Maddow on Trump’s education secy. fumbling 'AI' pronunciation | MSNBC | April 12, 2025
MSNBC's Rachel Maddow discusses the irony of Education Secretary Linda McMahon fumbling the pronunciation of AI with A.1. — like the steak sauce — at a conference on education and artificial intelligence.
RACHEL MADDOW: Linda McMahon Trump's, education secretary, found time in her busy schedule to go to a conference this week, a conference on artificial intelligence and American education. It's a whole conference about AI, artificial intelligence. AI, that's what we call it, right? AI, AI. Unless you're Trump's education secretary, in case that abbreviation, AI, turns out that's a really hard one.
LINDA MCMAHON: I heard, I think it was a letter or report that I heard this morning, I wish I could remember the source, but that there is a school system that's going to start, um, making sure that first graders or even pre-K’s have A1 teaching, you know, every year starting, you know, that far down in the grades. And that's just a, that's a wonderful thing.
"NOBODY…absolutely nobody, is better at showcasing the idiocy of trump’s administration than @maddow.msnbc.com" —Libby Wittemore on Bluesky

We let them run on for decades dismantling our education system and our news media, and now we're shocked that we have a mob of ignorant, misinformed voters.

We can't return, we can only look behind on where we came, and go round and round and round in the circle game.
the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

jsyk, when you hear “shot bean bags at protesters”
you might think something like a hacky sack, but that is the misleading nature of this name. Often, they are talking about these:
that is fired out of a shotgun. The cloth is kevlar, and inside is.. THE SAME LEAD PELLETS YOU FIND IN MOST SHOTGUN ROUNDS.
The kevlar prevents spread and penetration. But people are still getting shot with a shotgun.
That is why, even though you often hear or see “less THAN lethal” the actual technical term for this kind of ammo is “less lethal”. As in still lethal, just not as deadly as a standard shotgun round
This is what is being fired at civilians. If you get hit in the head there is a GOOD chance of you winding up in critical condition or dead. Be careful out there

In a rare double own-goal the Young Nationals (the youth wing of a conservative party) posted this in their own Facebook comment section today

Naturally they have been getting completely roasted for it in the comments, leading the page to clarify they were actually referencing another blunder.
Problem is, it was a blunder by another Nationals MP that had largely gone unnoticed, so they've just dunked on their own brand twice.

The comments on both are, of course full of references to one of the great AusPol comment blunders of all time, making it possibly a rare three-for-one stuff up.

reading the wiki for the american psycho movie every single thing it’s saying about christian bale has me in tears …….. he literally wanted the role so bad he got that buff in two weeks, rejected every other offer for 9 months while the producers tried to get dicaprio to be patrick bateman bc bale knew dicaprio would chicken out, went to dinner with the director and the guy who wrote the novel IN CHARACTER apparently scaring the shit out of the novelist, took the role for $50k, and then made all his costars think he was a giant freak bc he never fucking broke character, and APARENTLY LITERALLY HAS CONTROL OVER HIS SWEAT GLANDS AND USED THIS IN THE BUSINESS CARD SCENE
