[New Comic!] Home Without Borders
Hello, this is my first english language comic I published on webtoon! It’s a short story which I submitted for a contest. I plan to make this 3 episodes length + 1 epilog. The story itself revolves around a boy who was an indirect victim of World War II, and tells his struggle to live in a society that rejected his identity.
You can read more by clicking on this link: Home Without Borders
I really enjoy making this comic because history is really my passion (lol). So regardless of the contest result, only making and completing this is already enough for me as the first and my foremost goal is to have readers reading and becoming more aware of this kind of story.
Hope you like it!
(also, I’d be very thankful if you can support me at Patreon, here’s the link: Ellinot’s Patreon)

I love GerFran, especially GerFemFran, I have roleplay it for years and I love your style!
I MEAN WHO DOESN’T?! :’D
Tbh GerFem!Fra is my favorite form of this ship, but since APH France is canonically portrayed as male, so I just happen to draw it more often lol xD
Now this drawing is inspired by this beautiful (political) illustration of real life personification of France and Germany (credit artist in the picture)
I don’t know the whole context but the translation of the text above is “Do not leave me! German Michel courts French Marianne.” which I find is so heartwarmingly cute

Sorry, I just keep thinking lately that these two are so tragic so…. 😌
Timeline: 1. Crisis of the third century. During Roman Empire period, there was a short-lived union between Gaul and Britannia called Gallic Empire. Actually Hispania was included in the beginning, but it deserted the empire later. 2. Hundred Years’ Wars. English tried to claim French throne in numerous times. French did too actually. Both never succeeded. 3. During World War II after the Fall of France, there was a proposal to unite France & Britain, but French government rejected the idea and went to collaborate with Nazi Germany instead, calling the union with Britain as “fusion with a corpse” lol. 4. Suez crisis, humiliating France and UK as two great (and failed) imperialist power holders. both were so broken and France secretly proposed a union between them, in which the UK rejected later. It eventually lead France to make a deal with its eastern neighbors and forge a closer relationship with Germany instead :p
And if you want to know the sequel of this story, just read the history of Brexit xD
(Also about huge waterfall that separated Great Britain&France: Doggerland)

OH my, I'm so happy you've posted again! How are you?
OH MY AAAAAA
you know I’m actually much happier to know someone is waiting for my post and even care for me too!
Sorry I’ve been inactive for awhile. My current job requires 24/7 attention, so I barely have time to do other things, and you must think this blog is already abandoned xD But worry not, this is one of my sources of fun and happiness in my harsh world, so I will try to keep updating and posting! And also I thank for the asks I received from you all, though I can not answer all of them immediately, but I read your questions everyday hoping to answer them in a second xD
So... yeah I’m doing fine and I hope you all too ^^

Gaul and Britain - Gallia et Britannia
They both were regarded as barbarians by Rome.
Historically, Gaul had two big enemies: Germani and Rome. But apparently, Gaul thought Rome was better, that she could use him to protect her from the more barbaric Germani. So after a series of wars, Gaul was defeated and officially occupied by Rome and being romanized.
During this Gallic Wars though, Rome first noticed there was an unknown island at the edge of the world, who was supporting Gaul’s hostility and resistance against him. Rome believed this island had long been in contact with Gaul. So after successfully invaded Gaul, Rome turned his eyes to this tiny island and then named it Britannia.
Both Gaul and Britain were occupied by Rome around the same time. They had always been close to each other, and there was even a time when they wanted to rebel and made their own empire called “Gallic Empire”. But the rebellion didn’t last long.
After Rome died and the migration period began, Gaul and Britain were so ill they didn’t have the ability to fight and live anymore. They died while Germanic tribes invaded their land (Frank in Gaul, Anglo-Saxon in Britain).
Later, they were succeeded by their sons, France and England.

Who was that person that France was talking to in this comic?
Gaul (latin: Gallia, french: Gaule)
And for those who are wondering who is this Gaul, the quick answer is "she is the ancient France". That is too simplistic though, since the area that was Gaul extends into what are the modern neighboring countries.
Before being conquered by Roman Empire, Gaul was inhabited by various disunited tribes. After Roman Empire fell, the Franks (a Germanic tribe) took over control of Gaul and the identity in that area was gradually changed into France (which also has literal meaning: Land of the Franks).
Nowadays though, Gallia remains a name of France in modern Greek.

Does Germany wonder why France call him of Allemagne? Despite the part of this is how speak Germany in french
The name Allemagne and the other similar-sounding names are derived from the southern Germanic tribe Alemanni.
After Frankish conquest of Gaul (France), through Battle of Tolbiac in 496 he also added Alemanni into his dominions. This tribe had tried to invade Gaul in numerous times, but never succeeded.
The name of ‘Germany’ itself derived from the Latin Germania. It was likely the Gauls who first called the people who crossed east of the Rhine Germani, which the Romans adopted later.

So .... Which one of you confess his feelings to the other first ?? ;)
Germany confessed to France some time in 1962, approximately between 2-8 July. No one really knows the exact date as they keep it as a secret until now. It was during Germany’s chancellor Konrad Adenauer’s visit to France, Germany had confessed his feeling to his neighbor. At that time, he didn’t intend to date France, because Germany thought dating would be difficult and impossible since they were both still recovering from world wars wounds.
It was France, who was during his president Charles De Gaulle’s visit to Bonn (then de facto capital city of West Germany) two months later, said that he also had the same feeling as Germany and wanted them to take a deeper route.
The next year, precisely on January 22th 1963, they were officially dating.

The partition of the Frankish Empire in the 843 marked the end of a single state. While the population in both the Western and Eastern kingdoms had relative homogeneous language groups (Gallo-Romanic in West Francia, and Low German and High German in East Francia), Middle Francia was a mere strip of a mostly blurring yet culturally rich language-border-area, roughly between the rivers Meuse and Rhine – and soon partitioned again. After the 880 Treaty of Ribemont, the border between western and eastern kingdom remained almost unchanged for some 600 years. Germany went on with a centuries-long attachment with Italy, while France grew into deeper relations with England.

Clovis I, the first king of Kingdom of The Franks (Francia/Frankia/Frankish Empire/Frankland). It was a historical kingdom that existed not long after the fall of Roman Empire. This kingdom was created by a germanic tribe named Frank.
Regarded as the common predecessor of the modern states of France and Germany, this tribe conquered an area named Gaul (today France) and also some area of what is now Germany (mainly in the west). Frankish Kingdom was later divided into 3 different kingdoms, with the big and significant ones being West Francia (later France) and East Francia (later Holy Roman Empire).
Once lived in the same house, France and Holy Roman Empire were raised as brothers, even though they were not related or might hate each other.

If you had the chance to travel to the past, would there be a specific time/moment you would like to revisit?
The agglomeration which was called and which still calls itself the Holy Roman Empire was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire.
— Voltaire, a famous French writer and philosopher (1756)
The last Holy Roman Emperor, Francis II, officially dissolved the empire on 6 August 1806, soon after the creation of Confederation of the Rhineby Napoleon.
Always blaming himself for it, actually France would like to unkill someone he has killed in the past, someone who was actually very dear to him. And yes, you already know who :)

Do you two live together?
Officially France lives in Paris and Germany in Berlin. But they have a house build in Strasbourg and often spend time together there.
[Strasbourg is a city that serves as the official seat of the European Parliament. It’s a very special city because…..it’s both French and German? The city is located in France and bordering Germany. You can read more about Strasbourg here.]

Which one of you two is more easily jealous?
Actually it’s Germany haha. He can’t lie that he alwaysfeels insecure whenever he sees France together with his ex, England. Germany oncecomplained about this and France assured him there’s nothing going on betweenthose two anymore (even their relationship is more to enemies than friends). But still, sometimes, just seeing them talking and laughing together can reallymake Germany uneasy. They don’t look like enemies who hate each other, actually, quite the opposite. It is as if they unconsciously build a circle thatno one can enter but them. As Germany is pretty aware too, France and England havea long history together that he can’t possibly hope to top.
But since Germany can’t really do anything about that, hejust put up with his jealousy, keep pretending nothing happened even thoughdeep inside it feels like there’s some fire burning his heart, gradually tryingto turn it into ashes.

It's awesome to see a new ask blog! I guess I'll start with a simple question: what are each of your ideas of a perfect date? Or, what is the best date you two have been on?
Seems like this comic doesn’t really answer your question hahaxD but actually, France is the mastermind behind every date they have, whereasGermany has no idea how to arrange romantic stuff, so he usuallyjust complieswith France’s idea. At least Germany considers every date he has with France asperfect. As long as France is beside him, no more things needed, truly.
And for their best date... it is a bit complicated. I thinkI will make it in separated post.
