I want more female characters who are just so bad at comforting others. Not for lack of trying or caring, they just get so so awkward when someone's upset, and they try to repeat things they've heard even if it doesn't necessarily apply to the situation, or they accidentally say the wrong thing and make it worse. If someone cries they panic and throw every single comfort technique down at once and it only helps because it's such bizarre behaviour

there are a few reasons saoirse feels more comfortable around wyverns than people and i want to go into a couple of em

first is that seteth and claude both handled the upkeep of their wyverns personally, so there were many times when flayn brought her over to the eyrie looking for them when she was little. as such she was used to seeing them and being around them from a very early age

second is that when she was a little older, seteth explicitly taught her how to read their behaviours and interact with them. no-one gave her that same courtesy for people, even though it's just as intuitive to her, ie not intuitive in the slightest. so she Knows wyverns, what all their signals and various noises mean. the guesswork is taken out of it.

third is that, obviously, wyverns have less complex social needs and constructs than people, and the stakes are way lower. neurodivergent people often prefer the company of animals to people irl too because of this, and its why therapy animals can be used to treat (social) anxiety, esp in kids.

fourth is down to a linguistic quirk i invented for the worldbuilding. due to having no contact with nabateans or fódlan religion for at least the past thousand years, any word meaning "dragon" the almyran language couldve had has been lost. after claude came back from fódlan, and after he married flayn, he had to explain to his non-fódlanic-speaking dad that there was a non-zero possibility of his children being able to transform in the future. "into what?" "uhh... big wyverns? i guess?" when claude related this story to his kids years later, najm had a good laugh, and saoirse simply sat there thinking about how they were like big wyverns. there is literal (not actual but still) kinship there in her mind.
