Translation of this mini interview with Near's Japanese voice actor (Noriko Hidaka) from the anime guidebook.

◆ Q1. What was your first impression of your character? I thought that he was a strange guy. ◆ Q2. What did you pay particular attention to when playing your character? The pitch of my voice. ◆ Q3. Is there a part or scene in your acting that you would like people to pay particular attention to? Definitely, the part where Kira is cornered. ◆ Q4. Who is your favorite character in "Death Note"? Matsuda. Everyone else is thinking about all sorts of things behind the scenes, but he's the only one who is honest and comforting. ◆ Q5. What scene left a particularly strong impression on you? I think it's because I'm Near, but it was the scene where I talked to Mello at the SPK HQ. The background was like stained glass and it was really beautiful. ◆ Q6. What is your most memorable experience during the dubbing? Near's voice is my deepest voice. One day during recording, I couldn't get my voice out properly and it came out hoarse, so I had to re-record it many times. I was anxious. ◆ Q7. Please say a few words to the readers of this book. This is N. I look forward to meeting you all again someday.

Is near a cat person?

Ohhh this is such a good question.

On the one hand I would say YES because i'm a cat person I think he would love to have a creature/friend with him and I can totally picture him pampering the hell out of it, letting it sit in his lap/sleep on him constantly, buying it all the latest cat toys, making everyone work quietly when it falls asleep in their workspace, making Gevanni scoop its poop (lmaooo jkjk near would buy one of those fancy litter boxes that scoops the poo for you)....

On the other hand.. cats tend to knock things over. And Near, well... He might not appreciate that 😅

the best death note joke format will forever be L asking light a simple question in which logical answer A might increase the likelihood of light being kira and logical answer B similarly might increase the likelihood of light being kira and after a short internal struggle light comes up with answer Y, which no human being has ever thought of as being a normal response in all of living history
