My lore is a work in progress, but for the dragons I’ve finished bios and stories for, it always starts with a single idea that I’m really curious about/passionate in/emotional about. Sometimes that takes the form of “ooo, that troupe is really interesting, let’s throw a dragon like that in my clan and see what sticks”. Sometimes it’s “what if X?” It always start with an idea I care about, basically.

For example, Auri is a deconstruction of Lovecraftian eldritch horrors. The concept behind them is, 'what if there were creatures so alien to humanity, that we were as to them what humans are to ants?'. And that's quite a frightening concept, but on the other hand, there are people in real life who are very interested in ants, who keep ant farms, who spend their lives studying them trying to understand how their little alien world works. They find it wonderful, instead of small and insignificant. Auri's like that.

So for me, my dragons are usually “born” when I want to take an existing story/troupe, and continue it, twist it, or both. And once I’m emotionally invested in something, writing comes a lot easier. If I’m not feeling inspired to write a bio, or story, then I might think on the idea for a while, or twist it, or listen to some songs that remind me of it. Basically, I develop the idea until I care enough about it that I feel motivated to write it. It might not work for everyone, but that’s my trick~

to those who have lore lairs: how do you go about writing lore? or a clan story, things like that? i finally want to start writing clan lore but,, ive got no idea where to start. anyone got tips?

Whoops? ^^’ A little late on the draw, but I should probably tell you guys a bit about me! I’ve been on FR for a while (I think I joined right after the anniversary), but I wanted to give making a blog a whirl!

I’m Venusian, or Venus, or Ven. My username is based on a sci-fi word meaning “someone from Venus”. My favorite dragon breeds are Mirrors and Pearlies! Tundras have really been growing on me lately, too. I like to try scrying and breeding with some of the more unpopular and/or older genes, I find it a fun challenge, and I have fun making some unique-looking dergs~

I love writing lore, and I’m notoriously bad at aesthetics. Hopefully I can be pardoned for that! I’m looking for FR blogs to follow, so feel free to rb/like this so I can find you guys.
