Hello! During the gift exchange, is it all right to request content with self-inserts as part of your gift?

Yes, we allow OC x canon on wishlists! By extension, this also means x reader fics and x viewer art is chill too :) If you do put down a selfship/OC ship, just be sure to provide at least one alternate of canon characters in case your match isn't comfortable creating it.

(Don't worry about references for now; you'll be able to send them in the channel between you and your match once pairings are assigned!)

Signups for the 2025 round will close on Sunday, January 12th at noon (12:00 PM EST). If you want to participate this year, you have just under forty hours to fill out the form!

Instead of a typical secret gift exchange, VALnst artists and writers will be paired up in "matches" of two (maybe more) participants who have similar wishlist preferences. They'll be able to chat with and create gifts for each other, but works must be kept secret until they're revealed on February 14th!

The event will be centered on Valentine's Day and love, but it doesn't have to be inherently romantic; we welcome content of solo characters, platonic pairings/group dynamics, rarepairs, AUs, and more! We're also down for other kinds of creative gifts and mediums, so don't hesitate to send us an ask if you want to create something unconventional <3

The post says you're looking for a writing mod. I don't think I'm a good fit but it piqued my curiosity- what exactly are the responsibilities of a (specific) mod?

"Writing mod" in gift exchange events is always kind of a loose term compared to their more critical role in a zine. In this instance, we're looking for someone who can keep track of updates/progress with participants creating fics and can beta read and give advice as needed! They also have more general responsibilities, such as helping with making pairings (which means they can't be part of the event unless they're needed to fill a spot).

As I (mod Techa) have the capabilities of a writing mod, it's not a role that necessarily needs to be filled by someone else; however, this also means that we're free to take on someone who might not have the experience or full skillset! If you're interested, don't be afraid to reach out :)
