hii :) it’s the admin. i know i haven’t been active since APRIL (!!!) and i’m super sorry about this. i started this blog during an extensive exam season (my fault really) and should have known better, but now that it’s summer i’m trying to continue where i left off. please bear with me! 2017: seven DNFs next to the ‘four-midable’

In 2017, Lewis and Sebastian keep swapping wins while the Red Bull's reliability lets Max down. Despite all luck, 3344 share significant moments together.

April 9th, 2017. Lewis takes the second win of the season while Max is P3.

Max and Lewis stand with their arms around one another and wide smiles.

Max and Lewis discuss a possible rivalry if Red Bull improve their pace while Max makes a typical Max joke. (LOL).

It is still so fascinating to see how Lewis changes his opinion of Max after thinking he was just another rookie. Lewis definitely saw a champion in Max; of course, talent recognises talent!

October 1st, 2017. The Malaysian GP takes place. It's a P1 for Max, his second of the season, and a P2 for Lewis.

Max and Lewis share the podium together. Although, Lewis looks rather unsatisifed with his result next to an ecstatic Max.

October 8th, 2017. The Japanese GP takes place. A lot of 3344 interactions ensue.

Lewis drowns Max in champagne and then, in classic Lewis fashion, whips his phone out for an Instagram selfie.

In the press conference, Lewis and Max banter about their age gap. Get a room...

Japan was another turning point because it sparked the rivalry between the two drivers, for sure. Lewis was threatened, he could admit it, and Max was admiring his superior who was still so dominant after years. If you told these two they'd be in one of the sport's most tense title battles ever, they'd laugh and believe it.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────

October 29th, 2017. The Mexican GP takes place. Lewis places 9th, thus winning his fourth title, while Max wins the GP.

Additionally, Lewis commented on Max's future in the sport.

The tension will rise in due time.

November 26th, 2017. The Brazilian GP takes place, in which Lewis and Max are next to each other in P4 and P5 respectively.

Overall, it seems that the friendly rivalry is becoming more aggressive with time. As the drivers get to know each other, they understand how hungry they are; from a three time winner 20 year-old to a seasoned veteran with four championships. One can only hope they share more battles in 2018.

2016: upgrade for one, toxic title battle for the other

May 15th, 2016. Max is promoted from Toro Rosso to Red Bull’s primary team. Soon, he would become the youngest driver to win a Grand Prix ever due to Lewis’ incident with Nico. Thus, Max finally gets a chance to chase Lewis, who has his most arduous title fight since 2008.

Max Verstappen sits beside Daniel Kyvat, whom has been demoted to Toro Rosso. Lewis Hamilton looks onward.

This was a massive day for Max, yet there is no evidence of Lewis congratulating him. Perhaps he was too pissed off after his incident. Yet one can infer, as the season progresses, that Lewis' opinion of the rookie ameliorates.

July 1-3rd, 2016. The Austrian GP takes place. Lewis wins with Max in P2.

For some, it is arguable that 2016 became the year in which Max finally appeared on Lewis' radar; he was not just some kid anymore. And the next race is excellent proof.

July 4th, 2016. This is a relevant moment in terms of media, since Max says a lot about Lewis:

August 28th, 2016. The Belgian GP takes place.

September 2nd - 4th, 2016. During the Italian GP weekend, Lewis defends Max:

"Give the guy a break, he is 18 years old. What the heck were any of us doing at 18?” Lewis added.

November 13th, 2016. The Brazilian GP takes place. Lewis decreases his gap to Nico while Max is third.

November 27th, 2016. The season ends in Abu Dhabi.

Lewis and Max are getting along pretty well, considering Lewis told him he would learn on his own last year.

Overall, 2016 seems to be the beginning of 3344's friendly rivalry as Max breaks the record for most overtakes in the season [for the time] with 78 while Lewis loses against Nico. Max is moving up while Lewis can only hope he maintains his elite position. What will 2017 entail?

2015: "paddock baby" versus two-time champion

March 15th, 2015. Max becomes the youngest F1 driver ever, racing for Toro Rosso at the Australian Grand Prix. Without doubt, his entrance sparked discussions. But what we want to know is what Lewis thought of this scrawny seventeen-year-old Dutch boy.

Lewis: You were born in '97?

Max: Yeah.

Lewis: Jeez. I signed my first contract with McLaren in '97. I don't have any words of wisdom. He'll learn on his way.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────

Clearly, Lewis was flippant about this “paddock baby”. He was a two-time champion by then; he had nothing to do with rookies, and, as Max has mentioned in the modern day, times were different. Rookies didn’t have anyone to look after them or help them. The reply may seem quite bland to some––almost mean––but Max smiles, and the moment passes.

Throughout the season, there is little interaction between the two. Max is gaining experience and learning every race while Lewis is busy fighting Nico for the championship. But there are occasions where they can be seen together.

Keep in mind the few moments they are together are during press conferences. This is because they had no reason to interact, and Max DNFed 5 times, reducing his chances of a good position and thus a reason to talk to Lewis.

June 5-7th, 2015. The Canadian GP takes place.

October 30th to November 1st, 2015. The Mexican GP takes place. After a season of growth, Max finally seems more confident in the media. And this is, one can argue, the first 3344 crumb.

Max has a rather positive but cordial opinion of Lewis (I have a video as well, but Tumblr is not nice).

It is a shame that there is not a lot to show for this year, but it gets better. If you have anything regarding 3344 from this year, show us!
