Me: My standards for male love interests in books are pretty high at the moment. I got to admit that.
Author: His hair was black. His eyes were blue and his smirk was really seductive.
Also me: That will do. Sir, weâre married now.

No but when the guy in a book smirks or âgrins widelyâ at his love interest like fuck me and pick me up off the floor because I just swooned

well written badass heroines and incredibly attractive complex villains/anti-heroes that slowly go from enemies to friends to in love are my aesthetic tbh

Well, well, well, what a mix of feelings I have about this book. I started off feeling very salty about Chaol & Celaena and this feeling carried on for a while because I was just refusing to let the C+C ship go. However, I still love Chaol, who is one of my favourite characters and I truly think him and Celaena are a great couple, butttt, I donât think he is right for AelinâŚÂ (plz, donât hate me). I gotta admit, Rowan did grow on me, and not gonna lie I do love fae *cough* Rhysand *cough.* So, yeah, I might be Rowan trash⌠I regret nothing. I am actually going to start talking about the book itself now, because you know this is a review, so I should shut up about Rowan and Rhysand even though⌠nope, no.
Ok, ok, I am talking about the book now. This book is super hard to rate, like the first half even though I enjoyed it was soo slow, seriously it was crawling, then, bam! the second half was insane, I COULD NOT put the book down. I swear I am not kidding, it was absolutely mental. So you know, you can understand my plight when I say at the half way point, I was 100% ready to give this book 4 or something and now⌠what even. Looking at this book as a whole now I have read it, rather than in sections, this book is brilliant and it is definitely needed. How every single character progressed throughout this whole novel, and began coming to terms with things⌠even Rowan who is probs hundreds of years old progressed, overcame and learnt he can still feel things. So, although the pacing isnât great, especially the gaps in between each point of view, this novel had some of my favourite scenes and definitely favourite character progression. Oh, oh, not to mention quotes. Not gonna lie, I did get goosebumps when this happened
âAnd there, beyond the stones, standing between to of those creatures, stood Aelin, a strange mark glowing on her brow. Her hair flowed around her, shorter now and bright like her fire. And her eyes â- though they were red rimmed, the gold in her eyes was a living flame (âŚ) He forgot Gavriel and Lorcan as he bolted for herâ the gold and red and blue flames utterly hers, this heir of fire. Spying him at last, she smiled faintly. A queenâs smile.â
Moreover, you get introduced to soo many new characters such as Manon, The Thirteen and Abraxos. Luca, Emyrs, Malakai, Ren and Murtaugh. I have seen many people dislike Manonâs chapters, at first I wasnât overly fussed but then my interest started pike. I realised Manon is a very complex character and I definitely look forward to seeing more from her and Abraxos who is precious. Not every point of view was great to read, though. Take Dorian, for example, I love Dorian he is another precious cinnamon roll, but his chapters felt like filler, bad. Chaolâs werenât particularly riveting either. All the awesome moments do kinda make up for it though, when Celaena or rather, Aelin stands up to Meave basically humiliating her and frees Rowan from the blood oath, yassss. Dorian unleashing his magic on his father and ultimately sacrificing himself to save Choal, not to mention his steady growth into a king rather than a lonely crown prince. I adored the part where Murtaugh and his riders are telling the world Aelin is back, she can fight with blade or magic and she is done with hiding⌠telling the world to hold on, ahhh, oiswufesoiudqaqwe. Itâs not all happiness though, I was so close to crying reading parts of this, especially when the King puts that collar on Dorian, when Abraxos is still a bait beast, god, I was a mess. Aelin getting that damn tattoo also had me all emotional. What a roller-coaster ride this was.
My final rating after much consideration is going to five stars. The second half was straight up a lot better than the first, but looking at the whole story flow as one, getting rid of the beginning wouldnât allow it have the same emotional responses and impact it had on me. It made me feel for the characters and what they going through at the end more, it made me have more of a emotional response to Celaena over coming her fears of her heritage and embracing her true self, the Queen of Terrasen. I really did grow to love Aelin and Rowanâs friendship too.
â(âŚ)A womanâ a woman was smiling back at her, beautiful for every scar and imperfection and mark of survival, beautiful for the fact that the smile was real, and she felt it kindle the long-slumbering joy in her heart."

This is me right now. I've read the ACOTAR series and I'm currently reading Heir of Fire đ
So, based on my recent posts, I think itâs safe to say that I may be on a teeny tiny Sarah J Maas kick right now. Iâve not finished all the Throne Of Glass books, but Iâm sure that once I do, this tiny kick will get even bigger.
