q: Will there be a limit of how many pieces can be inspired by one work?
A: Yes! There will be one work inspired by a specific piece of media max. We want to have plenty of variety.

Questions from the 'Drawn Through the Telephone' Interest Check so far:
Q: Will the application form have info on the rough schedule for the zine?
A: We'll set up a page for the zine soon with details like an estimated schedule! People will have that information before they apply. We'll link it here when it's up, and include a link in the application form.
--
Q: Is there an age limit to people who can contribute?
A: We'd ask that applicants are 18+ or turning 18 by the end of the application period.
--
Q: If we want to join do we need previous zine experience or be at a certain level art/writing wise?
A: No previous experience needed! The application form will ask for examples of your work - we'd suggest having at least one art piece with a background, or one finished short story ready.
We welcome applications from creators regardless of what level of skill they feel they have, with the minimum being that you feel capable of drawing a simple background or finishing a piece of short, one-off writing.
--
Q: If I'm experienced but not 21+, is there any way I could still mod?
A: If you're 18+, you're welcome to email us (vinegarzines at protonmail dot com) to discuss this further!
--
Q: [Interest in creating music or cosplaying]
A: We'll welcome applications from creators of music, cosplay, or other interesting things when the time comes!
For cosplayers / crafters / etc, we'll count you as a visual creator - you can submit an application as a page artist, and include examples of what you create. We'll include space for people to apply with other types of artistic skills that don't easily mash into visual or written art as well (like musicians, or story narrators).
--
We'll answer more questions as they come in!
