The show notes were WAY too long, so I’ve made them available at my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/victorianscribblers

Uploading Episode 1! I have the world’s slowest internet, so it will be just a bit longer. But it’s on its way!

iTunes is *still* processing the podcast feed, but that doesn't mean you can't access the latest episode!
Simply head over to www.patreon.com/victorianscribblers and hit play!
Alternately, you can access the podcast on iTunes by opening up the iTunes app, selecting "File" and, on the drop-down menu, choosing "Subscribe to a podcast," and then pasting the following link in the dialog box that pops up:

Podcast heading to iTunes THIS FRIDAY!
Hi guys!
This Friday, I release the first full podcast episode (on the life and work of Wilkie Collins)!
Also this Friday, the podcast goes live on iTunes. If you want to help a girl and her podcast out, please subscribe on iTunes! The more subscribers I have in the first 3 weeks, the more likely iTunes will be to promote me in its New and Noteworthy section!
Sharing this page / the podcast with your friends and family would also be a great help.
Oh, and just for fun: here's a link to the 1934 film adaptation of Collins's The Moonstone. Directed by Reginald Baker, starring David Manners and Phyllis Barry. It does something really interesting: featuring close-ups of newspapers, it attempts to convey the reportorial and record-like nature of the novel itself. So fascinating!

In which I take on Jane Austen...and provisionally outline what actually counts as "Victorian." Fortify yourselves, because I put on my ranting pants.

(Victorian Scribblers Podcast)
Show Notes:
As promised, a quick overview of non-academic, but informative and entertaining podcast episodes about Victorians / Writers.
The History Chicks (a podcast I love and highly recommend):
Queen Victoria (part one here, part two here)
Lewis Carroll
Beatrix Potter
I’m sure this isn’t an all-inclusive list, but their excellent podcast is the only one I’ve found that takes an extended but non-academic look at any Victorians. PLEASE let me know if you’re aware of others!
For a great overview of life and society in the Victorian period, I recommend Richard Altick’s Victorian People and Ideas.
For an overview of statistics on Victorian writers (which is now a bit outdated, but provides a solid overview), see John Sutherland’s Victorian Fiction: Writers, Publishers, Readers --especially the chapter titled “Who Were They?”
