Valentina had offered to take her out for drinks, and Callie never turned down an opportunity for free drinks. It was a bit odd – considering that the wolves were out for blood with the vampires. Who knew? The woman was being nice, and Callie didn’t want to think to much into it. “Thanks for taking me out. I’ve never been to the den before.” Her grin was wide as the plopped down onto one of the high stools and face Valentina.
“I’ll take a shot of whiskey and a jack and coke.” She smiled at the bartender as he walked off with their orders.
This drive not to think too much about her motives was precisely what Valentina relied on in her approach to the little Erikkson. She had chosen The Den, a place she owned and felt safe within, and one that existed as neutral territory ---no matter who set foot inside, all were on equal ground. In theory, at least. She ordered a glass of wine for herself, her usual, and as the bartender left, the wolf turned to Callie. “Tell me, then ---what do you think of it, so far?”

Why does he want to hug this woman tightly? It feels like it would have been the right thing to do. He stills his hands to his sides, but he feels happy. Happy that she doesn’t smell of illness or pain. Which it would have been Apollo’s way of greeting his sibling; if he had his memories. Apollo always been fiercely loyal to family.
“I wouldn’t know,” he admits. Finally finding his voice to respond. “Erm… the standards. I wouldn’t know if I had any to begin with. Somethin’… happened with my head.” He doesn’t understand why he’s telling a stranger his problems. Normally, this sort of progression would take weeks for him to admit.
Something in the other wolf was... wrong. He seemed different, like perhaps he had forgotten the wolf inside entirely and had become a dog ---kept in a kennel and MUZZLED. At the very least, his explanation brought some clarity to her perceptions. Dark eyes widened in a show of genuine surprise, just for a moment, and she nodded. “I see.” A pause. “Mi hermano... We should go somewhere else, to talk.” Then, with a small, albeit somewhat bitter, laugh, “Somewhere to get you a decent meal.”

There was no question. “Hmmm, I’m in the mood for something…sweet.” She said. Following the wolf queen into her den, Sian immediately did a quick scan of the perimeter. And it was everything she expected it to be. Dripping in luxury and showy baubles, tufted couches that crystal furnishes reflected upon, and a bed large enough hold a decent orgy or two — but as for right now, was only home to a snoozing man scantily covered by silk sheets. A normal person might’ve felt embarrassed and intrusive, but the witch held her ground as she watched the brunette uncork a bottle of wine. “Did you wear him out or is he up for another round?” She teased.
She picked up an extra glass, and filled them both to more than what a restaurant or bar would consider an appropriate serving size. After taking a sip from her own glass, she handed the other to Sian and leaned against the counter, back arched to look over her shoulder at the witch. “Both,” came her answer, with a smirk. “I’ll give him some time to recover, first.” She eyed the other brunette, a smirk on her lips and in her eyes, and wondered what had brought her to her own door. Rather than dancing around the matter, as the two could have deftly done for hours, no doubt, she faced it head on. “Tell me why you’re here, brujita. Surely not just to share a drink.”

“You do know, public drinking is actually illegal?” Aslaug told the person, arms crossed over her shoulders. “Right, I know, 2019 is the absolute worst year and the twenty-first century is an absolute joke.” She added on, chuckling a little. “I’ll let you off with a warning, that all depends on what you’re drinking.”
Valentina had her back turned, until the woman spoke. As she did, the wolf moved to face her, slow and steady like a ceramic dancer in a music box ---and she smiled at the vampire ; the officer ; the INTERRUPTION. “Have a sip,” she offered her opaque travel mug ( filled with a rich, thick red wine ), testing both the waters and her luck. “See for yourself.”

@vcrdugo
It’s not often he walks out of the library to seek out lunch. He’s far too used of the cafeteria food from the facility. It wasn’t until recently he got a taste of wild game. It was during his first shift that had come out of nowhere. (He did get hit by a car, but that’s for another story.) He has a taste for deer and rabbits, but it wasn’t like he can walk into the deli and ask for such a thing.
He’s so fucking hungry…. He looks through the glass at the meats on display. His nose wrinkles in disgust when his overly sensitive nose catches a smell of the processed meats. His wolf and humanity battle for more control of the situation. His wolf is hungry and a demanding animal. His humanity would much rather blend among the crowd…
Without his memories, Apollo doesn’t know how to control the wolf. He’s reduced to a timid human that had been drugged to believe is all he’ll ever be.
She smelled him before she saw him ---a whiff of something old and familiar, flitting through the breeze between city buildings. She followed it, until she saw the unmistakable build of the Mikhailov wolf. The wind was in her favour, letting her follow closer than she would have dared otherwise, until he stepped inside a deli. There, she too followed. For a moment, she only stared at him from a few feet away, and worked to ensure her voice would be steady when it finally came.
“Too many places in this city refuse to accommodate us,” she offered with a shrug, and a smile that looked more like bared teeth at the worker behind the counter. Then she turned to glance at Apollo ---her eyes were softer, when they met his. “Are you so hungry you’ve decided to abandon your standards?”

“I come bearing gifts—” Was the first thing out of Sian’s mouth once the door swung open to Val’s fancy, top-secret apartment. It didn’t take long to find it surprisingly. Just a few threats to burn off her favorite hound’s third leg got her a street address before she knew it. Now it was long after the witching hour, so her trench coat, midnight-black choca Loubous, and a sly smirk came with an agenda. “It’s me. I’m the gift.”
Valentina was not expecting guests ---she wore nothing more than a slip of red silk that was barely longer than a t-shirt, and a man whose name she would shortly forget lay, sleeping like a log, in her California king. She smiled when she opened the door to see Sian standing there, teeth glinting in the dim light of the streetlamp, and she quirked a brow at the witch. “Lucky me,” the wolf answered, and swung the door open further as an unspoken invitation for her to enter, and turned on her heel. “I was just about to pour myself a glass of something. You’ll join?”

Valentina had heard from one of the other workers at The Den that something had upset Kendall, recently ---something to do with a customer. Without knowing what had happened, she was worried not only for Kendall’s wellbeing, but for the reputation of her business. If word got out that people could manhandle her employees, there would only be more of that on the rise. Whatever had happened, the alpha had to see that it didn’t go unpunished, if punishment was deemed necessary. Regardless, she had to hear the truth straight from the wolf’s mouth, so she’d stopped in to Kendall’s room, just before her shift was set to begin.
She had the courtesy to knock first, but she didn’t wait for a response before she let herself in. When the door swung shut, she leaned against it, hands behind her back. “Kendall, hermosa... Tell me how you’re doing.”

Valentina knew the Erikkson siblings ; made a point to do so, in fact. She shared a history with Caleb, and at the very least, knew of the others, though she had yet to meet the youngest of the family in more than brief passing. When she saw the opportunity to strike, she did ---as Callista downed a drink, not her first to the night ( nor at all close to it ) if Val had to guess, she made eye contact and lifted her drink in cheers to the other woman. She sauntered over as if she owned the place, though the eldest Erikkson did, in truth. When she arrived at the vampire’s side, she nodded at the bartender, whose attention she already had. “Another round of whatever the lady’s having, and one for me, too.”

Amelia leaned back into her chair, her smirk growing wider. “Why Valentina, you think so low of me as to have a catch?” Amelia asked, her tone full of amusement. The blonde actually liked the woman that sat in front of her, they were similar in the way the held themselves, and if the witches were to declare their hatred towards the vampires, it made it satisfying that she still held somewhat of a friendship with the alpha siting in front of her. “No catch - your den continues running smoothly, and my vampires stay fed. Win - win situation that everyone walks away happy from.”
Valentina would have liked to believe the vampire, but no matter how much she enjoyed the company of Amelia, these were times of WAR. Nothing was off limits, and backstabbing was expected. “Like I said,” she answered. “I’ll talk to my lawyers.” She paused, tucked the file away in her desk for later, claiming it as hers to do with what she would, now. “I don’t presume my pack would be happy to know the vampires are feeding above them while they indulge. Other than that, yes, I suppose it is a win-win.” Her tone held a note of sarcasm, as if perhaps it wasn’t enough, though she’d made no such decision just yet.

Sian raised an eyebrow slowly as the conversation seemed to turn slightly more serious, as it usually did. While the two were able to keep things light and playful at times, it always came back to business. And that was pertinent—especially after recent events. “I suppose not,” her voice was a slow drawl as she looked at the werewolf with newfound determination. “Can you blame me for hoping otherwise? Things have been…well —- you know this isn’t exactly a courtesy call. And as much as I’d find any excuse to see that face, you have to know–
—We weren’t behind this.”
Val let the smirk slip away gradually, her lips melting into a stern line as Sian spoke. The sternness was not directed at the witch, per se, but was a reaction to the tone of the conversation furter slipping into something darker. She didn’t even react to the compliment, which she would normally jump at. “Weren’t you?” She quirked a brow, the only movement in her entire body, as she stared Sian down like a statue. “Do you know that? That it wasn’t a stray witch, off on their own, ignoring the regent’s orders? ---I don’t know that it wasn’t a wolf.” She paused. “But if it was... they’ll be MANAGED.”

wolfdami:
He let out a chuckle over her answer also in Spanish; Valentina had never failed to treat him with kindness every time they would meet, despite the fact that he had never accepted her invitations to join her pack. She was a hell of a leader and deserved nothing other than her current position, but it just had never been in Damián’s nature to live in a group and follow rules, specially some specific ones werewolves generally lived by. Aside of that, it was always a pleasure to meet her, and the fact that she was his hometown fellow always made him feel double comfortable around the woman. As if he somehow felt closer to home.
“I know you know, I just can’t not mention it.” He smiled sweetly, sliding both hands into the front pockets of his dark jeans, as she watched over him. “For the entertainment at first, but that was before I knew you would be here tonight, reina mía*.” He added, widening the smile a bit, dimples appearing on his cheeks. Then he changed his expression into something with a hint of concern. “I wish I was in town just to see you, but… well, some fucking vampire messed with my horses in Davenport, and I followed them up to here. I hope you will allow me to solve this my way?!”
She might have been kind, but she wouldn’t hesitate to turn it around on a dime if he interfered with her plans, or did something to threaten her pack. Valentina valued herself first, and her pack above anyone else. These were her priorities, and as civil as she would be with a stray wolf, she wouldn’t stand for any disturbances. That was all part of the plan, though ---put on a sickly sweet act with him, and hope he would OBEY without the need for threats.
She narrowed her eyes on him minutely, only for a fraction of a second, before her gaze fell to her hands. She examined her nails, manicured to perfection and painted a deep shade of red. Then she flicked her eyes up to meet his again, and the same honey-coated smile was on her lips, as if it had never slipped. “That depends,” she answered. “What do your methods entail, Damián?” She kicked the chair across from her out from the table, and nodded for him to take a seat. It was not a request. “You know I have a soft spot for you, querido*, but we do things differently here. I can’t just set you loose on the poor chupasangres.*”

theodessawhite:
The authority Valentina held was unquestionable; were she not the alpha of the pack the power she embodied would still be just as prominent. In fact, Odessa would argue that were she not the leader of this pack, it wouldn’t take her long to become it. It didn’t take her long the first time. She admired that level of confidence, care to detail, and action. It made Valentina an easy leader to follow; it was not the person you trusted, but the actions. Her actions betrayed a pattern a pack could trust. Odessa could work easily within that.
“He’s certainly more concerned with our goings on than most, yes.” Odessa sat in one smooth, controlled movement, only unevenly shifting her weight to get comfortable once seated. She rested on hand on each arm of the chair and focused her attention again on Valentina. “I’ll let him know. He needs to trust what he needs to know, he will.” Odessa sighed, “A Grimaldi, but I’m not sure which one. I’m certain I’ve met her before, but not on her own. I was most likely focused on one of her kin rather than her.” Odessa nodded, “She felt…powerful, but not directed. Young.” She leaned back into the chair just slightly, never fully relaxing when talking business, “Youth and power always put me on edge.”
If you asked Valentina herself, she’d say she was the perfect leader. But she knew well enough that there were plenty of things she could do to be better, power be damned. Well, not damned ---that was what she was after, in the end, but she had almost as much desire to bring her supporters to power alongside her. She knew she wasn’t perfect --not in all avenues, anyway-- but she was as close as she could be. Fuck it all if anyone thought differently. Her methods might have been flawed to some, but she got results. That was what was important.
Absently, she waved a hand to dismiss talk of the wolf, content with Odessa’s assessment. As for the witch, she called to mind a young Amber Grimaldi, who she’d spoken to not that long ago, herself. They shared an air of... civility, if nothing else. Valentina was pleasant with her, for the time being, but that could change at the drop of a hat. “I know the one,” she answered with a nod. “Keep your eye on her, if you see her around. I’ll do the same.” There wasn’t much else to be done, at this time, given the treaty between the species. Things were tense, but they always had been. As much as Valentina would have preferred it, she couldn’t go having the girl kidnapped and interrogated on a whim. “If that’s that,” she said, slapping a hand down onto the desk. “I'm starving. Join me?”

Amelia’s face lit up with amusement at the sight of the others interest. The blonde had a thing for deals, she tended to make them for the purpose of allies - and she had the means too. Being the head of the DA was something she took pride in, it allowed her to get to know the city better and all of the dirty secrets that came with it.
Sliding over the folder to the alpha, she sat back in the rather comfortable chair. “Let me summarize it. My vampires may feed off your select choice of girls in the den, In exchange I make anything and everything illegal that takes place in the building - simply go away. The mayor and the police commissioner are both good friends and I do have the police department in my back pocket. The locals will just think of it as a club for the wealthy, and you will be free to do whatever it is you’d like.”
Valentina’s eyes were glued on the vampire as she spoke, her expression neutral. Only when the other finished explaining the offer did she look to the file handed to her, and only then did she let the slightest bit of interest show in the curl of her lips. She took a moment reading over the first page, then shut the folder and slid it to the side, hand placed atop it protectively. “I will, of course, need to have my lawyers read it over...” She paused. “But from what you’ve said so far, I like the sound of it.” Elbows moved to rest atop the desk, and she leaned forwards to rest her chin in her hands. She might have looked like a schoolgirl, if it weren’t for everything else about her. “I only have one question.” Another pause, eyes narrowed at the blonde. “What’s the catch?”

“Waste your time.” Rough timbre broke beneath the weight of a hefty breath, Kai no stranger to the lacking patience of the one woman he might have considered the only family he had left. “You’ve got such a way with words, Val.” The wry smirk that lingered only ever brightly enough to barely cross the threshold of his anger and some semblance of a civil manner bloomed as he cut dark hues at the company she held. “—- You weren’t quick enough.” Harrowed glare that held promise of something beyond the near welcomed manner Valentina held, a much darker — less politely inclined reason for him to leave. “Beat it.”
Her dark eyes flashed to her fellow wolf, a glint of amusement behind them that disappeared when they turned back to the person in their midst. Their words came stammered through nerves, no doubt uneasy in the presence of not one original who happened to be their alpha, but another, known for his quick temper. This quality was exemplified when their visitor failed to get to their point, and Kai shot them down with a glare and a few words. They left, unwilling to protest, and the door was shut behind them. Valentina let out a heavy breath and leaned back in her chair, kicking heeled feet up on her desk now that they were alone. “What would I ever do without you, hm?” The question was rhetorical, knowing well enough she’d be able to move along and do what needed to be done ---but that didn’t mean she’d want to.

“Considering you that you either just scared him shitless or gave him some decent wank material, I’d say he’ll be a minute…maybe less.” She smirked lightly at her wolf companion before leaning forward. “What? No hug, no kiss…it’s like you didn’t even miss me.”
She huffed out a laugh through her nose, almost coming out in a snort that she managed to make seem dignified. “The countdown is on.” She shifted in her seat, oe leg crossing over the other, and watched Sian for a minute before she answered. “I’ve been too busy to miss you, darling. Can you blame me?”
