How to Stop Procrastinating by Managing Your Emotions
Procrastination happens when we delay doing things, and it's often connected to our emotions. Feelings like being afraid to fail, feeling worried or stressed, getting bored, or lacking motivation can all contribute to procrastination. To stop procrastinating and get more things done, it's important to learn how to handle our emotions better.
Boredom:
Break the task into smaller, more engaging sub-tasks.
Find ways to make the task more interesting or challenging.
Set a timer and work on the task for a specific amount of time, followed by a short break doing something enjoyable.
Feeling Overwhelmed:
Prioritize tasks and focus on one thing at a time.
Break the task into smaller, more manageable steps.
Delegate some parts of the task if possible or seek help from others.
Use tools like to-do lists or task management apps to stay organized.
Anxiety:
Practice deep breathing or mindfulness techniques to calm yourself.
Challenge negative thoughts and replace them with more positive and realistic ones.
Start with the easier or less intimidating aspects of the task to build momentum.
Set realistic expectations and remind yourself that it's okay to make mistakes.
Self-Doubt:
Focus on past accomplishments and successes to boost your confidence.
Seek support or feedback from others to gain reassurance.
Remind yourself of your skills and capabilities to tackle the task.
Use positive affirmations to counteract negative self-talk.
Perfectionism:
Embrace the concept of "good enough" rather than seeking perfection.
Set realistic and achievable goals for each task.
Recognize that mistakes and imperfections are part of the learning process and growth.
Indecisiveness:
Break decisions into smaller steps and make one small decision at a time.
Set a time limit for making decisions to avoid overthinking.
Trust your instincts and make the best decision you can with the information available.
Apathy or Lack of Interest:
Find aspects of the task that align with your values or long-term goals.
Break the task into smaller, more manageable parts and focus on completing one at a time.
Reward yourself for completing the task to make it more appealing.
Stress or Burnout:
Practice stress-reduction techniques such as meditation, exercise, or spending time in nature.
Break tasks into smaller steps to reduce the feeling of overwhelm.
Prioritize self-care and take breaks to avoid burnout.
Feeling Uninspired or Creatively Blocked:
Engage in activities that stimulate creativity, such as brainstorming, mind mapping, or seeking inspiration from others' work.
Start with a simple and basic version of the task to get the creative juices flowing.
Collaborate with others or seek feedback to gain new perspectives.
Fear of Success:
Identify and challenge the negative beliefs or fears that may be holding you back.
Visualize the positive outcomes of completing the task successfully.
Focus on the benefits and personal growth that come with success.
Impatience:
Break long-term goals into smaller milestones to track progress.
Practice mindfulness to stay present and patient throughout the process.
Remind yourself that progress takes time and effort.
Lack of Confidence:
Celebrate your past accomplishments to boost your confidence.
Seek support and encouragement from friends, family, or mentors.
Focus on building specific skills related to the task to increase confidence.
Avoiding Discomfort:
Acknowledge that discomfort is a natural part of growth and improvement.
Break tasks into smaller steps and tackle the more challenging aspects gradually.
Remind yourself of the long-term benefits of facing discomfort.
Overestimating Future Motivation:
Practice discipline and commit to starting tasks even when motivation is low.
Set specific deadlines for tasks to create a sense of urgency.
Establish a routine that includes regular work on the task to build consistency.

another heavy handed symbolism moment: my mom has a potted sunflower in the kitchen. because it is a sunflower, it keeps turning towards the light from the window. my mother keeps rotating it so it faces inward because she wants "to see its beautiful petals and have it really brighten up the space!" . the sunflower is visibly wilting .

my recent romantic reads
From Blood and Ash (4.20/5)
basically poppy is this worshipped virgin who is important for all the people and they get her this sexy bodyguard to protect her!!! he turns out to be even sexier of a character than he initially was and it’s all very sexy! a spicy read with vampires and lots of crazy plot twists !!!!
The Unhoneymooners (3.7/5)
A rom-com in a book! very easy read :) basically this girl goes on a trip with her sister’s-husband’s-brother and they hate each other (enemies to lovers <3) many cute fluffy falling in love scenes and a few decently spicy scene !
The Love Hypothesis (3.7/5)
AS A WOMAN IN STEM this was a super cute book and it gave me a bunch of new imaginary scenarios to fall asleep toooo <3 chapter 16 was some of the best real book smut i’ve read LOL and it was GRUMPY MEETS SUNSHINE!!!! I LOVEE GRUMPY MEETS SUNSHINE! . basically the girl has this professor and they start fake dating (weird but it worked) and everyone knows the prof as this super grumpy dude so it’s kinda crazy that he starts dating this sunshine girl andddd . the only annoying part for me was the side characters
It Ends With Us (4.7/5)
!!! definitely not a cute and fluffy romantic read ! it is very emotional and kinda heavy but i loved the ending and sometimes u need a sobering book like this one . basically there’s this girl and she meets this guy and they fall in love but there’s also this guy from her past (ATLAS!!!! <3333) and .... very good book . (author’s note made me cry)
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST ...... BEACH READ (5/5)
MY FAVORITE BOOK . how to stay motivated as a writer
Reread your old writing. Especially those scenes you're proud of
Write something silly. Doesn’t need to be logical, or included in your story. Write something dumb
Compare your old writing to your new writing. Seeing how much you've improved is a great way to get motivated
Explore different storylines. Those type of storylines that would never make it into your novel, but that you'd still like to explore
Choose one of your least favorite scenes, or a really old one, and rewrite it
Read old comments from people praising your work
Create a playlist of music that reminds you of your wip
Don't push yourself to get back to what made you stop writing in the first place. Write something else
Write what you want to write, no matter how cliché it might be perceived as. It doesn't matter. If you want to write it, write it.
Take a break and focus on another hobby of yours. Consume other pieces of media, or take a walk to clear your head
You don't have to write in chronological order from the very beginning if it isn't working for you! Sometimes a scene you aren't interested in writing can become interesting after you've explored other scenes leading up to it/happening after it
Read one star reviews of ''awful'' books. As much as I hate to say it, you'll unlock a newly appreciated view on your own writing
create a new storyline, or a new character. Anything that helps bring something fresh into your story. Could even be a completely new wip
Not writing everyday doesn't make you a bad writer. If you feel you need a break, take one.
Remind yourself to have fun. Start writing and don't focus all your attention on following every rule created for writing. You can get into the nitty-gritty when you’ve familiarized yourself with writing as an art. Or don’t. It's fiction. You make your own rules.
Go to sleep, or take a nap. Sleep deprivation and writing does not go hand in hand (trust me)
Listen to music that reminds you of your characters/wip
Remember why you started. Know that you deserve to tell the story you want to tell regardless of the skill you possess
