Rota Fortunae fic of another Rota Fortunae fic (specifically @the-void-via 's fic !!)

this is really just me inserting swallowtail in there so he can cling onto shilou like a little koala bear.

"Hey, you! Mysterious guy.. well, there's no one else here, so.."

Swallowtail ran up to the cloaked person, gently clutching a letter in one of his hands. He looked up at the mystery person's face, bright purple eyes searching for any hint of sympathy. It was there, somewhere within the crimson depths of their gaze, and the android was relieved when he found it.

With a trembling hand, he reached out and handed the person the envelope he was holding, pleading through his gaze for them to accept it. Once more, he was relieved when they cautiously accepted the letter.

"And who are you, exactly?"

The person questioned, gently tucking the letter away in one of his pockets underneath the cloak. He scanned the android up and down, looking for any hint of malice in its' body language.

"My name is Swallowtail. Please, if you're heading for the resistance, or if you know anyone who is.. tell them to pass that envelope to Raven Sterling, from his brother. If there's anything I can do.."

The android's eyes darted around the other's body, spotting a glint of metal - most probably prosthetic limbs - underneath his cloak, and an obviously broken mechanical hand. He immediately looked towards the man's eyes.

"I could fix your hand," he offered, already patting his pockets for materials he could use. "But it won't hold for long. Most I can guarantee is it won't fall off."

"I don't see why not, besides, I didn't think I was gonna get this repaired before it fell off," the man shrugged, sticking out his damaged hand to be fixed.

Swallowtail looked up once he'd gotten his scrap metal and screwdriver, stopping in awe for a moment at the now clear sight of the man's head - he was unexpectedly beautiful, but he shook himself out of it to focus on attempting to repair his hand.

He moved quickly, patching up the busted joints almost like a human doctor performing first aid on a sprain. The repair wasn't pretty, nor would it last more than a week, but it would work. He finished up almost as quickly as he'd started, and dusted his hands off.

"I suggest you get this to an actual mechanic sooner or later, but best you be on your way now. Stay safe, mr..?" he prompted, as he reached up to pull the man's hood back on his head.

"Shilou. Thank you for.. well, this, Swallowtail. I'll try my best to get your letter to your brother."

"Thank you as well, Shilou. Oh- one last favor, don't tell anyone that I exist, unless it's very, very important. Now go, you probably have somewhere to be."

“Excuse me,” came Ratio's voice out of the blue, as he crossed his arms over his chest defensively. "Who are you?"

"No, no, the question should b-"

Shilou was cut off, his attention drawn back to Herta as she inspected his hand - more specifically his wrist - and the scrap metal that seemed to be from a repair done around a week ago. As far as she knew, Shilou could not repair his own hand, and even if he tried to, would only succeed in making the situation worse. Aside from her and Ruan Mei, there were no others that could fix his hand, even haphazardly, unless...

"Alright, who did this? Scrap metal? Gold screws?"

She practically glared daggers at Shilou, goading him into answering her with full honesty. He gulped, eyes darting towards the android laying on another table for less than a second, before returning to Herta once more.

"I did it," he lied through his teeth, wanting to keep that promise to Swallowtail. It wasn't entirely impossible, since he collected scrap metal here and there, along with screws, and he had a utility knife with a screwdriver attachment to actually perform the repair.

Alas, Herta knew better, and withdrew her hands like a mother taking away her child's toy, and crossed her arms over her chest, looking over him disappointedly.

"No, I mean who really did this. We both know it sure as dawn isn't you, Shilou. Now, who did it?"

The man cringed as she pressed him on, the pressure to reveal his mechanic's identity growing exponentially by the second. He scratched his nape nervously, trying to decide between keeping his promise or appeasing Herta with his answer. Right as he was about to respond, he was cut off by her again.

"Of course, they're not as good as me at repairing, but they did a decent job.. ah, you mentioned something about compensation? Why don't you bring them to me once I've fixed you up?"

Shilou perked up at the possibility of seeing the android again, almost immediately nodding and accepting the deal as the scientist took his hand once more to repair it.

Shilou was fairly sure that the android hadn't moved at all from where he was previously settled, so when he found someone in all black clothing hunched over a bunch of papers, his suspicions were immediately confirmed. He marched over to Swallowtail and practically picked him up by the scruff, pulling him up into a standing position.

"Hey, what gives-! Oh, it's you. Why are you.. back here? Another hand repair?"

The android leaned in to inspect him, especially his arms and legs, but pulled back when he saw that nothing was wrong. Did the man have a message from his brother? That seemed to be the only logical reason.

He adjusted his gloves, tugging them taut against his skin, so they'd extend past his elbows. His shirt-bodysuit had sleeves that extended up to half his arm, and his pants were slung low on his hips - kind of like a car mechanic, but not very good for running.

"No, I just want to bring you somewhere. Get all your stuff."

Swallowtail had to pause for a moment, before confusedly complying with the instructions given to him. It wasn't long before they reached some sort of bunker, where Shilou typed in a passcode and practically dragged him in. They were both met with the curious gaze of a light brunette woman, who seemed pleased at their arrival.

"Ah, you've brought your mystery mechanic in. Seems to me he'll make a great assistant.."

"Hold on, Shilou. Pause. You told her about me?" He questioned, slightly puzzled and betrayed, but willing to hear the man out nonetheless.

"She wouldn't repair my hand otherwise, and... you seemed quite lonely back there. I didn't want that."

His expression and body language softened at that, and he found himself leaning into Shilou ever so slightly. He was grateful that the man had thought of him, and besides, he was happy he'd get to see him more often.

"Thanks again, Shilou. I really do owe you for this one."
