She was a bad person but I understand why she made the decisions she made and I don’t think she had the resources to make better ones. She did try to make good decisions and sometimes didn’t have a lot of options (or thought she didn’t). (except for Spinel that was just cruel)
I don’t see Rose as a villain, which in the end, I think is the point. I just see cycles of abuse and bad decisions and limited perspectives which result in villainous acts by several people at different points.
Pink’s crimes are in proportion to her power and responsibilities. I don’t like judging her because I know I’ve done bad things, that I’ve been selfish and that I’ve hurt people I love. No, I never did anything as bad as her as far as I know but I’ve never been in her situation or held control over other people as she did (whether she wanted to or not) by being a diamond.
Rose’s character is, to me, amazing writing. She’s “a villain” in the realest way. They don’t make you feel terribly bad for her, but they do show that she didn’t have it easy. They don’t make you feel like she was completely selfish, but they do show that she didn’t really know how to empathize or view things from others’ perspective, even if she wanted to (they showed this as early on in the show as Rose’s first appearances). They show that she can change her mind, learn and grow and fight for other people, but that she’s very limited and makes bad decisions. They show she is manipulative, but without malice. Even what she did to Spinel is a technique I’ve seen parents use on kids to get them to be still or let them rest for a while (which is fine if you don’t do it too often, still give the kid attention, and DONT LEAVE THEM FOR 6000 YEARS).
Every single time I post about Pink Diamond I have people in my replies telling me how “she was human!” “she made mistakes!””she’s not EVIL!” …like chill. Nobody said she was.
All I’m saying is that she was a BAD PERSON up until the last…40 years of her life (this estimate is based on Greg’s and Steven’s ages.) That’s not calling her a villain or calling her evil, no one’s saying it’s black and white because it’s not but OBJECTIVELY speaking Pink consistently made bad choices and didn’t consider how those choices negatively affected others (see: Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst, Spinel, Bismuth, the list goes on.)
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that makes you a BAD PERSON. And finding fault in Pink isn’t excusing the other Diamonds for their tyranny. Of the four, Pink is objectively the least terrible but she still was terrible up until she met Greg and had to be taught to empathize with others.

How Kim Namjoon ISNT as problematic as he was before and how he is growing/owning up to his past actions
(dick sclaimer, I am not and NEVER defending his actions in the past, they are not excusable and I am very sorry if I am offending you)
*at the end of the day I’m not forcing you to accept or support Namjoon, if you don’t want to…. I guess “fuck” with him because of his actions in the past thats totally okay
*also dont feel as if I am biased towards him I’m trying to write this with a open mind, I won’t baby him and be like My POOR BABY AND WENT THRU SO MUCH BLAHDUFU
So lets start off with what Namjoon did for him to be called problematic:
“Talking black as a talent”
Saying the n-word during Shinhwa’s cover (k but why did no one beef shinhwa tho?)
RM said: “When I first saw V and J-Hope, I couldn’t see them because they were too black.. Yeah when the nights get too dark I couldn’t find them.” (this was in English
Just cultural appropriation of black culture, like having dreads (many of my black friends referred to him as a blackboo
Also I don’t personally like the term “trying to act black” but my black friends said he was basically “a wannabe hoodman”.
His background
Overall I feel as if Namjoon had a little phase where he really was lost in identity (i talk about this more don’t attack me). Like I’m not saying LOL HE WAS HAVING A KPOP PHASE, but as he mentions further on in post he had a really closed minded view on hip hop. That rapping only had one style, one culture, one way to act and speak. When Namjoon first started rapping he had the whole dreadlocks thing going on, kind of showing that he believed you had to black in order to rap, overall he was receiving and interpretating a close minded view on hip hop. I definitely don’t think Namjoon has hateful thoughts against black people. But you can still NOT be racist and culturally appropriate. He was just being oblivious and ignorant that his actions are offensive (I explain this more).
How he learned from his mistakes (so basically the proof section of my rant)
*Acknowledging he had a close minded view on hip hop
Namjoon admits his mistakes, in his mixtape interview: in 2015
Q: You shouted, “Westside Till I Die” during ‘If I Ruled The World’.
RM: That’s well… I was really wrong then (laughter). After the album came out and I listened to it, I thought “Ah”. I think I was immersed in the emotions while recording and ended up shouting like that.
Q: What’s the specific reason why you feel you were wrong?
RM: First off, I didn’t even live in the ‘west side’… And even if that song had a G-Funk sound, what I shouted wasn’t the way to respect the west coast hip-hop musicians. I believe there are many meanings inside the words “Westside Till I Die”. Sweat, struggles, pride, etc. Isn’t it a phrase that compressed all these factors of life.
Q: Are you saying that you overlooked the weight and complex undertones that the phrase has within hip-hop?
RM: That’s right. I believe it’s different from words like “Yo!” or “Check It!”. As a result, I was thoughtless.
Q: Are you admitting it to be a mistake?
RM: Further than a mistake, it was a wrong. I have nothing to say.
*honestly this part is really self explanatory. This interview was in 2015 while the song was in 2013. So he was basically justified how in the beginning of his career he was ignorant and oblivious to the real meaning of hip hop. You can definitely see his music grow for the better after this.
*Why I M Y S E L F personally forgave him for this action.
I feel as if this quote doesn’t only signify him saying “west side” when he’s not from the west side, but him acknowledging his mistakes of having a close minded view hip hop IN G E N E R AL and being ignorant of “what hip hop is”. He definitely owned up to his actions “ Further than a mistake, it was a wrong.”
He acknowledges them and admitted to them “ First off, I didn’t even live in the 'west side “
and never repeated them ever since. His music now definitely doesn’t fit the stereotype of rapping nowadays. Might I suggest watching politically woke MV “CHANGE” he did with black rapper WALE.
Respecting black culture or hip hop’s origins (THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF HIS MOST OPEN MINDED MOMENTS THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST REASONS I FORGAVE HIM)
I’ve seen many people think Namjoon mocks black culture but this interview really opened up my eyes to many things and how we can learn from our mistakes
In this interview he did in 2015 >> you can really see how compared to the last interview, he seems more confident with what he is saying, he has no hesitation, and CLEARLY states what he feels about hip hop and black culture.
“There are two things that Warren G told me that I will never be able to forget. The first is, hip-hop is open to any one. Despite what your race is or where you’re from, hip-hop is a type of music that is always ready to give you space for anyone who enjoys hip-hop. So, don’t restrain yourself behind any type of prejudiced thought, and the other one was you’re doing well, so no matter what others say, believe in yourself and do what you want.”
This connects to what I mentioned before of Namjoon having a close minded view on hip hop before and thinking hip hop was associated to one certain race. Now he fully understands that hip hop is for everyone.
“Defining hip-hop is the same as trying to define love. If there are 6 billion people in the world, then there are 6 billion definitions of love, and like that, each definition of hip-hop is different for each person. Of course, it’s possible to give a dictionary definition. In 1970, there was a person called DJ Herc in South Bronx. At a party that he was hosting, he set breaks on a beat and during that break, someone would be rapping, someone would be dancing, and someone else would be doing graffiti… That’s how hip-hop was born, and they call that the 4 elements of hip-hop, but dictionary definitions like these is something anyone knows, but to explain that spirit… In one word, it’s something that can’t be explained. It’s a way that expresses me as well as being a meaning for freedom and rebelling. Because it’s something where people play and have fun with, it can have messages of peace and love placed in it. If you compare it to a Pokemon, it’s like a Ditto. Personally, hip-hop to me is the world. The world that I’m living in… It’s difficult, right? To be honest, it’s still hard for me too.”
He is now owning up to his actions by making his own music about his own life. His own hip hop.
“The culture of shooting guns and doing drugs is not the actual self of hip-hop. It’s just become a by-product that appeared around hip-hop music, it’s not the actual self of hip-hop. Although there’s a certain image that pops up clearly when you think of hip-hop fashion, that’s also becoming something that’s more broad. Look at A$AP Rocky or Kanye West. They don’t wear pants that drag around any more. To understand ‘swag’, you need to understand what kind of meaning ‘making it on your own’ has in hip-hop. Making it on your own is a very cool and important concept in hip-hop. I’ll use Jay-Z as an example. Jay-Z was a drug dealer. He’s someone that sold drugs on the rooftop of a very large stadium called Barclays Center, but he succeeded and bought that building. After buying that building, he dressed up in hip-hop and then went up to the rooftop and looked down at that building. Then they took a picture of that and posted it. After seeing that, everyone died. Kya… Just how cool is that?”
Namjoon acknowledges that there are many stereotypes associated with hip hop and also a “culture” to it. But he should try to do his own thing and not generalize.
Namjoon’s personal apologies
Personally I noticed especially for bighit, when it comes to western fans that seem to have a problem with what BTS is doing they never allow their idols to apologize. I’ve seen Namjoon apologizing facing korean fan based controversies.
The two interviews were already big indicators of how Namjoon grew from a close minded hip hop enthusiast to his own rapper and artist, but I found one v live where he personally talked about his actions as a general. He wasnt as specific but it was short and sweet kinda XD.
Long story short he mentions how he apologizes if his action ever offended anyone and that he was oblivious that what he could say or do could cause others harm (relate to this man) and finally how he needs to hold responsibility and think before he acts and speaks.
Overall I am saying that Namjoon isnt an idol who made the best decisions in his life but he definitely should not be viewed as someone who is evil but at the same time I don’t view him as someone who is a wOKE KING!212 Mistakes are mistakes but its how you own up to them which ultimately says how you are as a person.
He is human after all and instead of degrading him I simply just recognized his growth and willingness to learn and that was enough for me.

Let’s talk about War of Hormone (yes, still)
I have finally congealed my thoughts about it, so here goes for anyone thinking about it still.
At the time the song came out, I was 100% okay with it because the lyrics reflected the very things I often thought about in relation to men. In fact, as a horny teen unimpressed with how my hormones affected me and made me obsess over men, I really liked it.
The video I was not and am still not thrilled by, but that's a different issue I won’t address here since I feel its issues are much more straightforward.
Now, I am a bit uncomfortable with War of Hormone... I mean I stand by my previous thought that gender not need be attached to it, but at the same time, I have to acknowledge that without disclaimer the lyrics can certainly objectify the other gender. I often naturally put the disclaimer (stuff like "that person is but a person! despite their hot looks") in my head so I projected that onto the song. Indeed, there could easily have been that same disclaimer in the minds of the people creating it, but as a released "statement", I have come to conclude that it really should be more explicit about it; otherwise, it's hard to argue against the objectifying nature.
As for it being sexist, the argument for that from my perspective is that women have a history (and a present, too) of being objectified way more than men. Because of this, the song can certainly be viewed as part of systematic sexism while not necessarily being sexist as an isolated song.
In conclusion, I am still on the fence about it. There are aspects I like about the song, but there are problems with it too. My love for it is now nuanced and a bit bitter, and it is likely to remain that way.
As for the converse high lyrics “do not wear converse lows”... I find these to be perfectly okay? The song is a silly song about converse highs lol. I mean, I get that dictating women’s dress is an issue... I guess I can see it as problematic for teenagers trying to fit the perfect “type” of their biases... I guess I also imbued the lyrics with my own understanding of people (if someone is actually petty enough to care about you wearing converse high vs low they have some issues). Okay, maybe that song has issues too.
What sets me more at ease in general with BTS and sexism is the response from BigHit... while the first part had me more upset that they were issuing a non-apology rather than ignoring it even ( “could be perceived as ... regardless of intent” are common phrases used to defer responsibility and apologize without acknowledging the issue) , but the rest of it shows more reflection ( “we will take the criticisms and the points in question into consideration for future works. Through self review and discussion, we’ve learned that we can’t be free of societal prejudices and mistakes, as they are a part of each individual’s growth and experiences, things that are seen and learned in society.” ). The defining moment for me was when there was a clear statement of what was wrong with the lyrics: “we’ve also learned that defining a woman’s position or value in society from a man’s point of view could be wrong”. Coming from a label, such a blatant admission is pretty impressive.
Something that touched me immensely was when I discovered RM is now getting advice from professors... he comprehends that he will not always be able to spot if there is something problematic with his lyrics and he cares enough to get expert advice on it... Honestly, I started crying when I read that.
What worries me more than the lyrics, though, is the denial of responsibility from fans:
“I am a girl - I see nothing wrong with the lyrics” - you do not speak for all women, and as mentioned above, just because something isn’t sexist in isolation does not mean it does not contribute to a wider trend that is harmful. As I said, personally the converse high lyrics are completely fine... but upon reflection, they do form part of a negative societal trend. Even on a personal level, we don’t always know what’s best for us or what affects us (or are unwilling to admit it). Abusees make many excuses for their abusers and often see nothing wrong with their abusers’ actions. (Not that BTS are anything like abusers, just an observation to make a point: just because we can’t see what’s wrong does not mean everything is okay).
“BTS didn’t mean anything by it” - I actually share this perspective. The second part is what worries me: “so it’s alright”. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. A huge part of sexism is embedded in the social culture. People weren’t sexist because they were evil. They weren’t sexist because they were trying to put women down. Back when women started to push for the right to vote, there were women who opposed this vehemently. There were women who were apathetic to it. The truth is that culture informs a large part of our ideals, so we have to be careful when taking part in forming/propagating culture (in us and in others). We will sometimes fail, but saying that BTS should not acknowledge the cultural role they play or the times they’ve come up short, just because they mean well, is ridiculous.
An aside about objectification: If we consider it, k-pop fans often address and act this way to idols - declaring them to be “gifts”, etc, etc.
I don’t think this is completely wrong - after all, most of us have a sexuality burgeoning in us, and especially as female teenagers it can often be denied, in many senses of the word - told it should be repressed explicitly (usually because of religious reasons), told it is less strong or that it is ‘normal’ for it to be weak compared to men’s sexuality (thus thinking it weird/not good when it’s not that weak), etc. So I feel spaces to express our sexuality/desires is great and sorely needed.
On the other hand, the objectification of these idols can be severely harmful to them, and bad for society as a whole. Sasaengs are an extreme example of how bad this objectification (even if it’s not strictly sexual, still objectification) is.
Male idols have it a bit better in terms of systematic objectification (they don’t consistently have, for example, 40 y/o women writing their lyrics or directing their MVs, while the opposite is unfortunately very pervasive for female idols), but in terms of unhealthy fan obsession I’d argue their experience is just as bad (if not worse, given that their fanbases are more demographically skewed by gender).
Many kpop idols are teenagers when they debut, so the sexualization of them, both on the label’s side and the fan side is even more worrisome. Jungkook, for example, has expressed dislike for the overly sexual comments left about him under BTS videos. I don’t think many people in his position would feel comfortable with some of those comments. International comments, in particular, can have this issue as they have to overcome a culture and language barrier. Comments that are hilarious to me can easily be seen as crass and harassing once translated. A lot of the times it is done in good fun from a fan perspective, but to the idols themselves, it is totally different. (This is not necessarily limited to sexualizing comments - remember “Jimin has no jams”? this phrase remains funny to me, but I can never repeat it publicly since it affected Jimin to the point where Namjoon noticed and uploaded a BTS bomb called “Jimin has yes jams”; other common examples are the fandoms’ fixation on k-idols mispronounced words, which is cute to us but for idols straining to learn a foreign language is a deep shame.)
It is important to remember that this online world is pretty much a part of the idols’ workplace, and there are places where it is more acceptable to express desires than others (BTS is probably much less likely to stumble upon a smutty Tumblr about them than they are to read a comment left in their fancafe or under a YouTube video). Here’s a good video discussing the grey lines between sexual expression vs. harassment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIJwyY_JyQU

I’m...I’m sorry, I just this minute realized that there are people out there who have no idea that Heinz Doofenshmirtz is the best fictional father out there. You guys don’t mind if I bombard your entire dashboard with proof right? Excellent.
BONUS: Doofenshmirtz around children he literally just met who wrecked his ‘inator’.
Literally I could go on and on with examples but my computer’s starting to crash from the amount of images.
The point is that Heinz Doofenshmirtz is the greatest fictional father out there and anyone who says otherwise was hit by a Lie-inator.

There is a title of "RM" at work...
Every time I see it I think "RapMon".
So "RM of prestigious town" becomes "RapMon of prestigious town".
I have no idea what it actually means.
I hope I never have to refer to someone with this title.
We all know how that's gonna go down.
