The Musical Urge.
The musical urge to sit at my instrument and practice dusk through to dawn again and again until I pass out, just to wake hours later with blood stained, raw-skinned fingers, played to the bone, an aching back posed straighter than the lines of the stave i'm supposed to be reading and a pounding headache from the sheets in front of me; only to continue playing until I merge with the dynamics of it all and become my own unique modern day symphony.

Most heartwarming things about every composer ❤️

Mendelssohn: the profound respect he had for others
The way he’s so cordial with strangers and even the people he dislikes
Man always remembers his manners and acts cordial as his family has taught him
And on occasions, his bursts of excitement to the point of switching languages highlights his joy to see who his loves
From the 1830's when he was in his 20s: “his excitement was increased so fearfully … that when the family was assembled … he began to talk incoherently in English.”
“His attachment to Mademoiselle Lind’s genius as a singer was unbounded, as was his desire for her success.” About Mendelssohn’s attitude to his wife
The amount of passion letters he wrote may be destroyed, but how his wife described him spoke it all: “He was the only person who brought fulfilment to my spirit, and almost as soon as I found him I lost him again.” ๐·°(৹˃̵﹏˂̵৹)°·๐ the feels bro

⊱ ────── {⋅. ♪ .⋅} ────── ⊰
Chopin: his love for family
Despite his disrespect and uncalled for criticism towards other composers, he still cares about his homeland
Even in his deathbed, he asked a soprano to sing the Polish national anthem
And he sent his siblings letters everyday when he was out of town
And through his ‘love’ letters to his friend, Tytus, you can tell he was passionate (;
“You don’t like being kissed. Please allow me to do so today. You have to pay for the dirty dream I had about you last night.” Chopin to Tytus — his ‘best friend’
We might never know if he actually meant it or if it was social etiquette back then, but the speculation is still there

Liszt: everything about him
this man truly was an underrated jewel in the classical word
He was generous to the point where he went broke from teaching music free of charge and holding charity concerts all the time
People from his and our time both misunderstand him for being a womaniser, but he was more than that
He never disrespected any female composers and even when he criticised by his contemporaries, he always kept his cool and even complimented some of them
When Chopin criticised him for playing his nocturnes the wrong anr demanded an apology, Liszt still continued to admire him

⊱ ────── {⋅. ♪ .⋅} ────── ⊰
Tchaikovsky: his devotion and mellow kindness
He was sweet and shy. Unlike Chopin.
Having only a few close friends and a tightly-knit family, he was fiercely loyal and to whom he loved.
As a gay man in the conservative 19th century Russia, he could only seek solace with his closest friends — his sister being the closest.
When his sister passed, all he could was to dedicate the entire Nutcracker Ballet to her as a part of his self-expression died with her.
And she meant a lot to him. Not only a part of himself was buried, the fact he loved her so much despite his depression and dissatisfaction towards his life, showed how close he was to his family.
Recommended piece: Pas de Deux (it showed his lonely yearning for love in my interpretation; those whimsical melodies and how he missed both sisterly and romantic love)
⊱ ────── {⋅. ♪ .⋅} ────── ⊰
Beethoven: man pulled 2015 pranks in the 19th century
Even though he scowled and raged throughout his life, he pulled pranks and laughed when his guests fell for it
He hid behind the door and scared his guests whenever they went through it
Laughing at their annoyed faces, he continued to turn annoyance to offence when he made his friends the butt of his jokes
To further gouge tears from his grumpy little face, he made more short songs solely as jokes about them
Besides being a hopeless romantic who made Fur Elise as a way to diss Elise, he wrote lyrics, “we all agree that you are the biggest ass” when joking about his violinist friend
Beethoven was either a great or absolutely horrible friend to have
⊱ ────── {⋅. ♪ .⋅} ────── ⊰
Shostakovich: a genuinely good guy
Every lonely person’s wet dream
Showing up on time, being nice back to everyone who was nice to him alongside living life the normal way despite being a composer, he never raised any aggression tendencies like other composers (take notes Beethoven :/)
Love extended beyond family and friends. He threaded and worded his letters with kindness and manners, especially to those who asked him for advice
Even under his intense stress and anxiety during the Soviet Union’s surveillance, the man loved his family.
And that in itself was impressive.

composers+dabbing
Mendelssohn: does this shamelessly when drunk or overly happy. also sneaks a little dabbing when conducting (you sly fuck)
Fanny: dabs when a success happens. Wilhelm is confused with this strange reoccurring gesture
Berlioz: spams dabbing when high or recently killing
Schumann: never dabs alone, he thinks dabbing is the best when you do with a squad
Clara: dabs out of sight. does this after roasting someone (especially wagner) and after a strenuous performance
Liszt: dabs when performing hard pieces and after getting laid. also dabs to annoy someone
Chopin: he is that someone ^ chopin is a poor victim, but don’t worry, sand is his protector
Tchaikovsky: does this to signal fire to cannons
Wagner: dabs to his music all day this guy is a fucking loser
Brahms: had first learned from the Schumanns. dabs to his fullest for Clara bc Do It for Her™
Paganini: uses dab as a headcount to every person spreading shit rumors
Beethoven: used to be shy and reserved about it. But now he just doesn’t give a fuck anymore, he can’t hear u over the sound of his dabbing
Mozart: also a fucking loser. Spams dabbing so much it hurts. His dab+annoying laugh combo will grate your ears and make u blind
Nannerl: uses dabbing to torment her dad for being a dick. Gets into a dab battle w/ Wolfie back in the days and through their adulthood, telepathically. Even in her letters she dabs. She’s the Queen of Dabbing nothing changes this
Salieri: he gentle, don’t interact him w/ this–this new gen trend nonsense. wolfgaNG NO—
Vivaldi: dabs for every start of a new season
Bach: the grand master of dabbing, performs this gesture in a very precise and extraordinary way as if the angle of his arms are perfectly calculated. Beautiful, just beautiful, his dabs are physical manifestation of his sophiscated and complex music. also he does this after getting laid, may i add

Franz Liszt was truly one of the men ever
- became a lifelong alcoholic to cope with his depression at about 16
- was proud of being Hungarian. Did not speak Hungarian
- Czerny thought young Liszt's playing was a mess (but fortunately saw potential in the kid)
- penned his academic/historical writings with truly extravagant purple prose
- was a Lord Byron fanboy and tried to steal his look
- was a fail dad who was too busy touring and being a sex object to take care of his 3 kids. essentially left them in the care of his relatives for the entirety of their childhood
- sure did look ratty as hell, like he was desperately in want of soap and a hairbrush
- was apparently hot enough to turn the heads of men as well as women. fans basically wanted his gamer boy bath water. Even in his old age some people were down horrendous for the gangly rat man
- wrote a whole book about his genuine appreciation of the Romani and their contributions to Hungarian music, yet also fell into romanticizing them as untamed transcendental musical geniuses
- was mocked by the press for making too much Expressions(TM) while playing the piano
- wrote "vibrato" on a piano score at one point
- alongside his original music, also wrote an impressive amount of what were basically impossible piano covers

Has anyone of you read Serpent and Dove?
I’ve just finished the first book and I’m completely in love.
Little spoiler is coming
There’s that amazing scene in which Reid and Lou are at king’s prom:
That’s how I’ve been imagining that wonderful moment.
She is very beautiful with her long hair tied in an elegant chignon and a stunning white and gold dress covering her body.
He’s in his gold suit: his red hair and icy eye are visible meters away.
They’re confused about their feeling: do they love each other or do they still hate?
They look at each other: they understand it… they’re just falling in love.
From enemies to lovers.
I like imagine them dancing over music along all this process.
They’re going near when Aram Khachaturian’s Masquerade Waltz starts playing. Lou knows the truth: she’s a witch, he’s a which hunter… they should hate each other, they must not fall.
Reid keeps looking at Lou: “You’re beautiful”. She feels butterflies in her stomach. Now there’s a pianist playing Debussy’s Valse Romantique. He gets her closer and puts his hand behind her back: shivers running down all her spine.
They start dancing: Tchaikovsky’s Valse Sentimentale helps them understand their feelings… they’re in trap because they’ve fallen in love.
This is just breathtaking to me. If you wanna listen to these pieces, there’s a playlist I’ve created on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/36bX4Eahd0sZcnmRyQmck1?si=UJKyK7syQoq2YVdpFRvdew

It’s autumn and it’s raining
sky is dark and rain keeps playing its slow but rhythmic music… I don’t like the way thunders ruin this kind of magic, but they remind me of an orchestra: it’s like a Beethoven’s symphony, just like timpani breaking the apparent calm in the 9th.
I love all of this and I’ve been missing it for months.
Welcome back October 🤎

I’ve just finished “The Mirror Visitors”.
Can we just talk about it?
[SPOILER ALERT]
I’m very disappointed…
I’ve found the last book, The Storm of Echoes, very different from the others…
It’s more confusing: sometimes I had to read twice some sentences because all the Eulalia/God/The Other topic was too much chaotic.
To not mention how much Victoria was annoying to me: I haven’t understood her real effective role in the play, sorry… I hated her, if I have to be honest xD
Speaking of characters… Why some of them have been completely abandoned during the narration? Just to mention, Berenilde and Rosaline or Wolf and Blasius. Moreover, to my opinion, there have been added very useless characters, that just created a deep sense of confusion.
I could keep writing for days… but let’s talk about the most stunning issue:
WHY, JUST TELL ME WHY, HAS THORN AND OPHELIA’S STORY BEEN ABANDONED IN SUCH A TERRIBLE WAY?
Am I the only one to think that Dabos has ruined - with such an awful end - an amazing tetralogy? I believe she’d created so high expectations that they would be easily failed in any way…
That’s such a pity because The Mirror Visitor has been one of the most beautiful saga I’ve ever read 💔
What do you think? I’m very curious: do you agree or not? Just tell me your opinion 🤎
