With the first container added to the base, I made and added a couple more pieces to the foam base so it didn’t look so plain. After which, I cut another support strip and attached it to the base, along with the second container. After that was supposed to have dried, I took the whole piece outside and sprayed 3 coats of silver spray paint over the whole thing. When those coats had dried, I painted over the protruding rivets with two coats of a matte black acrylic paint. Finally, I went over the whole thing with a coat of Plasti-Dip in an effort to increase the durability of the whole thing.

I proceeded to finish cutting the cylindrical tube into my rivets, gluing them to smaller pieces and attaching the pieces across the top and bottom of the containers. After that, I shaped more off-cuts and placed them at the end of each main foam strip to improve the look of them. I then cut a larger foam piece out to attach the containers to, adding some smaller sections and a couple more foam strips to support the containers and prevent them from rolling as the glue dried.

Next I added the two main strips of foam to the containers. After that I began adding smaller details to the tops of the containers, made from regular office pins and leftover cell batteries, with the batteries meant to be the fuel caps and the pins meant to be smaller rivets. Following this, I cut out three foam circles the same dimensions as the bottom of the cylinder and cut those in half. I then glued them around the bottom (as they are meant be the guards against open flames), shaped some off-cuts and positioned them in the gaps between each half circle. Finally I began cutting my protruding rivets, based on similar pieces on the Doom Slayer’s suit in 2020′s Doom Eternal, from a handy thin cylindrical piece provided in my foam order.

The process started with removing the pieces from my first attempt to create the basis. Originally I had used a different brand of glue to start putting pieces onto the containers, which didn’t work how it was supposed to. Due to this, when I attempted to remove the attached piece it tore parts of the paper covering off (as seen in the first two photos). I then used glue to securely attach the screw-off lids to the containers. I then cut off the two main foam pieces I would be adding onto the container.

Things that Require Research/Learning for FMP
The main factor of my FMP work I need to learn is crafting with EVA Foam and template making. The sheet of EVA foam I do have is about half the thickness of the density I now realise I should have ordered, so I may need to add secondary layers to fill it out and increase the durability; at least for the helmet. The template for the helmet will be based on the one shown above, as I’m not willing to spend money on the other over-complicated, less suitable templates I’ve found. It won’t be an exact copy of course, as my design features a bulkier bottom and mouth-guard, along with a aerodynamic fin on top.

FMP Reflective Post (24.3.2020)
With the Covid-19 pandemic in full swing, I definitely have things to reconsider concerning my final major project work. While the quarantine situation hasn’t affected me as much as it has surely affected some of my peers, such as those working on music videos and such, I haven’t been totally unaffected. The flea markets and other such places where I was going to purchase the vintage gear (meant to pair with my own props) have either been called off or closed, so I certainly won’t be doing the photo shoot I would have done if I had the time. Ordering materials will also presumably be difficult. While my previous order containing some of the key materials for the props did arrive, I failed to add certain pieces which may be difficult to come by locally; namely suitable spray paint. Along with this, the military harness in the order was two sizes shorter than what I ordered, so I may struggle to find something suitable for the jetpack to connect to in order for it to be worn. Other than these, I shouldn’t have too much trouble creating the props, although they may not have a suitable finish. Concentration is something I need to focus on if I hope to achieve my new goals.

FMP Result for 16.3.2020
I’m not exactly happy with the amount of work I produced today. I’m definitely spending too much time on the design sheets and I haven’t even produced a final design for either props yet. I’m certain I’m going to need to finish them at home, along with the unfinished theme sheets. Considering the time it’s taken, I’m sure doing more work at home will become pretty common if I hope to finish my work.
