and suddenly you're 16 again and you're in that diner with your best friend and she laughs at something but you dont know what she's smiling about. you dont understand it yet but you fall a little more in love with her. and suddenly you're moving away and that diner closed down after the pandemic. suddenly you're not 16 anymore. and its too late.

anyway you might be thinking "why are you gonna draw nagireo if youre not even gonna draw nagi properly" and the thing is that reo's gaze is what brings her presence deeper into the piece. her existence is given importance because reo is smiling at her btw. also theres very little detail on most of the restaraunt because its supposed to represent something from nagi's memories and have a sort of dreamlike quality, where only certain parts that you actually remember are in detail and the rest is blank, thats also why the outdoor background is completely blank. for the flowers, i used to really like breathing really hard in the vague direction of dandelions and watch the seeds fly away like little fairies, so i personally associate them with childhood, nostalgia, and the fleeting nature of the past. my mom also used to keep hydrangeas at home when i was a kid, so i associate those with childhood/youth and nostalgia as well

like daisy, reo grew up with his money as a fallback for any of his problems. let's be real here, despite hisenormous talent and hard work, I doubt he'd be where he is today without it

gatsby started off with nothing and always invested too much time and focus into his one dream that revolved around being with one person, which ended up being his downfall righ... he was always obsessed with the past, and reached for things just beyond his reach, barely making it to the top.

tell me that's literally not nagi. in the 3rd selection, he made top 6, but he was still only 6th. not 2nd or 4th, but 6th. throughout nel he struggled to stay afloat.

nagi was obsessed with reo like how gatsby is obsessed eith daisy, doing absolutely anything they can for that person to notice and be with them- even when he left reo for isagi, he wasn't doing it for himself, in his head that was all for reo too!!! the selfish thing about nagi was that he never did anything for himself- always for reo.

anyways, gatsby and the green light is something we see a couple times throughout the novel. he's always seen reaching towards to light (which we're supposed to recognize symbolizes his dream), only for the light to be behind him the whole time, something of the past that is impossible for him to have again, since he could never repeat the past, no matter how much he tries to.

the only reason nagi ever started playing soccer was for reo. his dream isn't to win the world cup, that's REOS dream. nagis dream was just to play alongside him. that's the light he's reaching for. he's invested too much into this one thing without any consideration for anything else, just like gatsby: "If that was true he must have felt that he had lost the old warm world, paid a high price or living too long with a single dream."

nick realizing the light was behind gatsby is the equivalent of isagi realizing that he (and everyone else) had it wrong. reo wasn't the one chasing nagi, but it was nagi trying to chase the old version of reo, who was the first person to make him feel human- their meeting was the thing that gave nagi's life meaning, just as how gatsbys life was insignificant until he met daisy.

here, instead of using money and extravagant parties as bait, nagi uses soccer and his extravagant plays as the reason to get reo to stay with him. however, gatsby and nagi both technically 'cheated' their way up to that top spot. Gatsby literally cheated and scammed people, but for nagi, his form of cheating his way up was never practicing. reo told him he was a genius. so in nagis mind, if reo still thought he was a genius, he didn't ACTUALLY have to be one. he didn't need to put in effort, because in reo's eyes, they were on that level above everyone else.

again, obviously, reo does not act as shallow as daisy, he genuinely deeply cares for nagi and only nagi. HOWEVER. everyone believes that gatsby is some big hotshot, and daisy will be the one left behind when he decides he's actually over her. but it flips when gatsby dies and daisy is the one who leaves and moves on without warning.like i said before, nagis been the one chasing, and here [SPOILERS!!!!!!!!]

reo's the one who ends up leaving nagi behind, when he makes top 10 and nagi gets locked off.
