Day 19! Baddha Konasana Bound Angle/Cobbler @heidibyogislp With the amazing Heidi who also gets a huge congratulations for completing her Reiki 1 & 2 training this weekend!!! *Begin seated in Staff Pose (Dandasana) with your legs outstretched straight in front of you. *Bend your knees and bring the soles of your feet together as you let your knees fall out to either side. *Draw your feet in as close to your body as is comfortable. Back off if you feel any pain in your knees. *Press the outer edges of your feet together strongly. The feet may begin to open like a book. You can encourage this with your hands or hold onto your big toes in a yogi toe lock. *Sit up tall with a long spine while keeping your shoulder blades on your back and your shoulders moving away from your ears. Modification? Place padding under your sit bones if your spine wants to round forward when you sit flat on the floor. This is also good to do if you have tight hips and your knees are raised off the floor as a result. You can position a block or other prop under each knee for support if your knees are very far from the floor. Up for a Challenge? Come into a forward bend by tipping your pelvis forward. Make sure you maintain a flat back instead of rounding your spine as you do this. You can place your elbows on your inner thighs and exert gentle pressure to help them open. Day 17! Chaturanga Dandasana Four Limbed Staff Pose With Vanessa! Here's how to! Be sure to read down to how NOT TO!!! From Plank Pose, align your shoulders slightly ahead of your wrists and come onto the balls of your feet. Push back through your heels to engage your quadriceps as you reach your sternum forward, creating a straight, taut line of energy from the crown of your head through your feet. On an inhalation, draw your shoulders and the tops of your thighs up and away from the floor. Pull your lower body up and in, and release your tailbone toward the floor. On an exhalation, bend your elbows and slowly lower your body (keeping it as straight as a plank of wood) until your elbows are at around 90 degrees. Keep your elbows directly over your wrists and drawn in against your sides. Press your hands firmly into the floor. Bring your gaze to the floor, about 6 inches in front of you, and continue to lower until your shoulders are at the same height as your elbows. Continue to reach through the heels, sternum, and crown of your head as you breathe. To come out of the pose, exhale and lower down to your belly or push back up to Plank Pose. Modifications- - Drop both or one knee - Lower chest to block or bolster WORST MODIFICATION! DON'T!! Knees, chest & chin Best advice ever from @jason_crandall -The most common and dangerous mistake made in Chaturanga is lowering the shoulders too far and lifting the bottom too high. Extend your arms into a T position, with your palms facing down; reach out through the fingertips as if your arms were being pulled in opposite directions. Turn your left foot out to 90 degrees, and turn your right foot slightly inward. Lift through your spine, keeping the sides of your torso equally long. Press your right outer foot and heel to the floor as you bend your left knee toward a 90-degree angle with your left thigh parallel to the floor. Adjust your stance to establish a strong foundation. Lean toward your left knee, hinging at the hips to bring your left arm own toward the floor. You may place your left fingertips to the ground or on a block. Move your left armpit close to the outer left knee so your arm and shin are parallel. Reach your right arm up over your right ear, palm facing the floor. Turn your chest toward your raised arm and press the right hip toward the floor to create a straight line from your right ankle to you Turn your head to look past your right thumb. Breathe freely in the pose. Stay for 30 to 60 seconds. Inhale reach up then bring your torso up and straighten the left leg. Switch sides. Rock gently back and forth and side to side. Gradually reduce this swaying to a standstill, with your weight balanced evenly across your feet. Feel the energy draw from your feet up through your core. Lift the top of your sternum straight toward the ceiling. Widen your collarbones. Then roll onto your back and stretch your legs up the wall, with your feet hip-distance apart or whatever distance feels comfortable. Adjust your position by scooting your tailbone toward the wall. It doesn’t need to touch the wall.Find a comfortable position for your arms at your side, with palms turned up; relax your arms and shoulders. Relax your legs against the wall. Release all effort. You might feel your femurs sink into your hip sockets. Feel the spine lengthening. Settle into the pose and breathe for at least 10 minutes. To come out of the pose, bend your knees and roll to your side. Day 9!!! With Arielle!! English: Forward Fold Sanskrit: Uttanasana  How to: Begin in Mountain, or standing. Inhale to sweep the arms up and overhead (ascended mountain).  Exhale to fold forward. *Hinge at the hip crease and lead with the heart.  Traditionally, your palms should be planted on either side of the feet. Or, if that is not in your practice, you can allow the arms to dangle, with the fingertips brushing the floor.  Allow the crown of the head and the upper body to hang heavy. Options: Place hands on blocks in front of you, bringing the mat a little bit closer to you.  Take rag doll arms (opposite elbows) and gently sway side to side. Phalakasana or Kumbhakasana Plank Pose @aratilife shows is how to!! ! -Begin in Tabletop.Inhale, and extend the sternum away from the navel, opening across the chest and coming into a Cow tilt. -Maintaining this intention, exhale, and practice just enough Cat tilt to simultaneously tone the lower belly, losing any trace of a backbend in the lower back. -Remember this combination of Cat/Cow tilts, then move your feet back and straighten your legs. -Lift the tops of the thighs to the ceiling while descending the tailbone to the floor in order to create a slight posterior tilt in the pelvis and become compact at your center. -Maintain tone in the pit of your abdomen while extending your sternum forward and pressing your heels back.
